Evelyn's POV

Do you think he deserves to know about the baby? A voice rang in my head with that question after I studied Nathan's face. Remember what he said to you when he noticed you cried, what he told Rachel about you, and cheated. Remember that he never loved you.

I opened my mouth to tell him about the baby but I listened to that voice instead. “Congratulations, Rachel for doing what I'm not able to do,” then I dragged my gaze to Nathan. “You'll meet me at the court where we registered our marriage tomorrow morning.”

With that I walked away, feeling their gazes on my back, which made my back tickle. I was sure I had shocked them with my declaration. I wasn't going to stand there and act like the fool I used to. They'd rain insults on me and make me feel worthless if I had stood and entertained them, but I was proud of myself for summoning the courage and bravery to walk out after ruining their expectations as they do to mine.

“She didn't make a fuss about it,” I heard Rachel as I turned to a corner to get to my room. I needed to pack my bags since I'd be Evelyn Rose once again tomorrow.

“You told me she wouldn't want you to go. Do you think she's seeing another man?” Rachel seemed so concerned, which I didn't expect from her.

“Do we care?” Nathan answered but I could hear a hint of disappointment in his voice. He didn't sound confident as he always did.

I spoke with Mariam after that and spent the night in my room. The next morning, I got dressed and went to the bank first because I needed to know how much I had in my savings account.

I learned that the money I had was enough to sustain me for a month so I needed to find a job in one month after divorce. I didn't want to get any share from Nathan after the divorce.

“I don't want any share from you Nathan,” I uttered after I read the divorce agreement documents. “Could you change this because I'm not interested in that?”

“What do you mean?” He frowned at me.

“I believe you heard me right, do I still need to explain more?” I could see him grimacing his face, surprised by my response; even I couldn't believe that I could speak that way to him. I'd always wanted to speak with confidence, but I never had the guts to. Doing so now made me feel better about myself.

“I don't think you should decline my generosity, Mrs O'Brien.”

“Attorney Gomez, am I able to do that?” I asked the lawyer because I did not see any point in reasoning with Nathan.

“You do know what you are losing right now?” Nathan asked.

“Are you that surprised to see that I don't need your money?”

He scoffed. “You cannot survive without my money,” he remarked.

“That's how someone who thinks they are the main character sounds. I don't need your money, Mr. O'Brien; please accept it.”

“So it's true,” he grabbed my wrist, “...you have another man.”

I stayed quiet for a moment, looking into his brown eyes. “Why do you look upset about the thought of me having another man?”

“Answer the question!” He almost yelled at me, forgetting that there was a lawyer in front of us.

“Take it easy, Mr O'Brien. Mrs O'Brien, you can decline the share, but once it's signed, you cannot ask for it anymore. Think about your decision before stamping.”

I dragged my hand out of Nathan's hand and faced the lawyer. “I won't regret my decision. In just two hours, Mr O'Brien will be my past, and I'll be known as Miss Rose again,” I smirked at Nathan, who looked stunned by me.

He couldn't say anything about it anymore. After the document was adjusted, I went through it again and saw that the adjustment was made before signing it.

The paper was passed to Nathan and he signed. Attorney Gomez declared our divorce and it became final.

With that, I walked out of the court and approached the road so that I could get a cab but I met Rachel standing in front of Nathan's car, waiting for him..

I ignored her and went to stand by the road. I soon found a cab but before I could open the car door, I felt a tug by my hand and turned around to face the person stopping me.

“Happy now?” He seemed upset.

I glanced at Rachel who was behind him. She was frowning and glaring at me. “I don't recall requesting a divorce, Mr O'Brien.”

“You must have been waiting for this moment so you can be with him.”

I chuckled. I wish his assumption was right because I could see that he didn't want to accept that I might have a man but I could endure seeing him with his secretary and my cousin. “You must have been waiting for this moment so you can be with her,” I pulled my hand from his grip and pointed at Rachel.

Nathan couldn't speak. “When others do the same to you, you can't accept it but you are very good at condemning them as if you aren't the worst.”

I ended it there after we glared at each other for a while. I was about to close the car door after settling in when he stopped me.

“You can never be loved, Evelyn. You are disgusting, ugly, and ill-fated. He'd eventually leave you and you'll come begging. Trust me you'll regret not accepting my generosity,” he threatened.

I responded by closing the car door. I needed to get my things from his house before he got home with his new partner.

I met Mariam at the gate, and we both went to get my belongings, as I'd be living with her for the time being.

I didn't know my former mother-in-law was in the house until she saw me moving my bags. Mariam had reached the cab outside with two of my bags and was waiting for me.

I didn't want to get involved in an unnecessary conversation with the cruel lady, so when I saw her, I decided to ignore her.

“Finally, the witch is leaving. I'm sorry but I cannot wish you the best. I mean, I don't have the power to lift the curse placed upon you,” she tried to hurt me like she used to, but now their words meant nothing to me.

“It must be an achievement to give birth to a man like Nathan,” I didn't have to say much for her to understand.

If she understood, it meant she knew the affairs her son had been having with other women.

“He couldn't get a woman pregnant. Isn't that poor?” when I saw her expression of being pissed. I gave her a salute sarcastically and left the house, the family, and my family for good. I hope I never see or cross paths with them ever again.

It is time I changed my life and lived it to the fullest.

  • Pampered By His Uncle But He Wants Me Back    She drives me crazy

Mateo's POV She drives me crazy almost all the time. I find myself being so concerned about her and wanting to be her savior at all times. I was in my office going through some documents when I recalled how I was polishing her nails yesterday. Remembering that moment only made me crave her presence. I tried to focus on my work but images of her somehow ended up appearing in my head, even if I tried so hard to get it out of my head. Eventually, I left my workplace and located the mall we usually go to for shopping. When I got into my car, I did have second thoughts about going or not. I was indecisive at that moment but I found myself starting the engine and leaving my office premises. Upon reaching the mall, I saw my housemate facing someone, which made me confused for a moment. I thought she came with her daughter but she seemed to be talking to. As I was interested in what she was doing, I walked closer to where she stayed. Fortunately, I showed up at the right time because I

Evelyn's POV “Sh,” I face my daughter with my index finger against my lips, gesturing to her not to say that word. “Don't say that word, baby. It's bad,” I instructed her. “But she calls you bad,” Chloe is persistent. “Why will she do that? You are a good person,” she comes closer and hugs me tightly. “I'll handle it, don't worry,” I respond as I pat her back. Then I face Rachel and then my ex-husband, Nathan. No one knows how my heart is pounding so loud and that's a total relief. I have to summon the courage to talk to them without trembling. “Hi, Rachel,” I fake a smile and turn to Nathan. “Nice to meet you once more and wow! You guys are together,” I am not happy to see them but I have to be polite. I didn't want to share any conversation with them so, “I hope we catch up later. Enjoy your time,” I begin to hold my daughter tight so we can leave the mall. There are many other malls in London to shop at. “How unfortunate though!” Rachel's voice reaches my ear so I turn aroun

Evelyn's POV It shouldn't be a big deal that Mateo won't be coming with me to the mall. That is what I thought before going to sleep last night. It happens suddenly. My daughter enters my room while I am still in bed sleeping. Her birthday is to take place on the 5th of February since that was the day I birthed her. It is Thursday today and we need to visit the mall as promised, which is why she won't be going to school as I had informed her teacher that she won't show up today. Chloe must be so excited about today, that she enters my room at around seven in the morning. She grew up so fast that she is now able to climb my bed, enabling her to disturb me even more. I know it is time to wake up when I hear her tiny girly voice ringing in my head even though my eyes are still closed. “What is it, princess?” I grumble because I'm not ready to leave my bed. “Go to your godfather,” I usually do this when I want some time to myself in mornings like this. “He left,” she says, causing

Evelyn's POV Sometimes, sailing without a map can lead someone to the place they belong and I happen to be one of them. It feels like yesterday when I kissed a stranger. Oh, right, I shouldn't recall that moment. It started when my best friend, Mariam, had a birthday party. I met a man named Mateo, and I hated him for kissing me when he was drunk, but he eventually happened to be a man sent from God to help me after my ex-husband divorced me for my cousin. I never imagined being this famous. He kept calling me his future famous fashion designer, and now his words have become a reality. I am a well-known designer in London, and gradually, the whole of the United Kingdom is coming to know of my existence and designs. Mateo, the man who showed up when I was at my lowest and made me this famous, named our brand after my surname. The bags, shoes, scarves, designs, and more are named Roce. I love how it has been going; the ups and downs made us stronger and capable. Now, I'm a billion

Mateo's POV I brought out the sheet of paper and showed her. “This is a piece of marvelous art, Evelyn, believe me.” “So this is what you have that belongs to me?” She received it. “It's beautiful. Wait, is it because I'm not involved with any famous fashion industry you don't…” “No, Mateo,” she cut me off and I secretly melted because she called my name with that lovely voice of hers. “Why then?” She looked at me as if she was thinking of what to say. Then she went ahead and opened her mouth. “You won't understand.” “Are you scared that we'll fail?” She nodded hesitantly. “That's the worst that could happen and if we do lose, we can start all over again,” I said.“But I don't have money for all that, Mateo,” she finally declared. “And were you thinking you would be the one to take care of the bills?” Her eyes queried me. “No, you are not. What do you think of going to London with me? I was planning to ask you that after asking a doctor if it was okay for a pregnant woman to

  • Pampered By His Uncle But He Wants Me Back    The first lady I studied

Mateo's POV Could Nathan be the reason she never smiled? I know I mentioned that I didn't want to get involved, but I just…yes, I just hated how stressed and unhappy my little designer always looked. When she looked at me as if saying in her mind, ‘It’s that man again,’ I came out of the car and handed her one of the cold cans of Coca-Cola I bought when she was taking a long time in the thrift store. “Is everything okay?” I asked after she collected the drink. It seemed like she was really thirsty. I didn't expect her to receive the drink from me. After drinking it to her satisfaction, she heaved a deep sigh and let her shoulders down. Evelyn was sweating. I could see beads of sweat on her face and neck enlarging and streaming down to her body. I brought my handkerchief to help her but she only glanced at me as if she suspected that I sprayed something poisonous on the hanky. “Thank you,” she referred to the Coca-Cola and was about to walk away, but I didn't let her do that.
