Sabrina’s POV.

The last three days had been a nightmare of polite suffocation.

Since the disaster at the seafood restaurant, the dynamic in the house had shifted into something unrecognizable. Cole didn't fight with me anymore. He didn't argue. Instead, he treated me with a terrifying, gentle caution—like I was made of glass that had already begun to crack.

He watched me when I poured coffee. He double-checked that I had locked the doors. He asked me, three times a day, "How are you feeling, really? Are you sure you won’t give the psychiatrist a chance?” with a look of deep, furrowed concern.

He thought I was losing my mind.

I knew exactly who had planted that seed.

I tried to act normal. I tried to be the perfect wife and mother to prove him wrong. But it was hard to stay calm when Elise was constantly hovering, offering to help with a smile that didn't reach her predatory eyes.

It was Tuesday afternoon. Cole was at the office, but he had called twice already to check in.

Elise’s POV.The back of the police cruiser smelled of stale coffee and industrial cleaner. The handcuffs were tight, biting into the delicate skin of my wrists, but I didn't complain. I didn't cry.I sat in the dark, watching the city lights blur past the window. Most women in my position would be panicking. They would be thinking about lawyers, or jail cells, or the shame of a mugshot. But I wasn't most women. I was a Blackwood. And more importantly, I was a survivor.I thought about the look on Sabrina’s face. The smugness. The way she stood next to Cole, holding his hand, acting like she belonged there. Like she was the queen and I was the jester. She thinks she won, I thought, a cold smile touching my lips. She thinks a metal cage can hold me.Cole was just confused. That was the only explanation. Sabrina had poisoned him against me. She had twisted the narrative, used that brat of a baby to anchor him, and turned my protector into my jailer. He didn't hate me. He was just lost.

Cole’s POV.The taste of peppermint was still on my tongue, but it tasted like ash.I stood in the entryway, the manila envelope shaking in my hands. I read the letter from the Swiss attorney again. And again....harassment of Neo Vanhoven... faked pregnancy... restraining order...I looked at the medical report. Clean bill of health.I felt like the floor had dropped out from under me. For days now, I had treated Sabrina like she was hysterical. I had canceled the investigation. I had defended Elise, held her when she fainted, and scolded my wife for not being compassionate enough.I looked up at Sabrina. She was standing by the stairs, her arms crossed over her chest. She wasn't gloating. She looked exhausted. She looked like a woman who had been screaming for help in a soundproof room for a month."Brie," I choked out. The name felt heavy in my throat."Do you believe me now?" she asked softly."I..." I dropped the papers on the table next to the bottle of breath mints. "God, Sabri

Sabrina’s POV.The next morning, I changed my strategy.Fighting hadn't worked. Screaming hadn't worked. Crying had only made me look unstable. Elise had successfully painted me as a hysterical, jealous wife, and Cole—my brilliant, logical husband—had bought the painting. So, I decided to become exactly what they wanted me to be: silent.I sat at the breakfast table, staring at my oatmeal. I didn't glare at Elise. I didn't snap at Cole. I moved like a robot."Did you sleep well?" Cole asked gently, placing a hand on my shoulder as he poured coffee. He was watching me with that same pained, cautious expression he’d worn for three days."Fine," I whispered, keeping my eyes down. "Just tired.""You should take it easy today," Elise chimed in. She was wearing a peach-colored sundress, looking fresh and vibrant. "Maybe a spa day? You seem... wound tight."I gripped my spoon until my knuckles turned white, but I forced my face to remain blank. "Maybe.""I have my check-up with Dr. Evans tod

Cole’s POV.The business card felt heavy in my pocket, burning against my thigh like a brand.Dr. Elias Aris. Psychiatry & Trauma Specialist.I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in the master bedroom, staring out at the dark, sprawling grounds of the estate. The moon was hidden behind a thick bank of clouds, leaving the gardens in shadow. It felt fitting. A heavy, suffocating grey had settled over this house, and I seemed to be the only one trying to hold back the storm.I pulled the card out and looked at it again in the dim light. Elise had pressed it into my hand earlier on the patio. Then, in the kitchen, I had tried to give it to Sabrina, but she had looked at it like I was handing her a grenade.I rubbed my face with my free hand. The logical part of my brain knew that calling Dr. Aris was the right move. If Sabrina was spiraling—and after the screaming match in the restaurant today, the way she had shoved Elise, and the manic look in her eyes in the kitchen—it was clear she

Sabrina’s POV.I was standing in the kitchen, my hands gripping the edge of the marble island so hard my knuckles were white.I was waiting for him.I had watched them through the window. I had seen them on the patio. I saw Elise crying, I saw her touching his knee, and I saw the way Cole leaned in, listening to her lies with that furrowed, serious brow he used during board meetings. He was buying it. He was buying every poisonous word dripping from her lips. The sliding glass door opened.Cole walked in.I braced myself for a fight. I expected him to yell. I expected him to ask me why I was so cruel, why I humiliated his dying friend in public. I had my defenses ready. I had the receipt in my pocket, ready to slam it on the counter again. But he didn't yell.He stopped in the doorway, looking at me. His expression wasn't angry. It was... soft. Pitying. It was the look you give a child who has just scraped their knee, or a dog that has been kicked."Hey," he said gently, his voice low
