ログインAs tempting as the bath was, Annalise was unsure how long Etta would be or if she was even going to be allowed to use it. With sigh of longing, she made her way back through to the bed.
She had just settled back in and adjusted the covers so it appeared like she had been there all along when there was a soft knock on the door. Etta was holding a tray with both her hands. She had managed to open it and was pushing it the rest of the way with her foot. "Pancakes and milk. I didn't know what toppings you liked so I took a selection." Annalise saw several small bowls in a circle on the tray, each filled with different sweet treats. Etta placed the traydown on the bed beside her and from somewhere behind her, produced a can of spray cream. Annalises eyes went wide. She was used to preparing meals and snacks but never for herself. "Go on," Etta encouraged, "While the pancakes are still warm." There was a plate nestled in the middle of all the bowls with a stack of three fluffy pancakes. "I don't think I will be able to eat all this, Etta. There's so much here!" Annalise was practically salivating at the idea. "We're wolves, Anna. This is barely a snack." Etta wondered to herself if her new friend had been denied food. This plate should be an easy eat, especially for an alpha born. Taking a sip of the ice cold milk, Annalise licked her lips as she decided on which bowl to pick from. She settled on strawberries, chocolate chips and a couple squirts of cream. She lifted her fork and knife tentatively, cutting off a small bite and half a strawberry. Popping it in her mouth, Annalise let it sit for a second before slowly starting to chew. Her eyes closed in delight. "Oh my gawd! This is so good..." She spoke mostly to herself, almost forgetting that she wasn't alone. She took another bite, this time with some chocolate chips. Etta chatted away as she ate. What she was studying, her parents, her brother, the boy in on of her classes that she really hoped turned out be her mate. She was still only seventeen so would have to wait until she turned eighteen in a few months. Annalise listened as she ate. Was this what it was like to have a friend? A warm spark ignited in her chest, spreading throughout her body. She clung on to that feeling, knowing all too well that it could be ripped away again at any moment. Etta stopped talking when she noticed that Annalise had set down her cutlery and was sitting with her hands folded oer her stomach, a mix of contentment and sadness on her face. "Are you okay? You've only eaten one of the pancakes." Concern laced her tone as she turned her focus to Annalise. "I'm so full, I couldn't eat another bite. Thank you so much. It's the best thing I've ever tasted." Annalise replied with a satisfied smile. Etta studied her for a moment, then gave a small nod of her head. "So You've heard so much about me and I only know a little about you. A bestie is supposed to know EVERYTHING." Moving the tray over to the desk, Etta waltzed back to the bed, plopping herself down beside Annalise, taking her hand in hers once more. "There's not much to tell, honestly. I mean I haven't been in school for years and you alresdy know about my parents." Annalise bowed her head slightly, " Sorry , I don't really know how to do this?" her free hand gesturing between the two of them. "Let's start off easy." Etta tapped her chin, "Favourite colour?" Annalise smiled a little wider, "Hmm... favourite colour? Green, like the forest at the height of summer. How about you?" "Oh that's easy. Purple. Bright purple. There is a corner of the gardens here that is full of nothing but purple flowers. I will show it to you once you're fully healed." The thought of getting out and seeing the garden filled Annalise with pure joy and reminded her about all the bottles in the bathroom. She wasn't entirely sure how to ask but took a deep breath and opened her mouth. "I would really like to take a bath. I feel so dirty. At my pack there was a stream I was allowed to use and wash my clothes in. Is there somewhere I can do that here?" Even with all the kindness she had been shown, Annalise was wary. Kindness could be used as a weapon to trick her. "A stream?! Anna, there's a bathroom right there. Why would you..." Etta trailed off, realisation dawning on her. "Ofcourse you can. Everything here is yours to use freely." She spoke softly and squeezed Annalises hand reassuringly.Anna's POV We made our way down a corridor, light and welcoming, paintings spaced along the walls. I wanted to stop and study each one but Etta was still holding my hand, urging me to ollow. At he end of the hall, Etta turned to the left which opened out onto a sweeping staircase with a pale wooden bannister and a dark green runner down the centre. Etta continued to pull me along, chatting happily but I didn't hear a word of it. The closer we got to her family, the more nervous I became. On the last step, I stopped dead. The abruptness of it yanked Etta backwards. " Woah! What the hell Anna?!" It was almost comical watching Etta's left foot lifting into the air, her arms flailing, releasing my hand in the process. "Sorry! I just...I just don't know if I can do this." I started tapping my thumb and forefinger together, a habit I picked up to control my anxieties. "Let's just go say hi. If you want to go back to your room at anytime you can, no one will stop you." Etta caug
"Let me run a bath for you. You can relax and take all the time you want. I'll go find some clothes and leave them on the bed for you." Etta pushed up from the bed and headed towards the bathroom. "Thank you, Etta. No one has been this nice to me in year. I still can't believe you are real." Annalise said shyly. "You'd better believe it! Just wait until you meet the rest of the family. They are going to love you." Her bright, sing song voice was slightly muffled under the noise of the running water. A short while later, Etta reappeared. "All ready. I wasn't sure what kind of bubblebath you would like so I picked one that matches your scent." She smiled and made her way to leave. "See you later, Bestie." She sang as she left. Annalise limped to the bathroom. The bubbles were almost to the lip of the tub, so invting. She gingerly stripped off the pyjamas and unwound the bandage from her knee. Lifting her bad leg first, she balanced on her song one. The heat of the water instan

Etta was stunned. This girl who had suffered unknown horrors was an Alphas daughter? 'How could her pack allow this to happen?' she thought to herself, shuddering slightly. "Did you not have any other family? Anyone to take you in and care for you?" Etta asked, fearful of what she might hear next. "No. My aunt and uncle on my fathers side live with another pack across country and my mothers brother was also killed during the rebellion. Once Beta James became Alpha he took me in. He was my fathers most trusted advisor and friend, I had no reason to doubt that he would care for me." Annalise closed her eyes as she thought back to her childhood. "At first he was kind, telling me how missed my parents were. Then he began to change...he would ask me to help in the kitchens. I didn't mind, I loved the smells and my mother had started to teach me to bake." A watery smile appeared on her face as she remembered her younger self with flour on her nose, her mother laughing and the kitchen
Annalise's head was throbbing. The dream she had had been intense. Slowly her eyes flickered open. She was in a bed. Her fingers felt along the comfortable mattress but even with her arms stretched out fully she could not feel the edges. Confused, Annalise couldn't remember the last time she had been in a bed this luxurious. Thinking back she realised it had probably been when her parents were still alive. Slowly taking in her surroundings, she saw she was in a good sized room. It was simply decorated in neutral tones, the walls were a pale, warm grey and all the urniture was white. 'Where am i? I don't remember a room like this in the packhouse.' Annalise had cleaned every inch of that huge house and there was definitely nowhere as fresh or welcoming as this. She tried to sit up and found that she was stiff and sore. The small movement caused her head to spin and made her feel nauseous. Annalise looked down and saw she was wearing clothes that were strange to her. The
The wind howled amongst the sparsely spaced trees. The only other sound that could be heard was the faint, soft crunching of dried leaves and twigs caused by small light feet picking their way through the dense undergrowth of the pitch-black forest. Annalise had used the cover of darkness to escape her cruel tormentors- people she had considered friends and kin. She had watched the habits of many of her pack discreetly for months and suffered at their hands before finding a small window of opportunity to flee the territory. Once the sun began to rise, Annalise knew that her absence would be noticed and that the hunt to bring her back would start. The thought of being hunted down and the punishments she would receive for running away spurred Annalise on, her breath quickened, showing in short little puffs of air. The tatty hood of the cloak she had managed to salvage and sew together again lightly billowed around her shadowed face. ‘How far have I travelled?’, Annalise wondered to
