PHEROMONE BLIND

CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR

The Other Subject

The message remained on Lucas's phone.

He's hiding from you.

For several seconds, Lucas couldn't look away.

"What does that mean?" Eric asked.

Lucas slowly shook his head.

"I don't know."

Hayes reached for the phone.

"Let me see."

Lucas handed it to him.

Hayes examined the number.

"Encrypted."

"Can you trace it?"

"Not immediately."

Arthur's expression had become unusually tense.

"Maybe we shouldn't go after Subject Five."

PHEROMONE BLINDCHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE The corridor remained completely dark after Subject Five collapsed. Lucas could barely see his own hands, let alone the people around him. The only sounds were the hurried breathing of everyone in the corridor and the faint drip of blood hitting the floor. Then, from somewhere in the darkness, the same unfamiliar voice that had been haunting them spoke his name."Lucas..."His heart slammed against his ribs. He knew that voice. It was the same voice that had called him through the unknown number and spoken through the speakers at the facility. Someone had been watching them, following their movements, and somehow that person knew more about Lucas than Lucas knew about himself. Before he could respond, Eric's hand found his in the darkness."Lucas.""I'm here," Eric whispered.Lucas squeezed his fingers tightly, drawing comfort from the warmth of his hand. Whatever was happening, at least Eric was beside him.A gunshot suddenly shattered the silence.

Arthur glanced toward the Genesis files. "We don't know what happened to him after he escaped." Lucas frowned. "Then we find out." Eric looked at Lucas. "You heard the message." "I did." "Someone wants you to stay away from him." Lucas nodded. "Which means Subject Five knows something they don't want me to learn." Eric gave a faint smile. "Exactly." Lucas looked at him. "Then we're going." They left before sunri

PHEROMONE BLIND CHAPTER FIFTY THREE The words remained on the screen. YOU WERE NEVER THE ONLY LUCAS. Nobody spoke. Lucas stared at the message, his mind refusing to accept what his eyes were seeing. Another Lucas? The thought was absurd. Impossible. He slowly turned toward Hayes. "What does that mean?" Hayes didn't answer immediately. He moved closer to the monitor and examined the footage frame by frame. The image of the child version of Lucas remained frozen on the screen. His small face. His mother's hand resting protectively on his shoulder. That same familiar expression Lucas had seen in old photographs of himself. Hayes zoomed in. "That's definitely you." Lucas's stomach tightened. "I know." "No." Hayes shook his head. "I mean the biometric markers match. Facial structure, bone development, everything." Lucas stared at him. "Then what's the message supposed to mean?" Arthur stepped closer. "Maybe it isn't referring to another person." Lucas looked at

The night air was sharp enough to sting, forcing Lucas to pull his jacket tighter around himself. Eric stay

The possibility that she might still be alive had shaken him more deeply than any revelation about Project Genesis.Eric was the first to break the silence."Hayes."Hayes immediately turned toward the laptop."Already checking."He pulled the device closer and began examining the system logs. His fingers moved rapidly across the keyboard while Lucas remained beside him, staring at the photograph on his phone. His mother.Alive.At least, that was what Adrian wanted him to believe."Someone is connected to the laptop," Hayes said.Lucas looked up."What?"Hayes rotated the screen toward them."There's an external connection buried inside the Genesis archive. Eric stayed beside him, never letting go of his hand, while Hayes led the way through the darkness. Behind them, the distant alarms continued to echo through the underground facility, growing fainter with every turn they took, yet never fully disappearing—as if the building itself refused to let them go.They didn't stop until Hayes finally spotted a narrow staircase leading upward, half-collapsed and barely visible in the dim emergency lighting."Here."They hurried up, taking the steps two at a time, slipping once or twice on dust-covered metal.A heavy metal door opened into an abandoned maintenance building several streets away from Northbridge. The hinges screamed in protest, like the structure itself was warning the world they had escaped.Cold night air hit Lucas's face. For several seconds, nobody spoke. Then Haye
