Jasper's POV

Davina shot me a dreadful glare, and my wolf growled.

Seems I have pushed her too hard.

“She’s our mate!” My wolf's angry tone gave me a headache.

I shut him out of my mind, but he fought back. I heard a loud ringing in my head, and for a moment, my vision went blurry.

I endured the sharp, throbbing pain, trying to find my way through it. My wolf and I had never been in any sort of disagreement.

This was actually the first time it had happened, and it was because of how roughly I had treated our mate.

It wasn’t intentional. It was just a reflex action. Cassidy’s unexpected return had triggered this reflex.

My jaw tightened as the pain increased. I had to calm him down.

Davina had connected easily with my wolf. It seemed she had already established a bond with him.

After all, he was my wolf. He had to abide by my rules.

“Khan,” I called after him. “You won’t fight me over a mate we just found,” I barked.

Finally, he let go. He stopped fighting.

My face darkened as I looked at Davina. She stood there, innocent and undisturbed by Cassidy’s interference.

It seemed she had more control over my wolf than I expected.

Claiming her as mine would give me peace. But I wasn’t going to break our agreement. We had made a deal.

She had to be the one clinging to me. She had to want me, and I would make her want me.

Cassidy’s face tightened, her confused and questioning gaze lingering on both of us. She wasn’t meant to see this. Nobody was.

The last I knew, she had left the pack after our supposed marriage ritual failed.

She had gone back to the Summit Pack while the elders postponed the Luna ceremony.

Her pack was a few miles away from mine. Seeing her here at this hour meant she must have travelled through the night.

I had no idea she would be back at my pack so soon.

“When did you arrive?” I asked, breaking the awkward silence.

She smiled as she made her way towards me. Her eyes scanned my open chest before shifting back to Davina.

“And this is?” she questioned.

I cleared my throat. “My Royal Healer and my mate,” I barely managed to say, the words passing through my teeth.

She moved closer to Davina, scrutinising her from head to toe.

Her eyes held nothing but disdain and disgust.

Surprisingly, Davina wasn’t intimidated by Cassidy’s actions. She stood her ground, her emotions unwavering.

Cassidy stretched out her hand, and I could feel the tension in the air. “You have dirt on your shoulder,” she said, dusting it off.

Why did I feel like this was a fight between the two women? I couldn’t explain it, but the air suddenly became suffocating.

Cassidy made her way towards me and sat beside me, trailing her fingers across my chest. “I hate pests!” she said loudly.

I had no idea what she was hinting at, but Davina’s indifference indicated that she didn’t care.

Davina remained silent without uttering a word. I raised my eyelids to meet her gaze. Her eyes shot me a deadly, piercing glare.

Why was she still here?

“Leave!” I commanded.

Davina took her equipment and left my chambers.

I smiled. “I had no idea you were back.”

She adjusted her hair, giving me an ‘Isn’t it obvious?’ look.

“Since the Luna ceremony will be happening in two weeks, I felt there was no need for us to stay far from each other. I had to convince my father, and it took a few days before he accepted. I don’t want to stay an inch away from you.” With that said, she placed a kiss on my lips.

I raised my eyebrows sceptically. “Really?”

“Yes.” She nodded.

This was strange. It had taken me years to win her over, and now she couldn’t do without me?

Back then, I would beg her to stay in my pack, but she would turn down all my requests.

Her hands moved beneath my shirt as she leaned in and sniffed me. A soft moan escaped her lips, but I remained unresponsive.

She pulled me closer, seeking more intimacy, but surprisingly, I wasn’t in the mood. I had always longed for her to make such a move, but now that she was finally making the first move, I wasn’t interested.

She frowned. “What’s wrong?”

I could see the anger mixed with sadness on her face. I felt a bit guilty.

“Nothing, really. She had just healed me, and I felt a bit dizzy,” I lied.

She stared into my eyes as if searching for the truth.

“Okay, then. Get some rest. I’ll settle myself in.” She smiled.

All I could do at the moment was nod in response.

“I only came to surprise you, but it seems I’m the one who got surprised. You don’t seem happy to see me. It seems I ruined your moment,” she continued.

I knew she had witnessed the scene, but now I had no words to refute her.

“You shouldn’t feel threatened by her.”

“Oh, really? So explain to me why you haven’t rejected her yet. She’s not supposed to be in this pack,” she said calmly.

This was what I loved about Cassidy. She was always calm, no matter what. She was the best suited for the position of Luna.

She wasn’t easily swayed by her emotions. She weighed every option before speaking. You could never catch her off guard.

I held her hands warmly, sighing deeply.

“Doing so would kill everyone. I have to find a way to peacefully dissolve the mate bond.”

She didn’t seem surprised. Just as I expected, she already knew, but she still had to ask me about it.

I pulled her in for a hug.

“You are my Luna.”

She patted my chest warmly, smiling widely.

“I don’t feel threatened by anyone. It’s your loss if you decide to make such a wolf your Luna.” With that, she kissed my forehead and exited my room.

I stared at her back as she left my room, lost in thought.

I had no idea what was coming over me, but my wolf was silently losing it. It seemed finding his mate had changed him. He was becoming more sentimental, and it seemed he was slowly succumbing to the mate bond.

His feelings were being portrayed through my actions. I had yet to feel her wolf, and this made the whole process complicated.

Khan finally forced his way out, making me frown. I could still feel the anger radiating from him.

“You should never harm our mate. I can tolerate your lover, but if she hurts our mate, I won’t hesitate to kill her,” Khan said in a serious tone.

I froze.

Khan has never been protective of anyone before, so I wondered if it was just the matebond or if something was going on with Davina that I wasn't aware of.

It felt as though he was warning me against myself.
