Chapter 44

Daniella’s

Pov

My heart beats so fast it feels like a small bird trapped inside my chest. Moving into Kent’s penthouse feels like walking across a tightrope high above the ground with no safety net below.

"I don't know, Kent," I whisper, looking around my small, messy kitchen. My hands twist nervously together at my waist. "Moving into your home... it feels like crossing a line we can't uncross. What about the university? What if another student sees me carrying boxes into your building? And your family is already furious. If they find out I am living under your roof, they will use it against you."

Kent steps closer, his dark eyes steady and warm. He reaches out, taking my cold fingers in his big, gentle hands.

"Listen to me," Kent says softly, his voice full of absolute patience. "I am not asking you to be my wife tomorrow. I am not locking you in a golden cage, and I am not taking away your choices. This is a temporary move to keep you safe from Gareth and my family's lawyers. You will have your own room, your own space, and complete freedom. If you wake up tomorrow and want to walk out that door, I will not stop you. But please, let me take care of you."

I look up into his face. The fierce, angry billionaire professor is completely gone, replaced by a man who only wants to protect us. The quiet truth in his eyes melts away my last remaining fears.

"Okay," I breathe out, a tiny, nervous smile touching my lips. "I'll stay. Temporarily."

An hour later, I pack a single suitcase of clothes, and Kent drives us across the city to his massive penthouse overlooking the glittering night skyline. Walking through his front door feels completely different this time. It doesn't feel like a scary, forbidden place anymore. It feels quiet. It feels safe.

What happens next completely catches me off guard.

Instead of sitting in uncomfortable silence, the evening turns into a warm, domestic blur. Kent rolls up the sleeves of his crisp white shirt, unties his silk tie, and insists on making dinner together.

"Can you even cook?" I tease him, leaning against the kitchen counter as he rummages through his huge, modern refrigerator.

Kent pauses, looking over his shoulder with a raised eyebrow. "I can read a recipe, Daniella. How hard can pasta be?"

"Famous last words," I laugh, a real, genuine laugh that bubbles up from deep inside my chest.

Ten minutes later, we are arguing playfully over a pot of boiling water and tomato sauce. He tries to add way too much garlic, and I slap his hand away with a wooden spoon, making him grin. It is silly, normal, and completely wonderful. For a few hours, we aren't a stressed-out college student and a disgraced billionaire professor hiding from a broken engagement. We are just two people sharing a kitchen.

While we eat at the marble kitchen island, Kent watches me with an intense, fascinated curiosity. He asks me about my favorite books, what classes I actually enjoy, and what I want to do with my life after graduation. He notices the tiny way I tuck my hair behind my left ear when I'm nervous. He notices how I like my coffee. He pays attention to every little detail, making me feel like I am the most important person in the entire world.

And as I watch him laugh, wiping a speck of red sauce off his cheek, I see a soft, gentle side of the strict billionaire that nobody at the university ever gets to witness. He is kind, thoughtful, and deeply caring.

Sitting across from him in the warm light of the kitchen, a profound realization washes over me.

I am no longer just the confused girl from one rainy, complicated night at the penthouse. I am a part of his life now. Truly a part of it.

By midnight, the heavy excitement of the evening catches up with us. We clean up the kitchen together, and Kent shows me to a comfortable guest room down the hall, making sure I have extra blankets and fresh pillows. I change into a soft oversized t-shirt, brush my teeth, and crawl into the big, warm bed. My body is exhausted, but my mind is strangely peaceful.

Hours later, deep in the middle of the night, a sudden thirst wakes me up.

My throat feels dry, and a dull, familiar wave of midnight nausea rolls over my stomach. I quietly slip out from under the heavy blankets, tiptoeing out of the guest room and down the dark, quiet hallway toward the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

As I walk past the large, open-concept living room, I notice a faint sliver of moonlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

Kent is lying fast asleep on the large gray velvet couch. He must have come out here earlier and drifted off while reading over his legal papers. A heavy chemistry textbook rests open on the floor beside the sofa. He looks peaceful, his dark hair falling across his forehead, but a faint crease of tension still marks his brow even in sleep.

I pause, smiling softly to myself, and walk over to grab a spare blanket from the armchair to toss over his shoulders so he doesn't catch a cold.

As I lean over the couch to drape the soft blanket across his chest, Kent suddenly shifts. His dark eyes flutter open.

For a second, he looks disoriented, blinking against the dark room. Then his gaze locks onto mine, and the tension instantly melts out of his face. A tired, genuine smile spreads across his lips.

"Daniella?" he whispers hoarsely, his voice deep with sleep. "Are you okay? Is the baby kicking?"

"I just came down for some water," I whisper back, shaking my head. "Go back to sleep, Kent. You have an early meeting with your lawyers tomorrow."

Instead of closing his eyes, Kent’s hand moves instantly. Before I can pull away, his warm, heavy palm slides up off the sofa and rests flat, protective, and gentle right over my tiny baby bump beneath my shirt.

I freeze, my breath catching in my throat.

Kent stares up at my stomach, his dark eyes shining with an overwhelming depth of love and fierce devotion in the moonlight. He doesn't say a word out loud to me. Instead, he looks back up into my eyes, his thumb tracing a slow, comforting circle against my waist.

I've got you, his touch promises silently to our unborn child resting safely between us. I will never, ever abandon you.

A warm tear slips down my cheek, but I am smiling. I place my hand right over his, holding him tight in the dark, knowing we are finally safe.

  • PREGNANT FOR MY BOYFRIEND'S UNCLE,MY HOT PROFESSOR   CHAPTER 65

.Chapter SIXTY FiveDaniella’s PovMarcus’s words ring in my head all night: As soon as she’ll let me put a ring on her finger. My hand drifts to the silver jade bracelet on my wrist. I am ready. I don't want a stage, I don't want cameras flashing red dots, and I don't want high-society wives whispering over champagne flutes. I want quiet, private, and real.Next morning, Kent acts weird. He checks his phone twice while making coffee. He taps his screen with a tight, focused thumb, then slips it into his pocket fast when I walk into the kitchen.Old instincts twitch. Is Robert pulling another supply line? Did Dean Holloway reopen the review?I catch myself. I am not living in paranoia mode anymore. I lean against the fridge, sipping black coffee, and watch him zip a small leather folio bag."You're acting like a spy trading secrets in a alley, Vance," I tease, raising an eyebrow.Kent pauses, turning around with a slow, faint smirk touching his mouth. "Just organizing workflow. Put y

My name at the bottom of the dean's footer? Still locked in limbo. Formal department review. Corporate compliance shadow trailing my syllabus like a ghost.I pull open the heavy double doors of the economics department hall. Daniella walks beside me, carrying a fresh leather notebook, looking sharp and clear-eyed.Dean Holloway intercepts us by the faculty mailboxes. Her expression is granite-tight—not hostile, just heavy with institutional gravity."Dr. Vance," Holloway says, looking between us. "Miss Vance is cleared of the extortion conspiracy trace. Her roster stands." She turns her sharp gaze to me. "The board review regarding your faculty standing remains active. We cannot have a direct instructor-student dynamic in upp

Chapter Sixty ThreeDaniella’s PovTears blur my vision, warm and clean, as Kent pulls me up from the porch boards and into a tight, hard embrace that feels like safety carved out of stone."I believe you," I whisper against his shoulder, my voice cracking with honesty. "I don't doubt your heart, Kent. Not anymore."We sit back down on the weathered porch bench, the ocean roaring low in the dark. My fingers touch the silver chain and white jade resting on my wrist. I look up at him, moonlight cutting silver across his sharp jaw."How we started still messes with my head sometimes," I admit quietly, staring at the grain of the wood. "A setup office, a blackmailer in the dark, a cold professor who didn't want messy feelings, and a baby making choices for us before we even knew how to talk."Kent covers my hand with his big, heavy palm. His eyes are dark, deep, and steady. "The start was a wreck, Daniella. I won't lie about that. My grandfather built a cage, Gareth set a trap, and I walk

Chapter Sixty TwoDaniella’s PovMorning light hits the cheap kitchen blinds, and I lay the cold truth out on the table like open blueprints."Zero trusts," I tell Daniella, tracing a finger across a pad of yellow legal paper. "Gone. The family real estate portfolio in the valley—revoked access codes. The sovereign equity line through grandfather’s syndicate—locked out. Dividend distribution rights from the baseline parent trust—terminated."I look up, waiting for her shoulders to drop. Waiting for the realization that she chained herself to a sinking ship.Daniella sits cross-legged on the chair, sipping black coffee, her dark eyes steady and unblinking. "What’s left in your name alone?""My independent stock portfolio from pre-venture advisory advisory fees, two hundred thousand in liquid cash sitting in a clean credit union account, and Vance Advisory Group intellectual property rights," I say, laying out the exact math. "It’s enough to cover payroll, office rent for six months, an

Kent drops his keys on the counter.I don't look at the phone draft yet. I look straight into his tired eyes."Freya called," I say, my voice flat and sharp as a blade.Kent’s shoulders lock. The tiredness on his face turns into hard stone. "What did she say?""She said you sat with Robert. She said there's a paper copy sitting in your briefing folder right now tying my enrollment audit clearance to your wire release." I cross my arms, forcing my legs steady. "Tell me straight, Kent. Did Robert put an exit clause with my name on it?"Kent stares at me for two long seconds. Then he lets out a heavy, ragged breath, running a hand down his face. He walks past the kitchen island, dropping his heavy leather portfolio onto the table with a dull thud. He flips the brass latches, pulls out a single thick sheaf of cream legal paper,

I look at Kent standing tall in his dark jacket, ready to walk into a shadow trap for four million dollars of bridge liquidity. My throat tightens. Every instinct tells me this isn't an investment meeting—it's an ambush wrapped in a wire transfer. Robert wants Kent crawling back to the family tree, humiliated and broke.I open my mouth to warn him, to beg him to skip it, then catch myself.No. I am not playing the frantic, controlling high-society wife who tells him how to breathe.I step across the floor, reaching out to rest my palms flat against his chest, right over his steady, heavy heartbeat. I look straight into his dark eyes."Remember what you promised me, Kent," I say quietly, keeping my voice clear and firm. "You said our relationship would never turn into another corporate deal. Wha
