THE loud music, dancing strobe lights, and mixed scents greeted him when he got inside the club. Fernan heaved a deep sigh and sauntered towards the bar counter when he saw Winona waving at him. She was already holding a glass of margarita in one hand.

He sat on the stool beside hers.

“One whiskey on ice, please,” Fernan told the bartender.

“You’re late,” Winona said with pouted lips.

“I had to finish some work at the office before leaving.” The bartender shoved the glass of whiskey in his direction. “Thanks.”

“Did you tell Jan to join us?” Winona propped a hand on her chin.

“Yes.” He took a gulp of his whiskey. “Of course, he said no.”

“Married life changed him. He’s no longer the Jan we all know.” Winona sipped her margarita. “Tell me I’m right, Fernan.” She nudged him to the side.
