EMILIA POV

“What was that?” Simon was the first to ask as he turned slowly, scanning the surrounding.

The scream had sounded like a mix of something animalistic and human at the same time, but I couldn’t decipher if it was a scream of fear or not, and that – along with the thick silence that followed the scream – was the part that bothered me most.

“Should we go ahead and look or just be on our way?” I questioned, not sure if I wanted to go ahead if there was potential danger that could meet us along the way and would make us regret ever walking all the way here.

“I think we should keep going. If we come across something, then we fight it.” The leader of Lucas’s soldiers shrugged, walking in front and deciding to take the lead as he looked at me and said, “If any harm comes to you, Alpha Lucas will make sure I’m fed to wild wolves.”
