Se connecterThe sunlight burned through my skin, urging me awake. It had been one week since the pool party ordeal, and today was finally the wedding.
The moment when it all becomes real. When my mother marries her love, and I lose mine. But it was for the best. He was never mine to begin with. After the wedding, I planned to transfer to a college somewhere farther away, somewhere beyond where those eyes could see me or my dangerous cravings. I shook my head, hoping to push everything to the back of my mind. I headed for the bathroom before giving my dress one last glance. The water was cold, so it seeped through my bones like it knew I needed the strength. Before I could even think, I broke down in tears. I knew I shouldn't cry, but it didn't make it hurt any less. They were getting married, and I was supposed to watch and smile through everything like it wasn't killing me. I needed him too. Just like my mother needed him, so did I. But I knew it was never going to be us standing at that altar, not in this lifetime, at least. I showered quickly and changed into my maid of honour dress. After applying a bit of makeup, I was done nothing too extravagant. Today was all about my mother, and her alone, I said to myself like a mantra. As I stood close to my mother at the altar, waiting for the groom, I noticed Aaron was nowhere to be seen. I casually remembered the first time I saw him. The first time I saw those beautiful blue eyes of his, when my mother had practically dragged me out of bed on a Saturday, my hair a complete mess and my see-through nightgown leaving nothing to the imagination. My mother was excited, saying she had finally found a man good enough for her after my father's awful betrayal, leaving her for his PA. I stood outside waiting when the engine of a car could be heard. Then came the footsteps. Then came Aaron. He stepped in with all his glory tall, blond, and perfect and just like that, our eyes met, and my heart felt like it could combust into nothing. He stared at me, his eyes widening a bit before regaining his composure. My mother was somehow oblivious to this little interaction. And from that day onwards, every glance and every touch felt like my purpose in life. I fought what I felt with all my heart, but somehow I always found myself thinking of my mother's forty-five-year-old soon-to-be husband, my soon-to-be stepfather. After a few minutes, Aaron showed up, a bit drunk, with his eyes fixed on me right in front of everyone, like he didn't care. It seemed like he had been fighting a war himself, and he had probably lost it. "My dear, are you okay?" My mother asked sweetly. "I'm good, my dear. Just drank a bit too much with the boys, that's all," he said, kissing her lightly on the cheek, his eyes still on me. I avoided his gaze. He needed to have some shame. He was marrying my mother any moment from now. We sat quietly as the priest came forward to finalize their union. I stood behind my mother as my eyes stayed slightly fixed on Aaron's, while his were now on my mother. "We are all gathered here to join Mary Philips and Aaron Carter as man and wife. Those who wish otherwise should come forward now or forever hold their peace." The priest's voice echoed through the church, but of course, no one did. And just like that, my mother and Aaron were pronounced husband and wife, and my life was completely over. Throughout the ceremony, not once did he look at me or even glance my way. All he did was kiss and shower my mother with love and affection, and I was simply tossed aside like nothing. The party went on, and I tried to keep him out of my thoughts, but to no avail. By the late hours of the night, I took a walk down to the nearest beach, hoping to soak my sorrows away. Instead, I found the one man I was running from there, almost like he was waiting for me. The moment he noticed my presence, he stepped out completely naked, with not a single care in the world. "I've been waiting for you." Yet again, I was lost for words. How did he find me, and what was he doing here? I moved back, only to be pulled back into his embrace again, and this time his urgency was felt. I smelt the Alchol over his breath. He was drunk.Very if i must add.I pulled away trying to get out of his embrace, I needed to get back to everyone before something untold happens. He kept pulling me close calling me his wife. It seems he thought I was my mother.Stop it Aaron you are drunk" I'm not my mother. "Of course you are baby, look at that beautiful face of yours now don't be shy give me a hug and those slutty kisses of yours" Before I could think he slams his lips on mine, sucking them alongside my breath. I should walk away.Pull him away from me this shouldn't be happening, I'm wrong for letting this happen. He kept pulling me closer even as i resist calling all sorts of sweet name, all the delusion I was my mother. I knew something was off when he came in late this morning and a bit drunk, but whatever was going on I refuse to betray my mother much more on her wedding night. "Mary...." My heart tightened at the sound of my mother's name. I'm not my mother! I pushed back, but he pulled me in even more kissing and caressing me all over. He pulled back looking at my face like he was searching for something but couldn't find it. For a brief second I wondered if he saw me at all. He looked sad.Like he was confused. I freed myself from his embrace this time. "Aaron your are very drunk. You need to rest" A bitter smile touched his lips. "I know you are a bit angry, about this morning me coming to the altar looking like that?" I swallowed. Because I wasn't angry. I could never be angry with him. But I knew one thing I refused to be my mother's replacement. "“Baby…” he murmured, reaching for my waist again. “Come here.” He pulled me closer until only inches separated us, and his dark eyes settled on my.lips. “Aaron…” My voice trembled. “This… this is wrong. I’m not my mother…” “Shhhhh.” He silenced me with another desperate kiss, pressing his lips against mine with a new urgency.Steph's POV All I remember was going for a run, then the next thing was a black bag over my head. And now I'm waking, both arms tied to a chair and my mouth gagged for reasons I don't understand. I can't recognize any of the voices I was hearing, neither the environment, which was nothing more than a large space with no light. "Ah, look who is finally up. Welcome back. I know you have a lot of questions. Like why you're here and all that. So I'm going to make things a little better and easier for you, alright? You are here because you were involved in something you shouldn't have been into in the first place." "What are you on about? I don't even know who you are, much more be involved in anything that has to do with you," I responded. "So with all due respect, please just let me go and I promise not to tell anyone about this." "Do you really think you can threaten me, or does it look like I care if you tell anyone? I suggest you start talking about everything you
Aaron's POV"Listen, sir. We can't be too quick to jump into conclusions. If we are wrong, we would be destroying the life of an innocent young mother, actually, an entire family.""So all I ask is for a little bit of time to get the truth out, my own way. I mean, that was what I was hired for, right? So let me do my job.""If you were doing your job, or if you had done your job properly, we wouldn't be having this conversation. You have a month to figure this out, or we do this our own way.""I... Sir."Before I could even say anything, he hung up.Fuckers, all of them.As I got dressed, ready to leave, I spotted Steph, toes in the pool.I had no idea she was here, and thankfully, there were no signs of rich daddy's money around. That was good. She and I were due for a talk anyways."Steph, do you have a moment, please?""What is this about?"She certainly doesn't trust herself with me alone, or she now sees me as just her mother's husband. The second reason scared me so much that it
Aaron's POV"You promised me you would handle Kim. Things don't look handled because I can see her holding a press conference about our relationship, and as if that is not enough, I just received a summoning to court from her lawyers.Look, if you want our plans to execute as we have agreed, this kind of distraction can't be around. We need to have Kim under control before she says things that can't be undone.""Relax, Aaron. Like I said, Kim won't be a problem for too long. So just focus on your mission. That's all."Speaking about that, she got married to some kid from her high school, so how are we supposed to get her to tell us about anything if I can't get close to her?"Well, that's why we hired you now. It's your job to extract high-level information and not mine. So how you get her to trust you again is all on you. But know one thing: we are definitely running out of time, and certain people are talking. So whatever you are going to do, I suggest you get on with it, and quickl
I ran out of the hall, not even looking back. I could hear the crowd gasping and Josh and my family shouting and chasing after me, but I just couldn't. I was so confused and heartbroken, so desperate to do the right thing that it never even occurred to me if I was making a mistake. As I rushed through the crowd of people at the entrance, my only sanctuary was the bathroom, and that was where I was headed.I banged the door shut as I allowed myself to breathe in some air, and I felt my mascara and makeup get all smudged together. This wasn't the life I had wanted. None of this was what I chose. Not this dress, not Josh, and definitely not him.I could hear my mother's voice and Josh's panic, but I couldn't bring myself to open the door. I seriously thought I could go through with the wedding, but I guess not."Honey, please open up so we can talk through this, so we can figure all this out. I know you are scared, okay? Everything is happening so fast, and marriage can be scary. Trust m
It was finally the day of my wedding. As I stood in front of the mirror, makeup done, I looked at myself, and I could barely recognize who stared back. The past few months had been so traumatizing, and now I stood marrying a man that I didn't even love, all to save myself from my mother's hate and the world's criticisms. This was my only honest shot out of everything, and I intended to go through with it.As I dressed in my gown, it was like I was sealing my fate forever, and the only thought on my mind was him. Even after everything, he was all my heart and head could cling to, not my mother and not anyone else, only him.Right there made me realize something. I was deeply in love and obsessive over Aaron, and it seemed it would always be that way. But life never gives you what you want, more of what you don't think you need. And I, for one, had accepted my fate.As I walked down the aisle by my father's side, I couldn't find him in the crowd. Not even one last glance, nothing. Stand
Aaron's POVI still couldn't believe it. She was getting married to some kid out of nowhere. This totally destroys my plan; it ruins everything completely.Just how do I get her to stay close?"Well, for starters, you could give something in return, possibly make her feel, you know, you care, which I would believe you don't, right?"That question being thrown to my face was unexpected, but I immediately composed myself before speaking again.Of course, I don't care who she marries, and I will never jeopardize our plans for something as worthless as love. You should know me a little bit better by now."And what about her mother? What do you intend to do to her?"She is good people, but she will be used as part of collateral damage when I'm done. It is a pity, though. I really do care for her. If we had met under different circumstances, then things would certainly be different, but we didn't, so it wouldn't.And one more thing, could you try to handle Kimberly? She is out and about try
