(Vivian’s POV)

The car ride to the party was quiet. Tense.

Kai drove with one hand on the steering wheel, his other resting on the gearshift, looking effortlessly composed in his black tailored suit. Meanwhile, I was a bundle of nerves beside him, fidgeting with the clutch in my lap, trying to control my breathing.

“Relax,” he said without looking at me. “You’re shaking.”

“I’m not shaking,” I lied.

His hand moved to gently cover mine. Warm. Steady. Reassuring.

“Vivian,” he said, voice softer now, “nothing bad will happen. I won’t let it.”

I wanted to believe him. But the knot in my stomach wouldn’t untangle.

When we arrived at the Moonlight Estate, the venue was already glowing with lights and elegance. The driveway was lined with expensive cars, guests in tuxedos and gowns stepping out with practiced poise.
