The room was silent.

Elena sat on the edge of the hotel bed, knees splayed apart in front of her, elbows pressed into knees, fingers locked in her hair. Her heart pounded like a war drum against the inside of her chest, the last hour flashing in her mind like a nightmare she couldn't awaken from.

Killian stood with his back against the window, his frame tense, bathed in the golden amber light that came through the curtains. His jaw was clenched, the muscle beneath ticking every other second. He'd not said a word since they'd returned. Since Victor's conference soured, since Dante's harsh words sliced into her shattered heart.

"I should have known better," Elena said softly, breaking the silence. "Sophia. The papers. Everything."

Killian did not move. "You wanted to see the best of her."

"I wanted to know she wasn't leading me on. That not everyone in my life was pretending." She swallowed. "But she was."

His eyes finally caught hers in the glass mirror. "We don't have all of our piece

Silence throbbed in the warehouse after Victor's last breath escaped his body. The triumph was meant to taste like release, like the tempest had passed—and instead, it tasted like the eye of something far larger. A warning, and not an end.Elena cradled Dante, still dazed, as Killian stood gazing down at the piece of paper in his hand as if it contained poison."The true enemy is already inside."The words clawed at his instincts, and suddenly a weight bearing down onto his chest. This wasn't over. Not even close."Killian," Elena stood up. "What does that mean?"He didn't respond immediately. His gaze roamed over the destruction—Victor's dead bodies, his battered corpse, the destruction they'd just escaped. Then he saw Dante. The boy—no, the man—who had pleaded Elena to flee from Killian, sitting bound and bruised now from Victor's treachery.Killian curled his fingers tighter around the note. "We have to leave. Now.""But—""Now," he barked, and Elena did not protest. They piled int

Elena awoke to the soft hum of the penthouse alarm system booting up for the day, but Killian's side of the bed was empty. The sheet still held the warmth of his body, but he was gone—like a phantom that had blown through the night and vanished at dawn. She sat up, brushing matted locks of hair away from her face, her muscles aching from the night before. But with that passion was the cold truth. The war hadn't suspended itself for love. It had simply shut in. She shrugged on one of Killian's dress shirts and padded barefoot down the hallway to the control room. The glass walls sparkled in the morning light, and inside, Killian stood before the surveillance monitors, Silas and a visibly shaken Harper on either side of her. Harper didn't get shaken. "—what do you mean the intel was leaked?" Killian's voice was cold steel, sheared thin and sharp. Harper shifted uncomfortably. "We laid the trap exactly as planned. But Victor's men were ready. They attacked the convoy before it ev

Elena strode the length of the room, her feet deep in the floor, worn down by the weight of carrying too many secrets. Liam sat handcuffed to the corner chair, blood seeping from the cut over his eye, but he smiled like a man who still held the advantage.Killian hadn't spoken a word since the storm out. Slipping of the door rang in Elena's mind. She remembered not to go after him at the moment. When Killian was this silent, this still, it meant his thoughts were destroying and constructing themselves at the same time—explosive, friendly, and volatile. She stayed still and turned to Liam."Why?" she asked. He puffed out his chest with pride. "Why not?You were in on it from the beginning," she told him slowly. "From the first day Killian brought me to New York."Liam said nothing."You led me to believe you were one of the men I could trust."He chuckled, a sour note. "That was the plan."Elena's breath hitched. "Victor hired you?""Victor did not hire me. I offered my services."Elen

The bruised twilights of the sky welcomed Elena as she emerged onto the private patio of the Graves estate. Her skin crawled with the cold wind, but that was not compared to the tempest brewing within her chest. The fight with Dante continued to haunt her mind—his words slicing through her like knives, filling her with pain, anger, and that vile feeling of finality."Your selected him… now, when the time is right, don't regret it."She'd stood there, paralyzed, as he'd walked away—her brother, her sole blood, now a specter drenched in vengeance. The door behind her creaked open. She didn't have to turn to know that it was Killian. His body was present in the air like fire—heavy, hot, suffocating in the way only he could do. "He's gone," he breathed. She nodded, her arms folded tightly around herself.Killian moved in. "You all right?""I don't know," she panted. "He stared at me like I meant nothing to him."Killian's jaw clenched. "He made his decision a long time ago.""No," she swu

The flight back to New York was silent, tense. Elena sat by the window, her gaze fixed on the clouds below, as if they held the answers she couldn’t find in her brother’s eyes.Killian sat beside her, his hands loosely folded, but his body told another story—tight shoulders, clenched jaw, the storm behind his eyes barely restrained. The confrontation with Dante hadn’t ended the war.It had only drawn new battle lines. As the jet began its descent, Killian finally broke the silence. “Harrison’s been trying to reach me. Something’s wrong.”Elena turned toward him, eyes narrowing. “Wrong how?”“He didn’t say. Just that it was internal. Someone we trusted.”The words fell heavy between them. After everything with Victor and Dante, betrayal had become a theme in their lives. But this time, it wasn’t an outsider. It was someone inside Graves Enterprises—someone who had been feeding intel, exposing vulnerabilities, and possibly even playing both sides.Elena leaned back against the seat. “It
