Chapter 4

ผู้เขียน: Mango Porridge
Just that simple sentence was enough to get under Emily's skin.

I heard from mutual friends that she'd been suspicious and paranoid but never dared question Derek directly.

As such, she had secretly checked his phone, only to find out that he had been following my social media account for ages.

Years ago, he had even been my top supporter.

After she discovered that account, she started picking fights with Derek every day, but Linda's slight frown made her fall back in line.

After my friend told me about this, she asked, "Gabriella, be honest with me. You've never introduced Caleb to anyone. With how much you're hiding him, could he actually be—"

I quickly cut her off, "The one I'm marrying has always been Caleb."

Seeing how serious I looked, she didn't press further.

I figured that from that point on, I wouldn't cross paths with them again. But on my wedding day, I discovered that we had even chosen the same hotel.

When the guests noticed that the grooms on both welcome signs looked identical, they began whispering and exchanging puzzled glances.

When I arrived, I saw Mom knocking over my welcome signs. She tore my wedding photos to pieces and slashed big crosses across the faces. She must have really hated me.

"Gabriella, why did I give birth to a monster like you? If you still want to call me your mother, then get out of my face right now!"

She expected me to break down in tears, but her words could no longer hurt me.

I calmly had my assistant call the police.

"Oh, so you've grown bold enough to ignore your own mother! Fine. Make a scene then. I'd like to see how you'll handle the fallout."

The scene was so embarrassing that the Lehman family was upset.

So even though Emily had only half her makeup done, she had to step out to try to stop Mom. "Don't get cocky, Gabriella. As long as Mrs. Lehman is here, someone like you could never join the Lehman family.

"You're the one who'll be embarrassed when you don't have a groom on your big day."

What a fool. Did she really think I was fighting with her over some trash like the Lehman family? She was probably just trying to intimidate me.

Emily quickly finished her makeup and stood at the hotel entrance to greet guests.

My assistant told me that many unsuspecting guests had been led into the Lehman family's banquet hall.

"Forget about them. They'll come back once they realize they're at the wrong place. There's only one guest that I have to welcome personally."

Just then, an understated Rolls-Royce rolled up outside. Before I could get close, Emily lifted her dress and ran toward it, only to be blocked three feet away by the staff of the approaching man.

Emily stood there awkwardly. "Mr. Walton, you probably don't remember, but we met at the Urban Young Entrepreneurs Association Conference before."

Seeing the lack of reaction, she added, "It's fine. I'm the daughter-in-law of the Lehman family."

When Adam Walton, an official, remained silent, Emily grew anxious. "Mr. Walton, I'm talking about the Lehman family from Crowville! In all of Wraydale, who else could get you to come besides the Lehman family?"

Out of politeness, he finally spoke. "The Lehman family? I've never heard of them."

Having said that, he ignored her and walked straight toward me. "Gabby, congratulations on your wedding! I'm sorry for being late."

"You couldn't have come at a better time."

Watching Adam head toward the way, the sharp-eyed guests realized they had been led to the wrong wedding. "I was wondering why the Ingram family was using such a small banquet hall.

"The Ingram family would do nothing less than book all ten of the luxurious top-floor banquet halls!"

Even the Lehman family guests began heading upstairs, taking advantage of the confusion.

Within half an hour, only Emily's bridesmaids were left at her wedding venue.

Emily was furious, but there was nothing she could do. "Gabriella, what did you do to get them all to play along?

"Mark my words, once the Lehman family arrives and everyone realizes what's happening, they won't spare you."

At that moment, a stretched Bentley pulled up outside.

The instant Emily saw who got out, she ran toward him, letting all her frustrations spill out in sobs.

"Darling, you must stand up for me!"

However, the man merely sidestepped her, letting her collapse at his feet. Looking down at her, he asked coldly, "And you are?"

I heard that before her sentencing, Emily had desperately begged Mom to save her. However, not only did Mom ignore her pleas, but she also kicked Emily when she was down by seizing all of Emily's bank accounts.Without financial support, Emily couldn't even hire a defense lawyer. During her five-year sentence, all she could do was write daily letters, wishing Mom would grow old with no one by her side.Mom thought that by doing this, she could win back her real daughter. She began contacting me frequently, bragging about her "heroics"."Gabby, I've avenged you! I only made that many mistakes back then because Emily kept sowing discord. Come home when you have time, okay?"I would always answer her calls, but instead of responding, I recorded everything she had said and sent it straight to Emily. After testing the waters for a while, Mom realized that I wasn't pushing back. As such, she brazenly started using our relationship to make a comeback and return to the big screen. And o

As the banquet hall doors swung open, blazing spotlights fell on Emily, making her shine like an angel descending from the heavens. At the far end of the stage, Caleb stood in a white suit, gently extending his hand to her.Everything seemed to be going perfectly. Unable to contain her excitement, Emily whispered to the camera, "Do you see this, Gabriella? Your assistant, your fans, even your husband doesn't notice anything amiss."Everything you've ever been proud of means nothing!"I clenched my fists tight, forcing myself to stay clear-headed.I was sure that Caleb would notice eventually. Until then, I couldn't afford to black out.Soon, Emily reached the center of the stage. She stopped under the crystal floral arch. As rehearsed, this was the spot where the bride was supposed to take photos with all the fans.Out of the blue, a glass flew onto the stage, landing right at Emily's feet.Flying shards grazed her foot, leaving a bloody streak. Then, another glass was thrown

To make up for past regrets, on our first wedding anniversary, Caleb rented an entire private island and held another wedding for me.He even specially invited 100 of my fans to attend, flying them there and back on chartered planes.Because of that, he earned the title of "the internet's best brother-in-law".In high spirits, I decided to play along and held one-on-one meet-and-greets with my fans. Everything went smoothly until the 100th fan walked in.She was wearing sunglasses and covered from head to toe, which sent a chill down my spine.Unlike the other fans, the moment she sat down, she called me by my name. "Gabriella."Her voice sounded oddly familiar. Staying vigilant, I forced a professional smile. "Hi there. What would you like to talk about?""Can you share how someone could achieve everything you have now?"I froze slightly. Very few fans ever asked me about entrepreneurship.Seeing how serious she looked, I took out my phone and pulled up a few project manageme

As the crimes were indisputable, more than ten Lehman family members were convicted, with Jack and Linda receiving 30 years for their particularly grave offenses. They would probably have to spend the rest of their lives behind bars. The once-glorious Lehman family was wiped out overnight. And Emily, who had gone around claiming to be a wealthy family's daughter-in-law, became the laughingstock of Wraydale.Mom had tried several times to contact me, but after finding out she had been blocked on everything, she realized that she didn't know anything about her own daughter's address, work, or friends.Hence, Caleb and I enjoyed a rare, peaceful honeymoon together. It wasn't until I returned to work and my livestream was suddenly flooded with trolls that I realized that Mom and Emily had been waiting for the perfect moment to start a livestream to garner pity.In just two hours, they had painted me as a cold, heartless woman who, after marrying into wealth, looked down on the family

Even with their hands in handcuffs, Jack and Linda remained in denial of the fact that they were exposed."That fortune teller was right all along! Because of that cursed mole, you've ruined my family! You jinx! I should never have been soft! I should have watched you take your last breath!"Upon seeing that same hateful gaze and hearing those same vicious words, I was reminded of Mom. All the grievances and indignation inside me overflowed right then.I positioned Caleb behind me protectively. "Enough. Stop blaming everything on a mole! You know exactly what you've done. Your downfall was only a matter of time!"If that weren't the case, you wouldn't have had trouble telling whether it was Derek or Caleb by your side just because of a little concealer!"At that, Linda went limp, then broke down entirely. As they were taken away, Linda kept muttering, "Impossible…"The wedding had turned into a complete farce. Refusing to give up, Mom turned to Adam, who was beside me. As if hol

Emily sat on the floor, stunned. "Derek, you don't recognize me? We grew up together. We're childhood sweethearts. How could you possibly…"She clung to Caleb's sleeve in desperation. "Please don't scare me! I get it now. Was it this bitch who seduced you? Or does she have some leverage over you? Tell me! We can deal with it together!"But Caleb's frown only deepened. He maintained his gentlemanly composure as he said, "Miss, please compose yourself. My name is Caleb Ingram. I am Gabriella's husband."The moment she met his cold, impersonal eyes, Emily fell apart. "That's not possible."Refusing to accept it, she pulled out her phone. Whether it was messages or calls, Derek was completely unreachable.Suddenly, as if she had remembered something, her eyes lit up. "Derek, your parents will be here soon. You can't possibly upset them, can you?"She pitifully crawled to his feet, trying to stir some compassion in him. "No matter how much you fool around outside, as long as you come
