The next day at school, I was heading to my locker to change my books for second period, when I saw Nate leaning against my locker.
I went up to him. "Move out of my way." I demand. I was getting tired of his behaviour now.
"Why don't you make me, bitch." He returns smirking. "I know you want to get your hands all over my body."
"I would rather stick my fingers in a blender that is turned on!" I hiss angrily.
"Come on babe, that wasn't the reaction I was getting at the party when you could not keep your hands off me." He said aloud for everyone to hear. By this time, people stop doing what they were doing and stare at the both of us.
"You were the one that had your hands all over me at the party, remember? Sorry to get your ego deflated, but unlike all the other girls that is dying for your attention, I would rather not see you or talk to you." I said. I watch as his eyes turns cold and he looks at me angrily. He made a step towards me, but I back up.
"Get away from her, you jerk." I hear my best friend said from behind me.
"Who are you to tell me what to do?" Nate demands.
"I could be your worse nightmare, if you think about coming near my best friend again." Beth said through gritted teeth. Nate looks at Beth, then back at me before walking away.
I sigh in relief as I grab my books for History class. Everyone that was in the hallway went back to their business.
"What a jerk." Beth said beside me.
"Yeah, I thought he was going to attack me when you showed up." I said.
"Scums like him don't belong in our school. Not even on this earth!" Beth fumes. She was really angry. That is what I like about her, she would say whatever comes to her mouth and she don't take liking to people like Nate.
That is how she and I became friends back in freshman year. I was being picked on because of the braces I used to wear and she was the one to save me from this girl who used to bully me. We became best friends ever since.
I smile at her. "Not even in the universe. I can't imagine him on another planet. Although, I would love to see him get eaten by a bunch of aliens." I said tapping my chin in thought.
She laughs and loops her hand through mine. "You have a weird sense of humor. I guess that's why we are best friends."
I smile at her as we both went to our History class.
----------
I haven't seen Liam all day. I was starting to think that he was not at school.
School was now over and I decided to go over to his house to see if he was okay. It was not easy getting his address from administration. So I had to tell a lie or two to get it.
I was now on my way to Liam's house. When I got there, I went up to the front porch and rang the doorbell. A few seconds later, the door was opened by a beautiful woman with long black hair. She had deep blue eyes, so much like Liam's. I think she was his mother.
"Hello, I'm Julia. Is Liam here? I didn't see him at school today, so I decided to check up on him. We have an assignment together." I explain.
She smiles at me. "Are you a friend of Liam's? He doesn't have much friends. In fact, I haven't seen any friends here before. I'm glad to see he has one that cares so much about him." She said, then adds. "Come on in dear, Liam is inside. I was feeling ill this morning and he decided to stay with me, even though I told him I was okay and he should go to school. But that is just Liam, ever since...." She trails off with a faraway look in her eyes.
As if clearing her thoughts, she shakes her head and smile once again. She turns her head in the direction of the stairs. "Liam, there is someone here to see you!" She calls. She turns to me. "Are you staying for dinner, dear? I'm making steak and it's enough."
"Um...I wasn't planning on staying that long, Mrs. Black."
"I would love it if you stayed." She insists.
"Okay." I said. Just then Liam appears on the top of the stairs. His eyes widen when he saw me. He came down the stairs slowly.
"Liam dear, Julia is staying for dinner." His mom said and left us and went into what seems to be the kitchen.
I shift from foot to foot nervously and look down on the floor. All of a sudden, my reason for being here seemed foolish. It's not like we are friends. Well, we did have our work to finish, although that was not why I was here because we were way ahead on our work.
I finally look up. "Hey Liam...um...I did not see you at school so...I was wondering if were are okay." I said.
He looks at me surprised, then an annoyed expression came over his face. "Look, we are not friends. You don't need to be checking up on me." He said in a hard tone.
I was taken aback by the coldness of his tone and the intensity of his eyes. "Um...I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I better go."
"My mom is looking forward to you staying for dinner. You don't want to disappoint her." He said before I could take a step to the front door.
"Okay." I stand awkwardly in front of him, not knowing what to do. Why did I come here? I can be impulsive sometimes. I should have listened to Beth. Why did he have to be so mean anyway? It's like he purposely don't want to talk to anyone.
Mr. Black pops her head from the kitchen. "Why don't you guys go and have a swim until dinner is ready." She suggests.
Wow! They have a pool.
Liam looks in the direction his mother is. "Mom, that's not necessary." Liam said with a sigh.
"Oh come on. It has been a while since you have been in the pool." She said, then before Liam could say anything else, she was gone.
"Do you mind?" I ask, breaking the silence.
He hesitated a moment. "I don't care. Do what you want." But it was obvious he was irritated.
"I don't have anything to swim in with me." I said. "Do you have anything I can borrow?"
Liam looks at me for a long time, before he turns and walks upstairs. I'm guessing he was going for some clothes for me, so I follow him to his room. His room was neat with blue walls and white curtains. There was a bed in the middle of the room and the only other furniture was a bed side table, a chair was pulled up beside it.
Liam searches his closet and came back out with a light blue shorts and a white T-shirt. He handed them to me and indicated a bathroom down the hall. I went in and changed.
When I came out and went to the back yard, Liam was already there standing beside the pool in a brown shorts and no shirt. I could not take my eyes from his muscled chest. I blink my eyes away, when he looks up at me.
A smile spread across my lips when an idea came into my head. I knew he didn't like me much, but I'm going to have so much fun. I went up behind him and shove him in the water. It would not have been easy, if I hadn't caught him off guard. I wide smile spread across my lips as his head came up back.
"Why did you do that?" He asks and I shrug my shoulders. I saw that he was not angry though, he just shakes his head at my behaviour. He remained in the water, so I went into the water to join him. I began to swim, but Liam just lounge around in the water not doing a thing. Man, this boy was weird.
We were only in the water for five minutes, when Liam got out of the pool. He takes up a towel from the floor and walks in the direction of the house without saying anything to me. I came out as well and take up a next towel that was there and went in as well.
"Oh there you both are. Dinner is almost ready, so go and wash up, okay?" Mrs. Black said as we came into the house. I went upstairs to the bathroom and changed back into my clothes.
I went back downstairs to see Liam already sitting at the table. I went and took the seat beside him. His mother came and sat across from us and we begin eating.
"That was delicious, Mrs. Black. Thank you." I told her when we were finished eating.
"Thanks Julia. No problem." She said beaming.
"Well I have to go now, my mom would be worried." I said although I had text my mother earlier and told her I was having dinner at Liam's. I said my goodbyes to both Liam and his mother.
While I was walking home, I couldn't help but smile to myself. I don't know why, but I like to spend time with Liam, even thought the feeling wasn't mutual. Despite all that, for some unknown reason, my heart give a little flutter at the prospect of finding a way under his shell and locate the real guy hiding underneath.
"Is Liam going to the prom with you on Friday?" Bethany asks me as we walk to our mathematics class.I shrug. "I don't think so. Dances are not his scene. He told me that before.""Oh okay." Beth said."If he doesn't want to go, I understand. I'm not going to hold that against him. I'm still going to go to prom and enjoy myself." I said, smiling at her.She grins back. "Oh yes and remember that you are a prom queen nominee." She said in a singsong voice.I groan when she said that. I didn't really care for prom queen, but Jasmine had nominated me when I was in the hospital. I didn't even know. I was shocked when I heard my name being called over the intercom as a prom queen nominee last month. I didn't even campaign because I didn't care to win. After a while Jasmine adds. "By the way, I snuck in and saw the work you guys did on the decorations. I like it." She compliments."Yes it is." I said smiling in reminiscence at the work we had done.A month back, I had went to help Simone wit
Julia's POVI awoke the next morning, feeling more rested. As soon as I open my eyes, I find Liam watching me.I stretch and smile at him. "Were you watching me sleep?" I ask."Yes." He said, returning my smile. "I love watching you."My smile broaden at his comment. I then look over at the table near the window. It was laden with get-well cards and flowers. I saw them yesterday, but was too tired to really look at them.Liam follows my line of sight and looks at the flowers as well. "A lot of your friends visited and brought those." He explains. He then points at a bunch of purple flowers. "Those are from me.""There are all beautiful." I said quietly. He then gestures to the room. "And this room that you are in, is courtesy of my dad. He paid to have you moved into this comfortable room with everything you need."My eyes widen. "Your dad paid for this room?" He nods. "Wow...I guessed I really missed a lot." I didn't know that he was talking to his dad again."Yeah. He came yesterday
Liam's POVAnother day has passed and now today was Wednesday. After school, I decided to go to the park, just to think about things. It was very hard to go through something like this again. However, no matter how heartbroken and devastated I am, I will never turn my back on her. I will never leave her. I know deep down that she needs me more than ever.I soon left the park and went to the hospital. I pass Julia's parents in the hallway, as they both headed to the hospital's cafeteria. They both had left work early and was here since then. After talking to them a little bit, I went up to Julia's room. I walk over to the chair that was beside her bed and sit down.I was in the room for ten minutes, when I hear a light knock on the door. I look towards the doorway and see that it was my mother. She begins to walk towards me and I get up to meet her halfway."Liam, your father is here to see you." She said. I was about to tell her that he was the last person I wanted to see right now, b
Liam's POVThe weekend had come and gone, but Julia still hadn't woken up. It has now been four days and I was beginning to think the worse.Today was now Monday and I have decided to go to school. Even though, I didn't want to, I knew that I had to, because I couldn't keep skipping school. I was currently at home getting ready for school. I still hadn't eaten a full meal, only small bites and my mother was beginning to worry about me.As soon as I was ready, I got in my car and drive to school. When I reach school, I park in the parking lot and get out. I enter the school building and walk to my locker. Students in the hallway gave me looks; some were sympathetic and some were just blank. I held my head straight and ignore them. I didn't feel like dealing with anyone right now.I get my books out of my locker and went to my first class of the day. Mathematics was one of my favourite subjects, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't concentrate. My maths teacher was currently expla
Liam's POVThe following day was Friday and Julia still hadn't woken up. There was no improvement; her condition was the same. Yesterday, I had went home to have a shower, changed my clothes and bring back anything that I would need. I came back to the hospital right after. My mother had called me to try and convince me to go to school today, but I still refused. Surprisingly, she didn't argue with me. Julia's parent hadn't been to work either. They had asked for two days off. Beth and Brian did not go to school today either, but Brian had took Beth home to get some things.I was currently sitting on the chair that I had been on since I got to the hospital. I suddenly look up to see Dr. Barnes walking towards us.He greets us with a smile. "Julia can be visited by friends now." He relates. I nod my head at him, before he walks away again. I get up from my seat and begin to walk towards room 205.When I reach the door, I open it and step inside the room. Instantly, my eyes went to Juli
Liam's POVIt was now around 7pm and I was still at the hospital. I didn't plan on leaving, not until Julie wakes up.Julia's mom was asleep on the chair that she was on. Her father had went home to get some blankets to bring here. Beth was asleep as well. Her head was placed in Brian's lap, who was stroking her hair gently. He looks tired as well."Liam!" I hear my mother's voice. I look down the corridor and saw her walking towards me. I had called her earlier and informed her about what had happened. She said she would be here as soon as she left work.I stand up to meet her. She wraps her arms around me in a hug, when she reaches me. "I'm so sorry, honey." She said quietly. She pulls away and looks at me with a sad expression. "How is she? Have you heard anymore news?"I sigh and shoves my hands in my pants pockets. "No. No development." I answer, my voice cracking a bit."Oh honey." Her eyes then trails over to where Julia's mother lay, still asleep. "I can imagine what her mothe
Liam's POVAs soon as I left my mother's work place, I drove in the direction of Julia's house.I smile when I thought about her. This girl has really changed me. Changed me back into who I was before and maybe more. She has that effect on people. She is sweet, kind and she cares about people. I like that about her. I have always pushed people away before, so I never knew that I could like someone this much. She makes me so happy. Her natural cheerfulness and excitement is contagious. I don't know how she does it. Her easy smile, that lights up her entire face, makes my heart race every time. I don't know what this girl is doing to me, but I know that I have never felt this way before.I was going to ask her to be my girlfriend today at school, but my phone rang and then that girl came along and I didn't want to ask her in a rush. I wasn't even scared to make that commitment, because I'm sure about how I feel about her. She is everything to me and I'm going to let her know that.I fin
At the end of the day on Wednesday, I was standing by my locker waiting on Liam. He had told me this morning that he had something to ask me and I was curious as to what it was. Finally, I see him walking towards me. When he reaches where I stood, he smiles at me. Before I could get a word out, he wraps his hands around my waist and kissed me.Even though, he took me by surprise, I melted into the kiss. The kiss did not last long, as he pulls away a few seconds later. He takes my hand in his and smiles down at me. I look at him quizzically."So, I know tha-" he began, but was cut off by the ringing of his phone. He gives me an apologetic smile, before he fished his phone out of his pocket. "Hello." he said into the receiver. He talked to the person for a few seconds, before he hangs up."That was my mom." He said, putting the phone back into his pocket. "She has left some documents at home. She can't leave the office, so she asked me if I can go get them and bring them to her." He exp
The following day, I got ready for school quickly and went downstairs to the kitchen. I saw my father in the kitchen as soon as I entered."Good morning Dad." I greet."Morning Julie." Dad responds as he poured himself a glass of orange juice."Where is Mom?" I ask as I got a bowl, the milk and the box of cheerios."Your mother has already left for work." He informs. As soon as I finish making my cereal, I sat down at the kitchen island to eat.I look up at Dad, who was now at the sink, rinsing out his glass. "So, aren't you going to work?" I ask. Normally, he would have left by now."I'm going in late today." He replies, turning off the tap. He then turns to me and smiles. "That's good isn't it? That means we can have a father-daughter time." He teases."Dad, I have school." I said, even though I knew he was joking. That was who Dad was. People would say that I got my cheerfulness and happy-go-lucky personality from him. Which is true."Oh yeah." He said, faking a sigh. "So much for
