"Follow me.” Roman’s voice cuts through my thoughts.

He is already walking away and I have no choice but to follow.

His steps are long, yet he does not once look back to see if I am keeping up. We stop in front of a pair of double black iron doors.

Without a word, he pushes them open and I step inside behind him.

The room resembles my office. Or rather, a more refined version of it. The arrangement is similar. The seating, the spacing, even the positioning of the desk.

Only everything here feels more exquisite.

I barely have time to take it all in, when suddenly, a force shoves me back.

My body hits the wall before I can react, a sharp breath escaping my lips as the impact rattles through me.

Roman stands in front of me, his presence overwhelming in a way that feels entirely different from Jude’s.

This is not Jude’s coldness. Roman looks ready to break my neck.

“What are you doing?” I snap, trying to push past him, but he does not budge.

“Shut up!” His voice is harsh, as he looks down on me with so much hatred.

“Therapist my ass! I know what Brittany told you to do!” He growls.

The words hit me instantly, and my blood runs cold.

“I know what Brittany told you to do!” Roman shouts at me.

My mouth feels dry, and I can barely come up with what to say.

For a second, everything around me seems to fade, and all I can hear is the echo of his words ringing in my ears.

Suddenly, the image of me behind bars flashes through my mind. My license would get revoked without question, especially now that I was already being monitored by the board. Everything I had worked for would crumble in an instant.

He leans in even closer, his angry breath hitting my face, heavy and suffocating.

I can’t move.

I can’t think.

Just then, the door opens and Jude strides in.

He pauses for a fraction of a second, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room, taking in the scene before him. Roman standing too close to me. My back pressed against the wall. The tension thick enough to cut through.

He raises an eyebrow, the only expression of surprise the aloof man is probably capable of showing.

“Roman? What is going on here?”

Roman springs away from me as though nothing had happened and responds immediately.

“Oh I’ll tell you what’s going on here!”

My heart begins to beat rapidly, each thud louder than the last.

This is it.

I’ve been found out.

Brittany would walk away from this without a scratch, just like she always would. Meanwhile, I would be left to deal with the consequences.

If not killed by Jude.

Roman continues, his voice filled with accusation.

“The supposed therapist your lovely wife hired isn’t a therapist at all!”

My body sways slightly, and I have to steady myself against the wall. I’m sure Jude notices. He notices everything.

“She’s a spy!”

I look up in surprise once Roman’s declaration sinks in.

What?

“A spy for the government?” Jude asks, his tone laced with sarcasm, though his face remains as composed as ever.

Roman does not pick up on it.

“Of course not, you idiot! She’s a spy for Brittany.”

He points a finger at me as though presenting evidence in a trial.

Jude chuckles. And I don’t know whether to feel scared or relieved, because th3 sound is dangerously low.

“Why would my wife need to spy on me, Roman?”

“Oh don’t act coy!” Roman runs a hand through his red hair in frustration, pacing slightly now. “What do you need a therapist for anyway? You are fine!”

There is something almost defensive in his tone.

At this point, I am certain Roman has no idea about the real task Brittany assigned to me, and that realization allows a small breath of relief to slip through me.

I straighten slightly, forcing myself to step away from the wall.

“No one is completely fine,” I say, my voice steadier than I feel. “Visiting a therapist does good for a lot of people.”

Roman turns to glare at me, his expression darkening.

But I don’t stop.

“Especially someone like you. It could do you some good to talk out those anger issues.”

For a moment, it looks like he might actually lunge at me.

His jaw tightens, his hand curling slightly at his side.

“Why you...”

“Roman.”

Jude’s voice cuts through the tension cleanly.

He steps between us, his movement calm, but deliberate. His back is now to Roman, while his gaze settles on me.

There is something unreadable in his eyes.

“Just drop it. I have a session with my therapist.”

“But...”

“Roman.”

He repeats the name again.

Nothing more.

Yet the warning is clear.

Roman exhales sharply, muttering something under his breath before throwing me one last look filled with disdain.

Then he turns and walks out, slamming the door behind him.

The sound echoes through the room, leaving behind a heavy silence.

For a few seconds, neither of us speaks.

Then Jude breaks it.

“Dr Cecilia, from the look on your face, I can tell you just misunderstood something.”

My senses sharpen immediately.

I take a few careful steps away from him, creating distance.

“And what exactly is that?”

His gaze lingers on me, almost amused.

“You look relieved. As if you just successfully fooled me.”

My fingers curl slightly at my side.

“Well don’t be mistaken.” He continues. “Just as Roman said, I’m aware you’re a little spy for my wife.”

I almost laugh.

If not for the fact that the situation is far too serious for amusement.

A little spy?

I am practically an assassin.

“It seems you have trust issues, Mr Martinez,” I reply calmly. “I’ll add it to your file.”

That earns me a laugh.

A real one.

It catches me off guard.

For a brief moment, his entire expression softens, and I notice something I hadn’t before. He has a dimple.

The detail is so unexpected that I find myself staring. Jude notices my staring and just as quickly, the smile disappears, replaced by the familiar cool and distant expression.

“Let’s go for our session.”

“You seem eager today.”

I move toward my chair, intending to sit, but before I can, his hand closes around my elbow.

The contact is firm, stopping me in place.

“We’re not having it here.” He says.

I frown, glancing briefly around the room.

The entire space had been prepared for this exact purpose.

Then what is the point of all of this?

“Then where?”

He looks at me, a faint smirk forming on his lips.

“In my hotel.”

The paramedics moved quickly.Jude walked beside the stretcher as they rushed Cecilia through the hospital entrance. Blood still stained his hands and shirt. Though he barely noticed.“Sir, please step back.”One of the nurses blocked his path as they pushed Cecilia through another set of doors.Jude didn’t move.“She needs surgery immediately.” Another doctor said.“Then do it.” He replied gruffly. The doctors exchanged looks. “We need authorization.”“You have it.”“We also need—”“You have everything.”Jude pulled out his phone.Within minutes hospital administrators were rushing downstairs. The best surgeons in the building were called in. Operating rooms were cleared. Specialists were brought in.Jude was willing to pay all the money in the world as long as it meant Cecilia’s eyes opened. She disappeared behind the operating room doors, and he suddenly felt helpless. Unable to do anything further, except to wait. Hours passed.Jude sat outside the operating room.Mae sat opposi

Jude sped up his car. Roman communicated with him through his in-ears. They were scouring the city all morning, and afternoon.Jude drove around himself, following the trail of where cameras had last picked up Cecilia. The traffic light showed red, and he stopped. While waiting, he realised there was training station nearby. He had asked Roman to get access to all camera footage of the city in the penthouse’ perimeter. From the traffic videos, there was no trace of them. His intuition told him to go to the station. They hadn’t tracked there. So Jude parked his car, and called Roman.“Bring my men to the central train station. I’m heading downtown.”He ended the call, ans thought, if a woman wanted to run away, she would definitely take the furthest stop away from the city. And so, that was where he went. ***Jude stepped off the train and immediately knew something was wrong. The station platform was crowded, but nobody was acting normally. People were rushing in one direction. S

CECILIA’S POV“Mummy, where are we going now?” Alex inquired from my side.I looked down at my son and forced a smile onto my face. The train rattled beneath us as it sped forward, carrying us farther and farther away from Jude. At least, that was what I hoped. My heart still hadn’t stopped pounding since we escaped the penthouse.“We’re going somewhere safe.” I told him softly.Alex didn’t look convinced.Neither did Allison. The twins sat on either side of me while Mae occupied the seat opposite ours. She was keeping an eye on everyone entering and leaving the train carriage.Even now, she didn’t look relaxed. To be honest, neither did I.The escape had happened so quickly that it almost felt unreal.Just a few hours ago, we’d still been trapped inside Jude’s heavily guarded penthouse. Now we were halfway across the city.I glanced out the train window. Buildings flashed past. People living ordinary lives.I envied them. I envied how simple their lives looked. Because mine felt li

Jude sat at the head of the table, looking at the heads of the inner circle.“So Rick brought pack your little obsession?” Ernest asked after they finished discussing how to distribute their weapons that just landed.“What?” Jude narrowed his eyes at the man, before turning to Rick.Rick put his hands up defensively. “I didn’t call her that. Your wide did.”“What?” Jude didn’t understand, but was ready to pounce on someone. “You’ve been in contact with my wife?”“Of course not.” Jack grumbled “But your wife sure has been in contact with the media.”Jude didn’t understand, and was about to ring up Roman, when Samson silently pulled out a tablet, and slid it over to Jude.On the screen was Brittany, his ex-wife. She seemed to be on some interview, and dabbed gently at her eyes. She was spilling crocodile tears and sprouting lies.“He refused treatment. He refused help and continued to be obsessed with the woman.”Jude wanted to put his fist through the tablet.Instead, he calmly slid it

Almost like it were an epiphany, I came to understand something simple.I couldn’t guarantee that Jude would let me go. Or let Mae, or the kids leave her safely. We had to run away. Just then someone knocked, to which Jude gave permission and the door opened. Roman stepped inside. His expression immediately soured when he saw me. The feeling was mutual."Sir.""What?"“The inner circle meeting is about to start.”Jude nodded. “Prepare the car, I’ll be there in a minute.”Roman complied, and exited with one more glare at me. When he shut the door, I turned to Jude. "What happens now?"He looked me up and down before saying. "You stay here.""No.” I couldn’t just be caged here in his penthouse!"Yes.""No.""Just try and escape, the security here is ironclad."I rubbed my forehead. It wouldn’t be easy to slip out now. "I want my freedom." I said, trying the gentle approach. His gaze softened for a second. He looked vulnerable in the little moment as he responded. "So did I."The wo

Of all the things I expected him to say, that wasn’t one of them.“What?”A dark smile appeared on his face, and he seemed to revel in my shock. “Brittany’s family has been a nuisance to me and my circle for quite a while.”I’m able to regain my bearings. “Okay. But what does that have to do with me? If you and your powerful group of friends find it hard to take them down, what can I possibly do?”He was silent, looking at me with an intensity that made me uncomfortable, before he said. He was silent for a few seconds, looking at me with an intensity that made me uncomfortable, before he said. "First of all the inner circle are not my friends."“Right.”He went on. “And you’re a witness to take Brittany to court.”If not from the seriousness on his face, I would have laughed thinking he was joking.“Really? People like you go to court?”He rolled his eyes. “I got married in court.”“Mhhm. So that you’re reason for uprooting my life and bringing me here?”He clenched his jaw, starin
