Wella’s POV

The hospital room was empty.

I stood in the doorway, my chest still heaving from the run, and I stared at the neatly made bed, the untouched tray of food, the thin blanket folded at the foot of the mattress. My mother's shawl was gone. Her slippers were gone. Everything that made this room hers had been stripped away.

A nurse passed behind me. I grabbed her arm before I could think.

"Where is she? The woman in this room—where did they take her?"

The nurse blinked, startled. "The roo

Wella’s POV“I can’t believe you actually said that,” Anna said with utter anger in her voice.“HE needed Wella, and then after using Wella, HE brought Ava back!” Anna raised her voice, “How could you over look the fact that it was the Alpha who was cheating?! The Alpha let Ava take the speech, the title, the respect—everything Wella worked for. And when Wella didn't smile through it, he blamed her for being difficult. When she tried to leave, he trapped her. When she finally stood up for herself, he broke her wrist. You are just like the Alpha, ungrateful after taking all the advantage you needed from Wella!""That's not—""And Theo." Anna pressed on, relentless now. "Theo was innocent. Theo was trying to help her. And Alexander beat him so badly that he's still walking on a leg held together by screws and prayer. You saw the damage. You treated the damage. And you still think Alexander is the one who deserves your loyalty?"Dorian was silent for a long moment. Then he said, his voic

Wella’s POVThe car smelled like Anna's vanilla air freshener and the stale coffee she'd spilled on the passenger seat three days ago, a combination that had become almost comforting over the hours I'd spent waiting. My bandaged wrist rested in my lap, throbbing in time with my heartbeat, and I had counted every crack in the windshield, every smear on the glass, every passing shadow that moved across the hospital parking lot.Anna had gone inside twenty minutes ago. Twenty minutes. It felt like twenty hours. She was supposed to deliver the news and come right back—just a quick word, a formal notice, nothing more. I had rehearsed it with her in the car, the careful phrasing, the professional distance, the way to make it sound like a routine administrative decision rather than the slow, painful severing of the only real friendship I had left. But twenty minutes was too long. Twenty minutes meant something had gone wrong.I didn’t dare look in Theo’s eyes to tell him that he is fired, so

Wella’s POV"Theo." The name came out in a whisper, ragged and broken. "Theo."Anna's hand found my shoulder, steady and grounding. "You could go in," she said softly. "He would want to see you."I shook my head. The movement sent a fresh wave of pain through my ribs, but I couldn't stop. Couldn't stop shaking my head, couldn't stop the tears, couldn't stop the awful, crushing weight of everything I had done to him."No." My voice cracked on the word, splintered into pieces. "No, I can't. I can't do that to him again.""Wella—""I'm poison, Anna." I turned to look at her, and I could see my own reflection in her eyes, pale and broken and hollow. "Every single person who gets close to me gets hurt. Alexander hurt him because of me, but that wasn’t even the worst.I hurt him, by never seeing him, for real.I let him break himself for me, over and over, and I never saw. I never asked. I never gave anything back.""That’s not true, and that’s not your decision to make," Anna said, but the

Wella’s POV"You don't have months because you're not giving yourself the chance to heal!"The therapist's voice rose, sharp with frustration. "This is insane, Theo. You're walking on a leg that should be immobilized. You're coming in for extra sessions that are actively making you worse. And you're still trying to work? What do you think you're proving?"There was a long pause. I could see Theo's shoulders rise and fall with a breath, see the way his grip on the parallel bars tightened until his knuckles were bone-white."I'm proving nothing," he said finally, and his voice was quiet, almost lost beneath the hum of the lights. "I'm trying to get back to where I need to be. My duty is to protect the Luna, and yesterday—"He stopped. I could see his jaw working, see the muscles in his neck straining."Yesterday I stood at the bottom of those stairs and watched her fall, and I couldn't move. My leg gave out underneath me.""Of course you couldn't!" The therapist threw his hands up, clip

Wella’s POV"He's been avoiding me," I said, and my voice sounded hollow, empty, like it belonged to someone else. "He's—" He hates me, and he should. After what Alexander did to him, “Dorian was right, and I’m done taking from him.”“What did Dorian say this time?!” Anna frowned.“Nothing I shouldn’t hear,” I bit my lips for the slip of that name, “He just said Alexander hurt Theo because of me, which was true. Alexander is that possessive.” He saw me as his assesst, and he didn’t like anyone touching his.Anna sighed, “I don’t know what exactly happened between you and Theo, but here is what I do know:”“Theo's lungs were punctured. That's why he's been coughing, why he can barely speak without wheezing. And his leg—" She stopped. Swallowed."The bones in his left leg were crushed. Alexander's boot came down on him again and again. They had to piece the fragments back together one by one, picking the splinters out of the muscle and the marrow. Every day, he walks on those bones. Eve

Wella’s POVThe hospital ceiling was the same shade of white it had been when I woke up, same fluorescent hum, same antiseptic smell that clung to the back of my throat like old guilt.I had been staring at it for hours, counting the tiles, replaying the dream, the garden, the silver pup, the way he had curled into my arms like I was the only safe place in the world. My baby.I pressed a hand to my stomach, still flat, still hiding its secret, and tried to breathe around the terror that had taken up permanent residence in my chest. The door opened, and my heart tightened like instinct. It was only Anna. Her face pale but composed, carrying a paper bag that smelled like hospital cafeteria coffee and something sweet. She set it on the bedside table and forced a smile for me, “The little thing is safe. And no one is going to find out. Now you need to eat something. You passed out for a whole day."My breath caught in my throat. "How—""Dorian helped." Her voice was flat, carefully neutra
