Chapter 10 Came to Give You a Gift

When Jenna awoke, her head, neck, and arms were all wrapped in bandages. Even a slight movement made her suck a breath of cold air.

She had been detained at the detention center.

A police officer who came over to deliver the food said to her, “You are suspected of attempting to murder the CEO of Seabright Group, Shawn Sadler. Be obedient and stay put for your court summons!”

She really hated herself for not keeping a close enough eye on that car and letting Shawn escape!

Jenna did not want to sit here waiting for her fate, so she called a police officer over. “I want to make a call to hire a lawyer in my defense.”

The police officer just scoffed and ignored her.

Later that night, the police officer reappeared. This time, he was leading two women to the detention cell and proceeding to uncuff them.

Right after they entered, they glanced at her with unfriendly gazes, and she shrunk back in vigilance.

She managed to hold out half of the night until she could not resist it anymore and fell asleep.

It was then that someone viciously pinched her wounded arm. Jenna opened her eyes in pain, only to find that her mouth had been sealed. No matter what she did, she could not make a sound.

“Don’t blame us. We just take the money and do things for people!” the woman said as she slapped her, smiling savagely. “She said we could torture you in any way we wanted so long as we left a breath in you!”

Shawn wanted to kill her!

Jenna’s eyes were red with hatred as she desperately tried to resist.

She kicked her knee into the woman’s stomach, and the woman bent over, seemingly unable to get up in pain.

Before Jenna could get up from the ground, pain burst across the back of her head as the other woman grabbed her hair and proceeded to slap her, two fingers pinching her bleeding wound.

“Ugh!” Jenna fainted from the pain.

Ever since the two women were locked into the detention cell, the police officer who normally patrolled every few hours vanished. They would leave right after putting the food down without even a glance at Jenna lying on the ground.

In just a short few days, the women had tortured Jenna into an unrecognizable form.

The bandages on her body had long been soaked through with blood and then dried down, sticking to her. They had even taken a stab at her throat with a toothbrush.

Even the mere act of swallowing her saliva would leave her tasting blood. In the end, she could not even speak.

On that day, Jenna had already been through a session of torture by those two women in the daytime, and her vision was even a bit blurry.

She fell to the ground, faintly hearing the sound of high heels stepping on the floor.

“I wonder who was so heavy-handed that our Miss Radcliff’s face is swollen now.” The woman squatted down and reached in to caress Jenna’s face, viciously choking her the next moment.

“Ugh…” Jenna was in so much pain that her body had curled into a ball, shuddering.

Seeing Jenna on the verge of death, Yvonne felt incredibly happy. “Didn’t you ask me why I was doing this to you? Because…”

She leaned closer to Jenna through the metal cell door and whispered, “I just hate you! I hate you for having been born well, for being able to enjoy wealth and privilege, and for having a happy family! Now you have nothing. The man you love is mine, and we even have a kid together. A happy family— Ah!”

Unexpectedly, Jenna took advantage of Yvonne’s lack of vigilance and bit her finger.

Her teeth bit down with all the strength she had.

The two other women in the cell hurriedly tried to pry Jenna away and slapped her. With much difficulty, Yvonne finally managed to pull out her hand. She was bitten so badly that the blood would not stop.

“You’re insane, Jenna!” Yvonne took a tissue from her bag to stop the blood.

Once her finger had finally stopped bleeding, Yvonne approached the metal cell door again. “Today is Shawn’s birthday. We simply could not celebrate this day without you, so I came to give you this.”

She took a photograph from her bag and held it up for Jenna to see.

In the picture was the old Mrs. Radcliff, Irene, whose hand was clutching at her heart, and her eyes staring wide open but unfocused, seemingly devoid of any breath.

Jenna struggled desperately as she stared at that photo, her gaze piercing.

“That’s right, your grandmother is dead!” Yvonne even pushed the photo through the bars of the cell door, allowing her to look at it up close.

“She found out you got arrested for attempted murder, and her heart seized up! She got shocked to death. Look at how nice I am. I even got someone to capture her last moments and bring it to you.”

“You’re lying.” When Jenna opened her mouth to speak, blood flowed from the corner of her mouth.

She clearly remembered her grandmother recovering pretty well that day she left the hospital. There was no way something had happened to her!

Yvonne sneered. “I have never joked with you!”

There was no way! It was impossible!

Jenna suddenly thought of the phone number Sam had given her and a flicker of hope ignited in her heart. After bursting free from the two women’s clutches, she turned and grabbed one in turn, her fingers wrapping around the woman’s neck.

She knew that the neck was the most vulnerable spot on a human’s body!
