Tamara

“I'll soon be done.” He said, and I stopped on my track before standing in front of his table.

I said nothing. “I see the way you look at him. But I'll warn you for the last time. Leon is mine.” She said.

“You made that clear the last time,” I said, turning to look at her. I didn't want to get on her bad side when I came, but without being told, I knew I was already on her bad side.

She saw me as a competition, and I still don't understand why.

“And who seduces anyone with a glass of juice?” I said under my breath but loud enough for her to hear. I turned to the door, and that minute, it opened, and Jake stepped out.

“The don said you can come in, Tamara,” he said.

“What? Why can she go in while I am here standing?” Sheila was angry. Jake held the door open, and I walked in.

Jake began, “He told me to tell you that…”

Leon was seated with three other men in a semi-circle. They were speaking in a calm voice. I bowed and walked to place the glass of juice on his table. He didn'

TamaraI knew it was a bad idea the second my foot hit the pavement outside the diner. The air was damp, thick with the kind of heaviness that always came before a storm. My hoodie was pulled low, sunglasses hiding half my face even though it was nearly sunset. I kept my head down as I crossed the parking lot, my boots crunching over gravel. Every step felt like I was betraying Leon, even though I told myself this wasn’t betrayal. It was just meeting a family.Jasper was already inside when I pushed the door open. He looked up too quickly, like he’d been watching the door since he sat down. He was thinner, beard unkempt, shirt wrinkled. Like always, he didn’t look like someone who had their shit together. Sitting across from him was a man I hadn’t expected to see—Thiago. The badge practically glinted from his tucked-in posture, the way his gaze met mine like he already had an opinion I wouldn’t like.I slid into the booth opposite them without a word.“You look tired,” Jasper said car

TamaraI didn’t even know where we were going until we got there.Leon hadn’t said a word the entire drive, just one hand on the wheel, the other resting casually on his lap. There was no music playing. No small talk. The silence was thick, like it meant something, and I didn’t dare break it. I just kept staring out the window as the car pulled through some narrow, unfamiliar streets and finally into a gated property. From outside, it looked like a mansion someone had buried in darkness on purpose. There were tinted cars parked out front. Expensive. Guarded. Nobody smiled. The men at the entrance had guns, real ones, and they didn’t hide them. One of them nodded at Leon and opened the gate. That was the only greeting.“This isn’t just some dinner party, is it?” I asked finally, when he stepped out and walked around to open my door.He looked down at me, face unreadable. “It’s an auction.”I frowned. “An auction for what?”He didn’t answer. Just offered me his hand, and after a beat, I

LeonThe ceiling above me looked like a cracked tombstone. Stark white. Too clean. Like the rest of the damn hospital. It smelled like alcohol and cheap soap. My chest burned every time I breathed, and my arm felt like it had been chewed up and stitched together with someone’s bad attitude.I was alive.I didn’t know if that was a good thing yet.Sean was sitting by the window, scrolling through his phone, face tight like he hadn’t slept in days. His shirt was wrinkled, stained near the collar. He looked like shit, which probably meant I looked worse.Tamara was by my bed. Silent. Legs crossed, arms folded, eyes red but dry now. She hadn’t said a word since I woke up. Just sat there. Breathing. Looking at me like she couldn’t decide if I was worth the trouble or not.Her silence did more damage than the bullet.I shifted slightly and grunted.Sean looked up. “Easy. You move too much, you’ll rip that shit open again.”“I’m not dead,” I muttered.“Yeah, no thanks to your dumb ass,” he s

LeonTwo days after Don Casey sent me Danny's video, I decided to end what I started. I let Sheila go because Tamara asked but right now, he crossed the line and put fire in my asshole... I told Sean to locate where Don Casey was hiding Sheila, because I knew if he didn't hide her in a place he thought no one would find, he wouldn't mess around with me.And I know if I don't retaliate in a way that brings him to his knees, his major target would be Tamara, the major reason I hurt his daughter, he would never let that go.I stood at the entrance of the old building her father used to hide guns during his paranoid years—like the paranoid bastard didn’t realize his own daughter was the bigger liability. That was the mistake he made, being with Sheila for so long. I know a lot of things about Casey, she had said them in love with me... women don't have secrets when they love and that is risky in our line of business. My boots made soft, crunching sounds on the gravel. No one met me at the

LeonThe warehouse smelled like old metal and gasoline, real thick, the kind that clings to your skin no matter how long you scrub. I stood near the edge of the railing on the second floor, looking down at the layout one last time. Crates—empty. Trucks, stationary. Lights dimmed, just enough to bait curious eyes. It was all exactly how I needed it."He's gonna send someone," I muttered under my breath. I could already feel it in my gut. "That arrogant bastard can't resist a big fucking score."Sergio stood beside me, his arms crossed, eyes hard. "You sure about this?""No." I lit a cigarette and let the smoke burn the back of my throat. "But it's the only way I’m gonna flush out that snake.”We’d spread the word two nights ago through a mole who didn’t even exist. Word on the street was that Leon's crew scored a truckload of Russian arms and was dumb enough to warehouse it in an unsecured dock. We made sure the story leaked to one of Don Casey’s lower-rung street dogs…the kind who tal
