REJECTED

-----~[JENNA'S POV]~-----

I step into the large spaced sparsely furnished beautifully edified office with the attendant leading the way. He clears the way after opening the door for me to step in and I do as I am directed. Then he shuts the door behind us. I take my time to look around the wide vast office with space enough to hold at least 20 or more people.

I am immediately struck by its grandeur and beauty. The room is spacious and flooded with natural light, thanks to the large windows that line one wall, offering a stunning view of the city skyline. The walls are a warm cream color, adorned with tasteful pieces of art that reflect the personal style and taste of a pop music art lover.

The centerpiece of the room is an oversized wooden desk, made of the finest cherry wood and polished to a golden high shine. It dominates the space, but not in an overbearing way. It exudes elegance and sophistication, just like the rest of the room. The comfortable leather chair sits behind it, backing us and facing the large window overlooking the city.

On the walls surrounding me are bookshelves, filled with leather-bound books, some of them first editions, a testament to maybe the boss's love of literature and his dedication to lifelong learning. There are also a few framed photographs of some unfamiliar people maybe his family and friends.

The carpet is plush, and my feet sinks into its soft fibers as we walk into the room. There is a comfortable sitting area in one corner, with a plush sofa and a couple of armchairs, perfect for informal meetings or just relaxing with a good book.

I then look ahead of me turning towards whoever it is I will need to talk to concerning this business opportunity. The boss has his back to us as he is facing the large window behind him overlooking the city.

" You have a new applicant sir." The attendant says giving me a very worried look. I sigh and take in a deep breath as the leather chair slowly turns around to face us and my jaw nearly drops.

 Oh my god.

He's bloody cute. I don't really know why that happened or why that's the first thing my mind registers but that's what happened and that is what I am thinking right now.

I am a bit distracted from my mission here and it takes only his soft warm voice to draw me back to Earth.

"What?" My heart pounds uncontrollable in my chest as his beautiful piercing green eyes scans me from up to down. Then he sighs frustratedly and pinches his nose. "Is this some kind of joke Michael?" I feel the terror emanating from the attendant beside me.

"I.... I don't know sir, she just..."

" Just take her away." The boss says and I frown .

What?

" No sir please don't send me away. I am really here to apply for the job." I say immediately with desperation in my voice and he lifts his head peering at me with a raised eyebrow.

He scoffs and shakes his head. "Little girl, you have no idea what you're asking for so just leave." He says and I frown.

" I am not a little girl." I say and he squints his eyes at me.

"So what are you? An old woman?" He asks and I clench my fists. He shakes his head as if frustrated. "I really do not have all the time for this, please take this little girl away from here and bring in the next applicant." He says and I feel Michaels arm hold me.

"We have to go." He says but I snap my arm away from his grip.

"I am not going anywhere until we talk about this." I say and the fellow looks up from the papers he is fumbling with .

His eyebrows fold together as he glares deeply at me. "What the hell do you think we are doing here young lady? This is not some child's play. Just get out and return back to whatever kindergarten you crawled out of."

Now that gets to me and I feel my anger coursing through my veins aching to be released.

"I am much more than what you think so watch your words next time you talk to me." I say and feel the attendant beside me flinch.

The boss slowly turns his green gaze towards me. I expected him to retaliate with extreme rage but instead he surprisingly chuckles. He smirks and drops his pen leaning against his table with his palms laced together.

"You are really something young lady. So what do you think we are doing here that makes you want to throw yourself in without clarifying details?" I scoff.

"Of course I clarified the details. I checked it well in the ad and it said you are giving out 10,000 dollars per month within the range of 3 months for a professional caretaker." I say and he laughs.

"And what do you think the word caretaker means in your own understanding?" He asks and I frown.

"A caretaker is someone who takes care of a person, animal, or property. The duties of a caretaker can vary depending on the situation, but generally involve providing assistance, support, and supervision to those in their care."

He rubs his chin amusedly and chuckles. "Wow. Just wow. I must admit you are really brilliant young lady. But you have to leave. Your attention is absolutely not needed here and trust me you do not want to do what you think you want to do." He says and I frown.

"I don't care whatever you think but I am perfectly sure I can do it." I say and he raises an eyebrow at me.

He suddenly throws his head back and laughs loudly. I frown feeling my blood boil. What the hell is so funny about what I said? He places his fingers against his moustache and examines me for a while with a pretty smile on that silly cute face of his.

"Come forward." He suddenly says and I glance back at Michael who shrugs urging me to go. I take a deep breath feeling my heart palpitation eratically like it's about to explode. I slowly walk towards his table with my fingers laced together in front of me like the little girl I am. I promised myself that I'm going to be bold and act like a woman so he won't think I am weak and incapable of performing any duty but here I am acting like a silly cry baby.

I stand before his table and gaze relentlessly into those probing beautiful green eyes of his. he doesn't take his gaze away from mine and we stare at each other relentlessly for a long period of time till I feel my eyes twitch.

But he still doesn't take his gaze away. I suddenly feel nervous and I feel like I am going to pass out due to the heavy beating of my heart.

What is this? A staring contest??

Then finally he chuckles and looks away . "You are one surprising little lady." He says and arranges a pile of papers on his table. He pushes them to one side creating a free space before him and points towards a seat at the other side of the table.

"Sit." He says and I sit down immediately before him still fiddling with my fingers. He smiles and takes out a paper and a pen still peering at me relentlessly making me want to squirm.

Can't he just stop looking at me even if for a little second? Is he doing that on purpose just to terrify me and make me change my mind?

I clench my fist and maintain my stand gazing back at him wiping out every single ounce of fear within me.

He chuckles and shakes his head. "What's your name?" He asks and I swallow hard.

" Jenna ...... Jenna Laurence." I say and he smiles.

"That's a pretty name." He says and I can't contain the heat creeping up my cheeks.

For hell's sake, what the fuck is wrong with you Jenna? A lot of people have called your name pretty before, why the hell are you blushing just because this stunning man said it?

He chuckles and scribbles on the sheet of paper. He then turns his focus back to me.

" How old are you?" He asks and my heartbeat accelerates once again. I bite my lip nervously feeling my palms get a lot sweaty. He will definitely keep me away if he knows I am below the standard age of a youth.

Shit. I have to think of something quick and fast.

"And do not even think of lying to me because I will know." He suddenly says and I look at him to see him glaring at me with a warning look.

I gulp.
