PHEROMONE BLIND

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREE

Lucas stared at Eric.

“What do you mean?”

Eric looked back at the frozen memory archive. “Elena was trying to protect the boy. She knew they wanted to separate us, and she knew they intended to bring us together later.”

“Why would she know about the reunion protocol?”

“I don't know. But she was arguing with them. She didn't want it to happen.”

Hayes turned away from the laptop. “There's something we need to establish first. The recovered memory conf

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIX The notification remained on the screen. ELENA BENNETT — STATUS: AVAILABLE FOR RELEASE. Lucas read the words again, afraid that if he looked away, they would disappear. For eighteen years, he had lived with unanswered questions about his mother. He had searched through hospital records, old photographs, medical reports, and every surviving Genesis document he could find. Each discovery had brought him closer to the truth, but none had given him what he wanted most. Now Adrian Vale was claiming he could give her back. "Don't trust it," Eric said. Lucas looked at him. "What if it's true?" "Then we'll find another way to reach her. But we're not walking into Adrian's hands because he put a message on a screen." Hayes was already examining the notification. "Eric is right. This isn't a normal status update." "What do you mean?" Lucas asked. Hayes opened the message details. Several layers of encrypted information appeared beneath it. "Look at this

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE THE ORIGINAL DIRECTOR HAS BEEN INFORMED. Hayes stared at the warning. "Disconnect it," Eric ordered. "I'm trying." Hayes entered a command, but the terminal refused to respond. The recovered recording disappeared, replaced by a black screen with a small white symbol rotating in the centre. Then another message appeared. REMOTE CONNECTION ESTABLISHED. "Someone has taken control of the archive," Hayes said. "They're inside the system." "Can you shut it down?" Lucas asked. "Not without risking the files we've recovered." "Then save them first." Hayes quickly opened a secondary storage channel. Richard moved closer, watching the screen with growing unease. "This is exactly what happened when I tried to access the old transfer records," he said. "The files disappeared before I could retrieve them." Eric looked at him. "You never mentioned that." "Because I thought it was a security measure. I didn't know someone was still monitoring the system."

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR The words remained on the screen long after Hayes stopped speaking.ORIGINAL DIRECTOR STATUS: ACTIVE.Nobody moved.Lucas stared at the recovered record, trying to understand how a man who had supposedly died eighteen years ago could still have access to Genesis files. Adrian Vale had been declared dead before Asterion collapsed. His name had disappeared from public records, and every surviving document suggested that Project Genesis had ended with him.But the system had just confirmed otherwise."Can you trace the credentials?" Eric asked.Hayes moved closer to the terminal. "I'm trying. The problem is that these aren't ordinary access credentials. They're the original director's authority codes. Whoever used them had access to almost every restricted section of Genesis.""How recently?" Lucas asked.Hayes didn't answer immediately. He opened another window, entered a command, and waited for the results."Three months ago."Richard stepped forward. "Tha

She didn't want it to happen.”Hayes turned away from the laptop. “There's something we need to establish first. The recovered memory confirms that both of you were inside Northbridge as children. It also suggests the separation was deliberate. But we still don't know what happened after you were taken away from that room.”“Can you recover the next fragment?” Eric asked.“The archive is demanding another identification key. I might be able to retrieve it through the original transfer record.”Richard stepped closer. “Then use the transfer record.”Hayes opened the recovered documents and began searching for the reference connecte

Now a system buried inside an abandoned research facility was attempting to bring it back without his permission.“Hayes, shut it down,” Richard said.Hayes was already working. He tried to disconnect the memory archive, but the command was rejected. A second window appeared, displaying a sequence of unfamiliar symbols.“It's locked into the recovery process,” Hayes explained. “I can isolate the archive from the external network, but I can't stop the memory reconstruction without risking damage to the recovered data.”“Then leave the data alone,” Richard insisted. “We don't know what they're trying to recover.”Eric turned toward him. “It's my memory.”“And we don't know what they did to you.”“That's exactl

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONE ORIGINAL MEDICAL REPORT: ACCESS REQUIRES SUBJECT TWO VERIFICATION.Nobody spoke immediately.Eric stared at the message, his expression unreadable. The system had spent years hiding his connection to Genesis, and now it was demanding that he identify himself before revealing what had been done to him.Hayes leaned toward the laptop. “It's requesting a biological verification.”“Can you bypass it?” Eric asked.“I can try, but I don't recommend it. The request is coming directly from the original archive. If I force access, it might trigger another security response.”“Then what happens if I verify myself?”“We don't know. It could unlock the report, or it could give the system permission to access other parts of your profile.”Richard stepped forward. “Don't do it.”Eric looked at him. “You don't get to make that decision for me.”“I'm not trying to control you. I'm trying to keep you safe.”“That's what everyone keeps saying. Protecting me, separating me,
