Sara Hayes' POV

It had been three days since I last saw Damian.

The only visitors I'd had were Thomas, who arrived every morning with soup and a fresh cardigan and the same careful, gentle face, and Lucas, who came on the second afternoon.

Lucas had stood at the foot of my bed holding a cream envelope in both hands, like a man delivering a summons. He was so uncomfortable that he couldn't look me in the eye.

"Mr. Kade asked me to bring this, Mrs. Kade," he said. "He thought you might wish to r

  • Pregnant Virgin (Darling please don't leave)   Chapter 76 I am your father

Sara Hayes' POVI was in my room with my feet on three pillows, a half-finished cup of ginger tea going cold on the nightstand, and a book open on my stomach, which made an excellent shelf. The balcony doors were cracked open. I had read the same paragraph four times when the shouting began. It came up through the floor like a drumbeat. A man's voice, raised and ragged, and underneath it other voices, a woman's shrill note.I lowered the book.“Who is shouting?”I swung my legs off the bed with a grunt, got my hands under me, and pushed upright. The room tilted briefly and settled. I padded across the carpet in my socks, pressed my ear to the door, and heard it more clearly."Bring down my daughter, right now! Do you hear me? You want to kill my daughter for me?"My blood went cold.I knew that voice.“What is my father doing here?”I had my hand on the doorknob before I remembered I was in a cotton maternity dress with a stain on the hem and my hair in a lopsided bun. I tucked a loo

  • Pregnant Virgin (Darling please don't leave)   Chapter 75 He doesn't love me

Sara Hayes' POVIt had been a week and two days since I last saw my Damian.I had been home for five of those days. The new housekeeper called me Madam in a voice like a held breath. The new staff looked at the floor when I passed. The kitchen smelled different. Nobody had said so, but I understood that I was living in a house that had been scrubbed of one set of people and filled with another, and that every single one of them had been told, very carefully, not to say anything that might upset me.It was the loneliest I had ever been in a room full of other people. This evening I ate dinner at the long table by myself. I had said goodnight to Thomas. I had gone to the sitting room in my softest cardigan, tucked my feet under me on the big grey sofa, and put on the drama series I had been following for weeks, a ridiculous, over-the-top thing about two sisters, a stolen inheritance, and a man who had come back from the dead three times. I had fixed myself a snack, because Mr. Gabriel h

Damian Kade's POVEntering the Caldwell Enterprises, Lucas followed a step behind me as I entered his office."Damian!" Harrison Caldwell rose from behind his desk with both hands extended. He had lost a little weight since the summer, and his silver hair had been cut shorter. "Right on time, as always. Sit, sit. You know my daughter.""Miss Annabel," I said. She stood from the armchair by the window and shook my hand and smiled."Mr. Kade, how are you and your family?"“We are good, thanks for asking.” I saidWe settled around the low table at the center of the room. A young assistant brought coffee and a plate of shortbread."Now," he said. "Before we talk about concrete and ribbons. How is your wife?"“She's well and resting. Thank you.” I said "Is she? I'm glad to hear it." Caldwell's expression softened. "It's been, what, nearly five months since the dinner? My wife is already quite put out that we haven't seen her since. She keeps asking whether the baby has started kicking."

  • Pregnant Virgin (Darling please don't leave)   Chapter 73 She asked after you

Damian Kade's POVIt had been four days since I last saw Sara.I had slept in this building for four nights, and I had not slept.I was avoiding her. I wasn't busy. I wasn't too busy for her. It's just that I was a coward. I didn't want our marriage to end, hearing her say, she was tired of our marriage, broke something in me.So I stayed away, and I told myself it was a strategy. Let me give her time so that she will think. I sat now in my office, with the morning sun slanting across the black marble floor and a cup of coffee going cold at my elbow.I put down my pen. There was a stack of documents in front of me, all signed, all meaningless. I had read the first line of the top page nineteen times.Hearing her say she wanted out.I closed my eyes.It was funny, in its way. I had spent the better part of a year telling her the marriage was a business arrangement and it ends in a year. But when she said she wanted an out, something in my chest had ripped open like a seam.I was angry

In case you've forgotten the exact terms of what you signed.""Is he coming?""I couldn't say, ma'am.""Can't, or won't?"His mouth twitched. "I don't know ma’am."He put the envelope on my tray table, bowed slightly, and left so quickly.I never opened it, because I already knew what was there.---On the morning I was discharged, the sun was already pouring into the room by seven.I sat on the edge of the bed in the clothes Thomas had brought, a loose grey dress and a soft knit cardi

  • Pregnant Virgin (Darling please don't leave)   Chapter 71 If I hear my name from your mouth

Sarai Vance’s POVMy cheek still hurts. It had been nine days since Damian asked his men to slap me because of that low life, and the bruise had faded from purple to a sickly yellow-green that no amount of concealer fully hid. I had told my mother that night that I wanted her dead.My mother had gripped my wrist, hard.“Calm down,” she had said. “Do not say such things in a car with a driver. And do not rush. You were careless and look where it brought us. I will handle it.”“What is the plan?”“Sarai.” Her eyes had been flat and cold in the passing headlights. “Enough. You will do nothing until I tell you and be patient. I have a plan.”So I had been going slowly out of my mind. That was why I was sitting in a café on the corner of Westbourne Street at two in the afternoon, wearing sunglasses indoors, nursing a coffee I didn’t want.“Honestly, Sarai, I still can’t believe the way he treated you,” Bianca said, for what had to be the fifth time. She dabbed at the corner of her eye wit
