Twenty-six: Overlooked

“I’m so sorry, Cookie. I had no idea he was the man you kept telling me about,” Amelia apologized, a remorseful expression etched on her face but Cookie smiled softly and waved it off.

“It’s fine, Amelia. It’s in the past now, and we’re not a thing anymore,” even as she said the words, she couldn’t stop the painful squeeze in her heart.

It's been over two months since they broke up but it’s beginning to dawn on her that she would always have a soft spot for the man. Of course, she wasn’t ready to take him back into her life. She wanted to start afresh and maybe even find the true love that she deserved but with the way her heart leaped whenever she set eyes on him, and the way it constricts whenever the sad reality that they could never be together hits her, it was obvious that a part of her heart will always belong to him against her will.
