Chapter 2

Author: Scarlett Flame
When I got home, I took out my wedding dress. The custom design had Caesar's and my names embroidered on it—such a waste, since I'd never get to wear it now.

Looking at the dress felt like staring at eight years of pathetic delusion. Tears suddenly spilled down my cheeks, staining the fabric.

Since it was ruined anyway, I grabbed a pair of scissors and started cutting it into pieces. There was no point keeping something around that would just remind Caesar of our mess when he eventually came home.

Before leaving, I slipped off my ring and left it on the coffee table. I didn't bother leaving a note or explanation and just booked a red-eye flight to Snowcall.

My best friend, Erica Steele, lived there. So, I figured a change of scenery might help clear my head.

Erica was thrilled when I showed up unexpectedly and threw an impromptu party to celebrate my visit. However, someone at the gathering caught me completely off guard.

"Elvis, what are you doing here?"

"I was in the area for business and heard classmates were getting together."

Elvis Fairmont made polite conversation with everyone. His eyes scanned the room before settling on me for a long moment, then slowly looking away.

Erica nudged me. "Don't you think Elvis came here for you?"

I looked up at him through my alcohol-induced haze. He was tall and had a commanding presence, the kind of person who naturally drew attention just by standing there.

I shook my head. "That's impossible. We were just classmates in the Farbourne University prep program. We haven't talked in forever."

Erica was frustrated by my lack of initiative and stood up to get Elvis's attention.

"Your Highness, Miranda's had too much to drink. Could you possibly give her a ride?"

Elvis's gaze landed on me, and I found myself sitting up straighter without thinking about it. I was bracing for rejection when he surprised me by nodding.

"It would be my pleasure," he said.

Erica grinned as she practically pushed me toward Elvis. "Aren't you tired of sleeping with the same man for eight years? Take advantage of tonight. Caesar's running around with other women, so why can't you find someone better than him?"

I grabbed Erica's hand helplessly. "That's Prince Elvis Fairmont we're talking about. How do you know he'd even want to sleep with me?"

Erica gave me a knowing look. "I've dated enough guys to field a football team, and trust me, the way Elvis is looking at you? He wants to devour you."

When we reached my hotel, I politely thanked Elvis. "Thank you for the ride."

As I got out of the car, I noticed the fire in Elvis's eyes and found myself making an impulsive invitation. "Want to come up for a while?"

Elvis agreed without hesitation, and he couldn't even wait until we got out of the elevator before kissing me. I was already tipsy, and his kiss left me breathless. It made me bolder as I wrapped my arms tightly around his solid waist.

"Easy there, sweetheart," he purred.

I looked up at him, my fingers playing with his tie as I pulled him closer. "You've already kissed my lips swollen, and now you want me to take it easy?"

Elvis's expression darkened, and his throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. "You won't get a chance to regret this now, sweetie."

We didn't even make it to the bed the first time. Elvis lifted me up, and my bare legs wrapped around his waist.

My back scraped painfully against the wall, and even when I tried to protest, Elvis pretended not to hear me. Tears welled up in my eyes as I bit down on his shoulder.

"Be gentle… my back hurts…" I cried.

Elvis's warm palm protected my back, but his movements below didn't stop. I couldn't take it anymore and screamed as I climaxed several times before Elvis finally groaned and picked up his pace.

As the waves of pleasure slowly faded from my body, my mind gradually became clearer. At some point, Elvis had carried me to the bed.

I had actually slept with Elvis! He was only the second man I'd ever been with besides Caesar.

Even just the thought of Caesar made tears suddenly spill from my eyes.

Elvis, fresh from his shower, frantically wiped away my tears. "Did I hurt you somewhere? Don't cry. It breaks my heart to see you like this."

I shook my head through my sobs. "I shouldn't have gotten involved with you."

Elvis pulled me into his arms, sliding his arm under my head. "But you already have, sweetie. So let's see this through to the end."

After I finally managed to separate them, I immediately checked Elvis for injuries."Miranda, you saw it yourself! Elvis threw the first punch!" Caesar shouted. When I confirmed that Elvis only had some minor scrapes and nothing serious, I breathed a sigh of relief."Yes, I saw what happened, so I'm apologizing on his behalf. We can call an ambulance if you need one, and we'll cover all your medical bills."My cold tone made Caesar panic."Miranda, he attacked me first! I'm bleeding! Why are you taking his side?"I soothed Elvis, who was clearly regretting his outburst, while responding to Caesar with obvious irritation. "He's my boyfriend. If I don't have his back, am I supposed to have yours?"Caesar reached for my hand, but I stepped back out of his reach. The calm facade he'd been desperately maintaining finally shattered completely. The look in his eyes was heartbreaking, but I felt absolutely nothing.Elvis winced suddenly. "Miranda, my face is killing me."I spun aroun

Seeing Caesar again was completely unexpected. My parents were back home, and I couldn't stay in Snowcall forever. I always knew I'd run into Caesar eventually. However, I never imagined that someone like Caesar, a spoiled rich heir who was used to being worshipped, would actually come looking for me.I was in a great mood that day. I was wearing beautiful makeup and shopping with Elvis. I was holding onto Elvis's arm, laughing as we walked out of the mall, when I suddenly spotted Caesar.I stopped dead in my tracks, and Elvis gently squeezed my hand. Caesar's face was etched with exhaustion he couldn't hide, complete with dark circles and bloodshot eyes.Caesar walked toward us, and Elvis instinctively stepped in front of me.He glared at Elvis with obvious hostility but spoke to me with a gentle voice. "Miranda, I'm here to take you home."His eyes settled on my face with incredible tenderness, just like when we'd first gotten together years ago. I couldn't remember the last

After that heart-to-heart with Erica, something suddenly clicked for me—I couldn't keep punishing myself for Caesar's mistakes.I figured Elvis would be happy to hear from me when I called. I never expected that a privileged prince would have his voice trembling the moment he picked up.His car was parked downstairs, and he stood in the evening breeze with his arms open wide. I smiled and ran straight into his embrace. We kissed right there in public, completely oblivious to everyone around us. Passersby stopped to watch and actually cheered for us.Elvis looked down at me and sighed. "Miranda, if I hadn't heard from you soon, I was about to come find you myself."I regretted everything by the third day. You'd just gotten out of a relationship like that, so it's completely normal not to want to jump into another one. I was too impatient, and I shouldn't have pressured you that way."I was thinking that if keeping things casual for now would make you more comfortable, then we coul

Caesar was picking up the repaired wedding dress. In the first few days after I left, he hadn't gone home, as he wanted to teach me a lesson. But when he finally returned and saw the destroyed dress, he felt like his heart had shattered along with it.Norton was right—every woman dreamed of wearing a wedding dress to marry the man she loved. He'd been planning to propose to me the whole time, and those other women were just distractions. Sure, he'd gotten tired of me sometimes after eight years together. But I was like the air he breathed, and he only realized how essential it was after it was gone.Caesar held the repaired wedding dress, unconsciously smiling. When I came back, he would officially propose to me!He paid and was leaving when his phone suddenly started buzzing. "N

"Miranda!" That was the first time Elvis had ever raised his voice at me, and tears instantly spilled from my eyes.Elvis thought he'd scared me and immediately softened his tone. "Don't cry. I didn't mean to snap at you."He sighed. "Miranda, can you give me some time? I need a few days alone to think."I nodded and watched him leave. Elvis didn't drive away immediately after getting in his car. Instead, he rolled down the window and stared at me with that intense gaze."Miranda, until I give you an answer, you're not allowed to find other men to meet your physical needs."Elvis drove off, and I felt like all the energy had been drained from my body. There was an indescribable ache in my chest, and I finally couldn't hold back anymore. I crouched down and sobbed into my hands. After all these days together, saying I didn't have feelings for Elvis would definitely be a lie. However, I could never again love someone wholeheartedly without any reservations. If Caesar—with all his

As soon as I hung up the phone, Elvis wrapped his arms around me from behind. He bent down and gently pressed his cheek against my hair. It should have been a tender gesture, but I could sense a hint of possessiveness in it."Miranda, you're not going back, right?" he asked.I thought carefully before answering, "I don't have any immediate plans to return, but my family is still there. I'll have to go back eventually."Elvis's arms tightened around me, and his lips brushed against my earlobe. "If you go back, would you get back together with Caesar?"I finally understood what Elvis was worried about. "Of course not, Elvis. I have my pride. After the way he treated me, I'll never forgive him, let alone get back together with him.""But you were with him for eight years. I don't believe he's completely out of your heart." Elvis's voice carried a note of jealousy as he continued holding me tightly.I reached up and touched Elvis's face."When he started taking our relationship for
