ARIA POV

"Ding!" The doorbell rang

For a moment, I didn’t move–didn’t blink.

Quinn, on the other hand, was already on his feet.

"I'll get it," he said quickly, a childish eagerness creeping into his voice.

I wasn't ready to witness another dramatic reunion but I guess I had to anyways.

"Of course." I answered.

Two days.

That’s how short it had taken for this moment to arrive. Two days since Quinn had informed me—rather casually—that Zachary and Athena would be visiting. Two days of restless sleep and pretending that my heart didn’t clench every time I remembered him

I stood still, forcing myself to appear composed.

The door swung open.

"Quinn!" Athena’s voice rang out.

She pulled him into a tight embrace, her hands clutching his shoulders like she hadn't seen him since forever.

"My boy," she murmured. "You've lost weight."

Quinn chuckled. "Mum, I just saw you two months ago."

"And that means I can't worry?" she snapped, pulling back to scan him from head to toe. “Are you eating properly?”

"She hasn't changed a bit." I thought. Heavy makeup, always on heals and false nails. Trying to go back to the youthful days she can never be opportuned to go back to.

I swallowed.

Zachary stood just behind her, hands in his pockets, posture relaxed. When his eyes lifted and met mine, time seemed to freeze.

He smiled. Not a polite smile. Not a casual one.

A flirty smile—the same one that had made me an expectant mother.

I looked away immediately, my jaw tightening.

"Don’t."

"Don't look at him, don't react." I warned myself.

I hadn’t realized how much I had missed his presence until it stood right in front of me, breathing the same air.

"Get a grip, Aria." I told myself.

The man I had chosen over my husband.

I stole another glance before I could stop myself.

He looked… simple. No effort. No pretense. Just Zachary. And somehow, that made him more dangerous. More captivating.

"Great genes," I thought bitterly. "My child would definitely inherit his face."

Just not his beastly character.

"Mum," Quinn said warmly. It's so nice to have you here."

Athena smiled wider at that, clearly pleased.

That was my cue to greet.

I stepped forward. "Hi, Mum—"

She cut me off instantly.

"I'm not your mum,"Athena said sharply, her smile vanishing. it's just Athena. Get that straight."

She brushed past me like I wasn’t even there, heels clicking against floor as she entered the house.

I stood frozen, humiliation washed me.

Quinn didn’t say a word.

Not a single one.

I clenched my fists.

Three years.

Three years of marriage, and I had grown accustomed to this treatment. Athena never liked me, never hid it either. And Quinn—sweet, loyal Quinn—never once defended me.

A typical mum’s boy.

"Bring her bags in,"I said to Ian, our chief driver, breaking the silence.

"Yes, ma'am," he replied, quickly moving to comply.

"Take them upstairs." Quinn added.

We all gathered around the dining table soon after. The maids served the food. Chateau

Athena looked around, unimpressed. "A lot has changed about this house."

"This house,"she began, clicking her tongue, "lacks vibes, Quinn."

Quinn frowned slightly. "What about it?"

"The paintings?" he continued,. "Aria worked hard on the color combination."

His eyes didn't move towards me just for once.

Athena waved her hand dismissively. "That's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean?" Quinn asked.

"The house isn’t lively,"she replied , scanning the room as if searching for faults. "It feels… empty."

I resisted the urge to laugh.

"Funny," I thought. "Because that’s exactly how this marriage feels." A marriage where the mother decides what goes on in her son's life.

Zachary cleared his throat, breaking the silence.

"I think the house is lovely," he said calmly. "No flaws. Minimal maids. Clean. Peaceful."

Quinn shot him a warning glare.

One thing about Zachary that amazes me, is the way he uses one word to describe things when with other people, but funny how he could be a chatterbox when I was around.

"No one asked for your opinion," Quinn snapped. "This is a family discussion, and you're not included. Eat in peace."

Zachary leaned back slightly, unfazed, though I noticed the tightening of his jaw yet composed.

Athena smirked.

"And the kids?"she continued speaking with disdain. "No one to say, 'Granny, we missed you.'"

She turned sharply toward Quinn.

"It's high time you divorced and took another wife instead of staying with this barren woman."

The words didn't hit deep, it would have, if she came weeks ago but not any longer, I wasn't who she mirrored me, I was more, an expectant mother and because of people like her I was willing to keep the baby and disappoint her.

"There we go again,"I muttered under my breath.

Athena scoffed. "You sure have got some guts to talk back at me."

"Mum," Quinn said firmly but there was warmth in it not meant to correct or reprimand his mother. "A new wife won’t change anything."

Athena shrugged. "It's the truth. If no one else will tell you, then I will."

"That's enough, Athena," Zachary suddenly said, banging his fist on the table.

"Silence isn't weakness. It's withdrawal from acting foolish." Zachary added. I saw Athena's face change, she tightened the grip on her cutlery.

Fury was the word for it.

That simple action, I felt overwhelmed with love, tears clouded my eyes, happy that someone I love was defending me.

"Break it...looks like you learnt carpentry." I murmured under my breath, Zachary chuckled.

"In whose house, huh?" Quinn stood abruptly, his eyes blazed with anger as he stared at Zachary.

"Sit dow, Quinn." I urged trying to ease the tension.

"As who exactly?" he continued harshly. "My best friend who fucked my mother behind my back, or my new stepfather?"

The room became silent that even slow breathes could be heard

No one spoke. Not Athena. Not Zachary. Not even the maids dared to utter a word.

Aria POVI stared at Zachary,v"She had something that I needed at the moment," he said."Is that all?" I frowned, of course he would brush it off, like he always did.Why did I even place my hopes so high thinking he was going to reveal anything to me?The truth of the matter seems more like a secret between Zachary and Athena, thinking about it, I realized Quinn might not know what that secret his, so asking him was of no use.."Definitely," he replied, calm as ever."Oh really," I shot back, crossing my arms."Lovely Aria, I love you and only you. I didn't marry Athena because of love. I married her because she possessed what others didn't have." He paused, his eyes softening, like he wanted to avoid offending me, "With this... let's put an end to the conversation about Athena."He leaned in and pecked my lips. I bit his bottom lip, hard, enough to push him away.He pulled away, shook his head with a small smile. Then he stood up, walked out of the gym, and left me there alone."Rea

  • PREGNANT FOR MY HUSBAND'S STEPFATHER   Chapter 44

Aria POV I waited for Zachary to speak. His face stayed blank at first, eyes far away. Then he started laughing loud, it irritated me, I clenched my fist hoping I could throw him a punch. This wasn't funny. Not even close to funny. "Zachary, I'm serious," I said. "I'm not here for jokes." "Right... right," he said, he paused, thinking for a long moment, rubbing his neck. "I do feel the same way though," he added. "Quinn will never take the initiative to talk to me. I'm always the one teasing him and getting on his nerves to receive a response." "Exactly," I replied. "Now you get it. He never starts the conversations. It's always you pushing." "Yeah, I see that now," he said. The breath I had been holding in escaped. "This only makes things simple," I told him. "In what way is that?" he asked, leaning forward. "If he really isn't Quinn, I should get the prenup papers quick and have them destroyed before he ever gets to lay his hands on them," I explained. Zachary's eyebrows s

  • PREGNANT FOR MY HUSBAND'S STEPFATHER   Chapter 43

Aria POV I stepped into the gym, Zachary sat on the bench, his shirt wet, definitely with sweat, he was breathing heavily. I walked over, bottle of water in my hand, and held it out to him. Then I sat right beside him. "Hey, my love," he said, taking the bottle and wiping sweat from his forehead with a face towel. He looked stunning, eye catching, the top he wore was glued to his chest, that alone made his abs revealing. "Damn." I scratched the back of my ear, my eyes still glued on him, I couldn't resist him, now I know why he still has numerous ladies fawning over him, despite his cold attitude, Athena was no exception. I smiled a little, bothered and curious at the same time.I jumped straight in. "What's up with your wife?" He lowered the bottle slowly. "What's up with her?" His fingers tightened around the bottle. "Her butt." I let out a small laugh, trying to keep it normal and not overdo things. He rolled his eyes and leaned forward. "She claims she did it for me. Went

  • PREGNANT FOR MY HUSBAND'S STEPFATHER   Chapter 42

Aria I stood there, frozen in place.Quinn. Of all people, it was Quinn who turned around. I had walked in expecting to see Athena, or maybe her friend, Madonna. Not him Shock washed over me, I wanted to step back, but I couldn’t, I had to pretend everything was perfectly fine. I forced my face to stay calm. I acted like I had just arrived, like I didn't hear the conversation at all. The only question in my mind was, Why? Why would he drug Zach? Quinn looked at me closely. His eyes searched my face for any sign that I knew something. I met his gaze. “Did you hear anything?” he asked. I shook my head slowly. “No, I didn’t.” I lied, I feigned ignorance, smiling just a little to convince him. My voice sounded normal, but inside, I was screaming. He stepped closer and held my arms gently. “Let’s go back to the party,” he said. I nodded quickly, too quickly. “Of course, of course.” Athena POV I stepped out of the car, exactly two weeks after Kleopatra's engagement party. My h

  • PREGNANT FOR MY HUSBAND'S STEPFATHER   Chapter 41

Aria POV I needed Kleopatra's help right away. My hands shook as I held the phone to my ear. "I need you to help me out. Distract Athena. Make sure she doesn't get back upstairs.""What the fuck did you just do?" Kleopatra yelled."Just help me out, okay." I pleaded. I ended the call before she could say more. I turned to Zachary. He looked out of this world, his eyes were still bloodshot, "Go into the bathroom and take a bath," I urged him gently. He staggered a little. Worry hit me fast. I stepped close and put my hands on his waist to support him. I helped him toward the bathroom door. I hated seeing him like this.My phone rang again. Kleopatra. "Where exactly are you?" she asked, her tone sharp, annoyance.I lowered my voice and leaned towards Zachary. "Zachary, do you perhaps know where we are?"."Seventh floor, third room by the left," he answered.I called Kleopatra back and told her the details. How did Zachary know that? I had no idea, but I didn't have time to think abou

  • PREGNANT FOR MY HUSBAND'S STEPFATHER   Chapter 40

Aria POVI felt a strong hand wrap around my wrist and pull me into one of the rooms before I could even turn around. The warmth of that touch told me everything. It was Zachary."What the heck are you doing?" I yanked my hand free and stepped back, staring at him."I need you, desperately." His voice came out hoarsely, he blinked slowly, like he was fighting to stay focused, then locked the door."Were you drugged?" I asked, searching his face."No. I just need you." He moved closer."I'm feeling so hot." He grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head in one quick move. His chest rose and fell at intervals. Even without the shirt, he still looked restless, like nothing could cool him down.I knew this wasn’t normal Zachary. The man I knew always kept some control, especially after he learned I was pregnant. He never let himself go too far. But right now, his eyes bored into my body like he couldn’t hold back."Hey, easy with the baby," I said softly, trying to remind
