LOGINElena's POV
Moving didn't feel like a movie; it just felt fast. By Wednesday afternoon, Chloe’s surgery was over. The doctor came out to the waiting room to give me the news himself: the new kidney was working, and she was stable. I felt so relieved my knees almost gave out right there in the hallway. But there wasn't time to sit around. By Thursday evening, I was packing everything I owned into three cardboard boxes. My phone rang as I taped the last box shut in my tiny apartment. It was Maya. "Hey," Maya said when I picked up. She sounded out of breath. "Are you still at your place? I came by to drop off those soup containers, but there’s a big black SUV parked in the alley." I swallowed hard, looking around my empty living room. "Yeah, I'm just wrapping things up inside. Come on up." A minute later, Maya walked through the door. Her eyes went straight from my bare walls to the three boxes on the floor. She set the plastic containers on the counter and turned to me, her forehead lined with worry. "Elena... what is this?" Maya asked, pointing at the boxes. "Are you moving? You didn't say anything about moving when we talked yesterday." "It happened really fast," I said, trying to keep my voice light. "My boss... Mr. Wyatt... changed my job duties a bit. I need to be on-call for work, so he's providing a place closer to the office." Maya stared at me for a few long seconds. She stepped closer and looked at my face. "Working closer to your job? Since when does an entry-level job come with a free apartment? Elena, is everything okay? You look exhausted, and you're moving out in the middle of the week." "Everything is fine, Maya. I promise," I said, putting a hand on her arm. I hated lying to her. The NDA paper was sitting in my bag, reminding me that I couldn't say a word, but seeing her worry made my stomach turn. "Chloe's surgery went really well yesterday. The deposit went through, and she’s recovering in the room right now." "I know, and I'm so glad about that," Maya said softly, leaning in to give me a tight hug. "I just worry about you. You always try to do everything by yourself. Just promise me you aren't doing anything crazy." "I'm not," I lied quietly, hugging her back. "I'll call you as soon as I settle in. I promise." Two minutes later, Oliver’s driver, Thomas, loaded my boxes into the back of the SUV. I took one last look at my small apartment, locked the door, and handed the keys to the landlord downstairs. The penthouse was huge. It took up the whole top floor of a tall building downtown. Huge glass windows looked out over the city lights. Everything inside was modern and clean—gray marble, dark wood, and simple furniture. "Welcome home, Mrs. Wyatt," a warm voice called out as the elevator doors opened into the hallway. An older woman with gray hair pulled into a neat bun walked over. She wore a simple blue apron over a white shirt, and she had a kind smile. "Oh, please just call me Elena," I said quickly, putting my purse down on the table. "You must be..." "Martha," she said, holding out her hand. I shook it right away. "I do the cleaning and cooking around here. Though Mr. Oliver mostly lives on black coffee and take-out when he's working late on his tech business." I let out a quiet laugh. "That sounds like him." Martha’s eyes softened as she looked at me, taking in my plain clothes and tired face. She didn't look at me like a stranger, and she wasn't overly formal either. She just seemed nice. "I put your things in the main suite like he asked," Martha said, picking up my light bag before I could stop her. "And Mr. Oliver gave me clear instructions about your sister coming next week. The whole east wing has been cleaned up and prepared for her medical stuff. Her room gets a lot of morning sun, which will be nice for her recovery." My chest felt tight. "He... he already set up her room?" "He did," Martha nodded, walking me down a wide hallway. "He might look quiet and serious, child, but he pays attention to things. Now come on. You look like you haven't eaten a real meal in days. I made some chicken soup, and you're going to sit down and eat before you touch any of those boxes." I followed her into the kitchen. The smell of hot food made the huge penthouse feel a little less cold. Sitting at the counter while Martha poured me a bowl of soup, I let out a long breath. I knew this whole arrangement was strange, but as I ate, I felt like maybe I could survive it.Oliver’s POV The silence between us at the breakfast table felt warm and comfortable. Watching Elena talk about her parents and her little sister, I felt a deep sense of respect for her. She had carried so much heavy pain on her young shoulders without ever complaining or giving up. I finished my coffee, setting the white ceramic cup down on its saucer with a quiet clink. Looking across the table at her, I noticed the soft flush still resting on her cheeks. She looked relaxed now, but I hadn't forgotten the way her eyes had widened in panic when she first walked into the room this morning. I knew why she was nervous. I knew she was thinking about the kiss outside her bedroom door last night. I had purposely chosen not to bring it up. I saw how flighty she was when it came to us. If I brought up the kiss, if I pressed her about what it meant, I knew she would retreat behind her walls. She would start worrying about the contract, apologize for breaking the rules, and try to run awa
Elena’s POV The morning sun crept through the curtains, waking me up early. The moment my eyes opened, the soft magic of the night before vanished, replaced by a sudden wave of sheer panic. I sat up in bed, my heart instantly racing. Oh my God, I thought, pulling the blanket up to my chin. I kissed Oliver last night. I actually kissed my boss. My fake husband. I buried my face in my hands. How was I supposed to face him this morning? How was I supposed to walk into the kitchen, look him in the eye, and pretend like I didn't completely ruin the boundaries of our contract? For an hour, I paced back and forth in my bedroom. I tried on three different outfits before settling on a simple jeans and sweater combination. I brushed my hair, checked the mirror five times, and took ten deep breaths before finally gathering the courage to open my door. I walked down the stairs slowly, every step feeling like a mile. When I reached the dining room, I held my breath and looked around. The ta
Oliver’s POVThe quiet click of Elena’s bedroom door closing echoed through the empty hallway.I stood rooted to the spot, my hand still raised in the air where her face had been just seconds ago. My skin was still warm from her touch, and my lips were tingling from the softness of hers.I stared at the closed wooden door, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.Part of me wanted to step forward, raise my hand, and knock on the wood. *Should I talk to her about it? Should I turn the handle and go into her room right now?*I took a half-step toward her door, my fingers hovering over the polished handle. But I stopped myself. If I went in there right now, with my chest burning and my mind spinning, I didn't know what I would say. I didn't know if I could keep the distance we were supposed to have.Slowly, I let my hand drop to my side. I turned around, walked down the hall to my own bedroom, and pushed the door shut behind me.I didn't turn on the lights. I just walked o
Elena’s POVAside from that brief encounter with Oliver's bitter uncle and aunt, the rest of the evening went surprisingly well.As Oliver guided me through the grand ballroom, introducing me to foreign investors, board members, and city officials, I was met with nothing but warm smiles and gracious greetings. Even if some of them were secretly wondering about my sudden appearance in Oliver’s life, no one showed it. Everyone treated me with immense respect, hanging onto my every word and congratulating us on our marriage.By the time the event wound down and we stepped back into the quiet backseat of the black limousine, my feet were aching, but my heart was lighter than it had been in months. The car moved smoothly through the quiet, lit-up city streets.I leaned back against the leather seat, turning my head to look at Oliver. He had loosened his black bow tie slightly, looking relaxed as he stared out the window."Oliver?" I said softly. He turned his head toward me, his dark eyes
Oliver’s POVThe grand ballroom of the hotel was filled with bright lights, towering floral arrangements, and the soft hum of classical music playing in the background. Every major board member, shareholder, and corporate partner of Sterling Global and Wyatt Enterprises was in the room.I stood on the raised stage, holding the heavy gold pen as I signed my name at the bottom of the final contract. Beside me, the CEO of Sterling Group signed his copy, and we shook hands in front of a sea of flashing cameras.Once the clapping quieted down, I stepped up to the podium microphone. I looked across the crowded room until my eyes found Elena standing near the front row, glowing in her deep emerald gown."Tonight is not just a major victory for our company," I said, my voice carrying clearly through the speakers. "It is also a deeply personal milestone for me. Standing beside me through this entire process has been my incredible partner. I want to officially introduce you all to my wife, Elen
Elena’s POVFriday evening arrived sooner than I expected. After spending the morning at the office finishing up the last-minute preparations for the Sterling Group deal, I went back home to the penthouse around four o'clock to get ready for the party. When I opened the front door, I stopped right in my tracks. The living room was full of people. Three women in matching black aprons and two men with large metallic cases were standing near the couch. On a tall rolling rack in the center of the room hung my deep emerald green gown from *Aurelia*, neatly steamed and ready."Mrs. Wyatt?" a woman with short blonde hair asked, stepping forward with a bright smile. "I'm Sarah. Mr. Wyatt sent us to help you get ready for the evening."I stood there, completely surprised. "Oh... I didn't know he was sending a whole team.""He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for you tonight," Sarah said smoothly, gesturing toward the hallway. "Lead the way to your room, Mrs. Wyatt. We'll set everythi
