LOGINDaniella’s POV
I tried to pull my hand back again, but Gareth’s fingers dug deeper into my skin, and he glared down at me like he wanted to scare me into silence.
"You think you can just run to my uncle and cry to him about what happened, but you have no proof, Daniella, and nobody on this campus is going to believe a girl like you over Freya and me," Gareth said, and he shook my arm roughly, leaning so close that I had to turn my head away from him.
"Let go of me right now, Gareth, or I will scream so loud that the whole building will hear me," I yelled, and I shoved my free hand against his chest, but he didn't even budge.
"Scream all you want, because nobody cares about you, and if you try to ruin my life, I will make sure you leave this school in disgrace," Gareth spat out, and he raised his voice, stepping even closer to pin me against the lockers.
Before he could say another word, a heavy hand grabbed Gareth by the back of his shirt, and he was yanked back so hard that he stumbled across the floor, barely keeping his feet under him. Kent was standing right there in the hallway, and his face was full of anger, his silver eyes fixed on Gareth as he stepped between us.
"Take your fucking hands off her," Kent growled, and his voice was so dark that Gareth actually backed up a step, looking surprised to see him.
"Uncle Kent, listen to me, she was the one who—" Gareth started to say, holding his hands up in defense, but Kent didn't even let him finish his sentence.
Kent stepped forward and grabbed Gareth by his jacket, pulling him up until Gareth had to stand on his tiptoes, and Kent raised his fist like he was about to smash his face right in.
"Kent, stop!" I screamed, and I ran forward, grabbing Kent’s arm with both of my hands, pulling back with all the strength I had left in my body. "Please don't hit him, Kent, it's not worth it, and people will see you!"
Kent stayed still for a long second, his breathing heavy, and he glared at Gareth like he wanted to break him into pieces, but when he felt my hands pulling on his arm, he slowly lowered his fist. He shoved Gareth away hard, making him stumble back into the wall.
"If I ever catch you putting your hands on her again, Gareth, I won't care that you are my nephew, and I will destroy you completely," Kent said, and his tone was so cold that even I felt a shiver go down my back.
"You're making a big mistake, uncle, and she is just using you to get out of trouble," Gareth muttered, trying to look tough as he fixed his shirt, but his hands were shaking as he backed down the hallway and quickly ran off toward the main stairs.
Kent didn't look at Gareth as he ran away, and instead, he turned around fast, reaching out to grab my hand gently, checking my wrist where Gareth had held me so tightly.
"Did he hurt you, Daniella?" Kent asked, and his voice was softer now as he looked down at my red skin, his thumb brushing over the mark very carefully.
"I'm okay, Kent, but you shouldn't have done that, because now he is going to go straight to Freya and tell her everything," I said, and I tried to pull my hand back, but Kent held on firm and didn't let me go.
"I don't care about Freya, and I don't care about Gareth," Kent said, and he pulled me along with him, walking down the long corridor toward the back of the faculty building where the private staff rooms were located. "You are coming with me right now, because you are shaking, and I am not leaving you out here where those idiots can harass you."
"Kent, people are going to see us together, and Freya said she is already reporting me to the student board," I pleaded, but I had to walk fast just to keep up with his long steps as he brought me to a door at the end of the hall.
He pulled out his key, unlocked the door quickly, and guided me inside before stepping in behind me, shutting the door and locking it tight so nobody could interrupt us again. The staff room was small and quiet, with just a plain couch and a table in the middle, and Kent immediately walked over to the corner to pour a glass of water, handing it to me.
Chapter 35 Daniella’s Pov My front door slams shut, and the heavy weight of the entire world crashes down on my shoulders all at once. I slide down the wooden wall of the hallway until I am sitting flat on the floor, pulling my knees up against my chest. My mind spins so fast I feel sick. Kent’s words from the gala balcony—I want you, more than the money, more than the company—echo over and over inside my head. He loves me. Or at least, he says he does. Instead of feeling safe and happy, a cold wave of pure terror freezes my blood. A billionaire family like Kent’s does not just let go of their billion-dollar merger because the son falls in love with a poor student on a scholarship. If his grandfather finds out about us—and about our baby—they will crush me like a bug. They will use their lawyers, their power, and their money to tear my life into tiny pieces. "Daniella?" Footsteps echo softly down the hall, and my mother walks into view. She looks down at me, her tired face full
Chapter 34 Kent’s Pov My body moves before my brain can even catch up. Freya takes another step closer to us, her eyes sharp like broken glass, but I immediately step right into the middle of the gap, blocking her view of Daniella completely. I stand tall, my shoulders squared, putting my entire body between Freya and the girl carrying my child. "Kent," Freya says, her voice shaking with sudden, dangerous anger. "What is going on here? Why are you hiding her? What were you two doing out here on this dark balcony?" "It is none of your business, Freya," I snap back. My voice is hard and cold, dropping every single polite mask I usually wear for high-society events. Freya’s jaw drops open in pure shock. She is not used to me speaking to her this way. She glares past my shoulder, trying to look at Daniella, who is standing quietly in the shadows. "None of my business?" Freya repeats, her voice rising in pitch. "We are engaged, Kent! My father’s money is keeping your family's busine
Chapter 33 Daniella’s Pov My breath catches in my throat as I wait for Kent to speak, terrified that his silence means he is angry, or worse, that he regrets ever looking at me. "Say it again," Kent whispers. His voice is very quiet, almost like he is afraid the wind will blow the words away. He looks down at me, his dark eyes wide and fixed on my face. "Tell me again, Daniella." "The baby is yours," I repeat, my voice trembling so hard the words barely come out. "It's yours, Kent. From that night at the penthouse." Kent stays completely still. For a long, painful second, he does not move a single muscle. I watch the shock wash over his face, turning his pale skin even paler as his mind tries to catch up with the truth. Then, a heavy breath rushes out of his lungs. "Mine," he says, testing the word like it is something fragile and precious he has never held before. A frown touches his brow as he looks at me. "Why didn't you tell me sooner, Daniella? Why did you keep this a secre
Chapter 32 Kent’s Pov My legs feel like heavy lead as I walk back through the heavy double doors and step back into the blinding lights of the grand ballroom. The loud music and happy laughter of high-society people sound like a buzzing noise far away in my ears. Daniella’s words echo over and over inside my head, loud and clear, shaking my entire world upside down. I'm pregnant. She said she was pregnant. But she never finished the sentence. She never said who the father was before Freya’s voice interrupted us and she ran away. Yet, as I stand there on the raised stage beside Freya, my mind races a million miles a minute. I count back the days. I think about the rainy night at the penthouse. I think about the way our bodies fit together in the dark, the way we crossed a line we could never uncross. The math hits me like a sudden punch to my chest. Could it be mine? Freya squeezes my arm tightly, flashing a brilliant, fake smile at the crowded room as the photographer’s camera
Chapter 31 Daniella’s Pov The bright lights of the grand ballroom hurt my eyes as I walk through the heavy double doors in my black and white volunteer uniform. I carry a heavy tray filled with glasses of expensive champagne, my hands shaking so badly the glass rims clink against each other. When the head coordinator assigned our student team to help at this high-society gala tonight, I did not know it was Kent’s family event. If I had known, I would have locked myself in my bedroom and never come out. Now, I am trapped right in the middle of it. I keep my head down, staring at the polished marble floor, trying to blend into the background. But then I look up across the crowded room, and my breath catches completely in my throat. Kent is standing near the raised stage. He is wearing a sharp, expensive black tuxedo that fits his tall frame perfectly, making him look like a prince from a tragic story. And standing right beside him, holding tightly onto his arm like she owns him, i
Chapter 29Daniella’s PovMy stomach rolls over the second I open my eyes, and I have to race to the bathroom before I even brush my teeth.Kneeling on the cold tile floor, clutching my stomach while I throw up into the toilet, I feel completely helpless. I am so tired. Every morning is the same sick nightmare, and I know I cannot hide this growing secret for much longer. Soon, my flat stomach will round out, people will start staring, and Gareth will figure out the truth. Worst of all, Kent is starting to care too much. Every time he looks at me with those deep, dark eyes, my heart breaks all over again.By the time I manage to get dressed and walk onto the university campus, my legs feel like heavy stone. The morning air is cold, but my skin feels hot and sweaty. I tell myself that today I will stay far away from Kent’s classroom. I will keep my head down, do my work, and protect both of us from the mess we created.Of course, plans never work out the way you want them to.As I walk
Daniella’s POVMy legs were sore from having stood all day in the lecture hall, so when I relaxed against the wall, it felt like my body was numb. But I endured it because my boyfriend was in the teacher's lounge and I had to wait for him. While waiting, I heard voices coming from in there and I co
