Ana's POV

I buried myself in the launch to outrun him.

It was the only thing that worked. When I was deep in the numbers, picking apart the ad spend, rewriting the message, there was no room left in my head for the storm, the dark, his hand finding mine and not letting go. There was no room for the phone that had buzzed with my husband's name and ended the night before it could begin.

So I worked. I worked like my life was the prize.

And it paid off.

"You need to see these," my data lead said,

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 60: Lunch With My Stepmother

Sebastian's POV Three days after the trust account closed, I stopped getting answers from the family office and started getting invitations.‘Mary would love to see you. It has been so long.’I stared at the message for a long time before I answered it. I hadn't seen her in two years, and I had spent most of that time trying not to think about why.She chose a restaurant that cost more per plate than most people's weekly wage, quiet, tucked away, the kind of place where nobody looks up when a family argument happens at table six.She was already seated when I arrived. She stood and kissed both my cheeks, and her hands lingered on my shoulders a moment too long, studying me."You've got thin," she said. "You always get thin when you are working on something.""Mary.""Sit, sit. You look like you haven't slept in a month." She waved for the waiter without looking away from me. "Order the fish. You used to love the fish here."That was the horror of her, and I had known it since I was

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 59: Anastasia Strauss

Ana's POV The invite appeared on my calendar at 8:41 in the morning, and that was how I found out.Governance Review: A. Voss. Four names on the attendee list. Board counsel. HR. Doyle. Someone from compliance I didn't recognize. And my own name sat at the top like a subject line, not an invitation, and nobody had said a word to me before it landed.I sat at my desk and stared at it for a long moment.‘They're reviewing me. And I'm the last to know.’I found Marissa by the printers before the meeting started, because I already knew, somehow, whose fingerprints were on this."You did this," I said. She didn't deny it and she didn't hide behind sweetness the way she usually did."I didn't invent anything," she scoffed, pulling a document off the tray, not even looking up. "I just stopped protecting you from what's already true.""That's a nice way to say you reported me.""Is it wrong, though?" She turned to face me then, and there was no cruelty in it, which somehow made it worse. "

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 58: None

Caspian's POV The results had come through hours ago, but I hadn't gone home.I was on the motorway instead, sixty miles out of the city, heading towards an industrial park because a specialist had said words I couldn't put down long enough to drive anywhere else.“Normal count,” he'd told me, sliding the paper across the desk. “Normal motility. No evidence of any historical condition consistent with your original assessment.”I had sat very still and said nothing, because I didn't trust what my voice would do.He'd spread six years of reports across his desk, the ones I'd brought without quite knowing why, some instinct telling me to bring everything. He studied them for a long moment, moving one against another, and then he said the thing that turned the whole six years over in my chest."The numbers barely move," he said. "A point or two, across six years. Living men fluctuate, Mr. Strauss. Illness. Heat. Stress. Sleep. A body responds to a life." He looked up at me. "These don't

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 57: The Trust

Sebastian's POV I had been sitting in that car for three hours. And I'm not a man who sits in cars. I'm a man who moves the moment he makes up his mind, who doesn't wait for anything. But I had learned patience the hard way this year, in a study with the door shut, counting dates that didn't add up, and patience was the only thing that had gotten me this far.Elias Renner walked out of the clinic at shift change, tired, unremarkable, a man who had made himself very good at disappearing into ordinary places."Dr. Renner."He stopped mid-step. I saw three things quickly cross his face. Recognition. Fear. And then, badly, an attempt to arrange both into something rehearsed."I don't know you," he said."You know my name. You signed it under yours, on a file two years ago." I kept my voice level. "I have some questions.""I have nothing to say to you."He was nervous in a way that told me everything before he'd said a word. A man with nothing to hide doesn't go still like that. Then h

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 56: The Room I Never Entered

Ana's POV I didn't shout.I sat down on the hallway floor instead, my back against the wall, my knees pulled up, the envelope still loose in my hand. It was the only thing my body knew how to do at that moment. He saw me fold instead of fight, and something in his face frightened me more than anger would have. He had seen me angry before. But I don't think he had ever seen me fold. Then to my surprise, he sat down across from me. On the floor. In his own hallway, in a suit that cost more than my first month's rent, sitting on cold marble like a man who had run out of other places to stand."He was first at everything," he said. "School. Sports. The things that mattered to her and the things that didn't. And he was never once unkind about it. That was the part I couldn't forgive."He told it flatly. No asking for anything, no softening it for me. The locked room. The timed hours at the desk. His mother standing over him with a lamp that never went off early enough. The year he fina

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   Chapter 55:The Name I Never Asked For

Caspian's POV "What is this?" Ana asked, holding the envelope up. "And I need you to tell me whether you know a man called Sebastian Strauss."Both questions landed in the same breath, and I could only survive answering one of them.I didn't speak. Not yet. And my face immediately went still. Blank. Unreadable, the way a locked room is unreadable from the outside. She said his name in my house.I have known his name my entire life. I have known it the way you know the shape of a scar you never look at directly.Sebastian. My father's other son. Married, somewhere, to someone, a fact I had filed away years ago in the same locked place I kept everything about him, unexamined on purpose. And now the woman standing in my study doorway, carrying my child, had just said that name like it belonged to her.°°°°°°°°°°Twelve months ago I had her investigated thoroughly.Employment history. References. Credit. The lease on that first apartment. A friend named Emily. The route she walked home f

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   CHAPTER 5: Fifty Thousand Reasons

Ana's POV I had been at my desk twenty minutes when HR walked in and shut the door behind her."Settling in?" she asked, but her eyes were doing something her smile wasn't."It's going as planned." I kept my voice light. "The launch timeline holds. I'll have the full rollout deck ready by Friday."

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   CHAPTER 4: The Man Who Never Forgets

Caspian’s POV I knew her the second I walked through that door.I had told myself I wouldn't. I had told myself a man doesn't remember one face out of a crowded club, one night out of a hundred forgettable nights, one woman he left before the sun came up. I had told myself a lot of things on the f

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   CHAPTER 3: The Stranger and the Cash

Ana's POV I looked at the floor he wanted me to kneel on.Then I looked at my husband, sitting there so sure of himself, and I almost laughed."No," I said. His smile slipped. "Ana.""I will never kneel to her." My voice was steady now. The shaking was gone, burned clean out of me. "Keep your sign

  • Pregnant For The Wrong Brother   CHAPTER 2: The Woman in My Kitchen

Ana's POV I didn't leave the bedroom for three days. The curtains stayed closed. The phone stayed face down. I laid on top of the covers in the same robe and stared at the light on the ceiling, morning into evening into morning again.Sebastian didn't come home. Why would he? He had somewhere bett
