I walk briskly toward her room with Ruby, and I push the door open once I arrive at the doorstep. I stop on my track when I walk into the room and find her sitting on the bed, hugging her knees to herself while having her face buried between them, and crying profusely like she'd just lost someone.

Strangely, I feel this unexplainable pain in my heart, seeing her like that hurts me for a reason I'm clueless about, and I bite my bottom lip. What could be wrong with her? It can't possibly be the bracelet, right?

I squat down in front of Ruby and ruffle her hair.

"Baby, why don't you go to sleep? Daddy will handle this, I promise," I speak to her softly, and she stares at me blankly. She's already close to tears, and I can only wonder what she has done to my kids that made them like her this much.
