Chapter 2

مؤلف: Peachy
Mia and I stood in the entryway like rogues trespassing on someone else's land.

Hearing the noise, Gideon's hand stopped.

He stood up, looking guilty, and walked over to take my bag.

"The security system at Vivian's apartment broke." He avoided my eyes. His voice was stiff. "I couldn't find a totally safe place right away, so I’m letting them stay here for a few days."

Stay here?

I stared coldly at the maids rushing up and down the stairs.

They were packing up my and Mia's clothes, violently shoving them into cheap cardboard boxes, and dragging them toward the dark, damp storage room at the end of the hall.

Vivian put down her wine glass and sighed.

But the smugness in her eyes was spilling over.

She was wearing my nightgown.

And she reeked of him—a scent heavily steeped in his Alpha pheromones that belonged to me.

"Cora, I'm so sorry. My constitution has been so delicate since losing my mate. The doctor said I need a room with the best sunlight and a sunroom. I have to ask you to give up the master bedroom."

Before I could speak, a harsh ripping sound came from the second floor.

Toby ran out of Mia's room. He was clutching Mia's most precious First Gen wolf bone carving.

"What a piece of junk!" he laughed. He smashed the fragile, totem-carved bone onto the marble floor. It shattered into dust.

"My ancestral totem!" Mia cried out. She ignored her weakness and lunged forward, desperately scooping up the bone dust with her bare hands.

Because of her defect, she couldn't shift. That carving was her only link to the wolf spirit world!

Gideon's face dropped. He rushed over to help Mia up, his eyes full of pity. "Mia, don't use your hands, you'll get cut! Daddy will buy you a new one..."

"Fine," I cut him off, my voice totally calm. I held my hand out directly to him.

Gideon froze. "What?"

"They can stay." I looked him dead in the eye, saying every word clearly. "But the rent stays the same. Plus, the turf fee for taking the master bedroom and this villa, and my daughter's emotional damage. That's extra."

The hall went dead silent.

Vivian's eyes widened in shock.

Then she shrank behind Gideon, acting like a victim. "Gideon, how could Cora treat us like..."

Gideon's guilt instantly turned into pure, blind rage. He grabbed my handbag off the console table and smashed it onto the floor.

"Cora, have you lost your mind?!" he roared.

His massive Alpha pressure literally shook the house. "Do you have any dignity left as a Luna?!"

I sneered internally.

He let another woman claim my bedroom. Did he leave me any dignity?

"I only care about cash." I met his furious glare without flinching. "You want them to stay, pay up."

"Good! Very good!"

Gideon laughed out of pure anger. He pulled a black card from his coat and whipped it hard at my face.

"Ten million!" he gritted out, his eyes full of disgust. "Take it! Just go spend the rest of your life with your money!"

He grabbed Vivian and Toby by the arm and stormed out, the door slamming shut behind them like a gunshot.

The house fell into a deathly silence. I stood there. My cheek burned with a sharp, stinging pain.

"Mommy... don't be sad..."

Mia's tiny body pressed against mine. She wiped my face with trembling hands. I realized then that he had thrown the card so hard it sliced my lip open.

I closed my eyes and held my daughter tight. The last bit of warmth in my eyes froze completely.

"Mommy's not sad. Once the surgery is done, Mia will wake her wolf and live a healthy life."

My daughter, who once couldn't sleep without her Alpha daddy's tales of wolf legends, drifted off in my arms with tears on her face.

I looked at her knitted brows.

My wolf whimpered in sorrow.

Everything changed after Vivian's Beta mate died protecting Gideon.

Gideon was terrified Vivian would be too sad, so he soothed her with his Alpha scent every night.

Gideon worried Toby would get bullied by other Pack pups for having no dad, so he never missed a single hunting practice.

Time and time again, he abandoned us.

His fated mate. His own flesh and blood.

The day Mia first collapsed from a fever, he was on a private island with them, ignoring my frantic calls for help.

I had to beg a retired pack doctor to come stabilize her.

It was clear now.

This man hadn't been worthy of the title 'Mate' for a long, long time.

I took a deep breath and packed our bags.

I picked up my sleeping daughter and left this broken home without looking back.

We settled into a new place for a week. Gideon never called.

Vivian somehow got my new number.

She sent me a dozen photos. Sun, beach, yachts.

Vivian in a bikini, leaning into Gideon's chest.

Toby riding a jet ski in the shallows of a private island.

Then came a voice memo designed to provoke.

"Cora, so sorry. The Alpha insisted on bringing us to the island to relax. This moonstone pendant is just so heavy, it's really annoying to wear in the water."

The old me would have rushed over and torn everything apart. But now, I just replied lightly, "Good for you."

Vivian's chat showed 'typing' for a long time, but no new message came.

I picked up my coffee, ready to check Mia's surgery list for next month. Just when I thought I finally had peace, ten million hit my account.

The moment I read the memo, my blood ran cold!

I gladly accepted my daughter's pack profits.Back in the snowy town, Mia showed amazing talent for totem carving.Maybe it was her way of making up for her smashed bone collection, but she had a natural gift for this ancient art.I put everything into training her and promoting her on Pack Net.When she was thirteen, Mia hosted a solo bone-carving exhibition in Illusion Moon City. It was a massive hit.Her breathtaking wolf totems shocked the whole supernatural world. At seventeen, her pieces were selling for astronomical prices at top-tier underground interspecies auctions.I took her back to our old homeland and opened an Ancient Wolf Totem Museum. One day, while checking the museum's security cameras, Mia pointed at a blurry figure on the screen."Mommy, look at him," she frowned. "He's always the first to arrive and the last to leave. But he never asks for autographs or talks to anyone."I squinted, and my heart gave a hard thump. It was Gideon. The camera was fuzzy, but I recogni

Gideon's face went dead white. He shook his head in absolute despair, his voice breaking. "No... Mia, I'm your dad... I'm your Alpha father..."But Mia took a step back, gripping my coat tight. She looked at him dead serious. "That's impossible, mister. My father was a hero. He died in battle protecting our pack.""He even came to my dreams to bless me during my surgery." Her tone was firm, without a shred of doubt. "You're just Toby's dad. You have nothing to do with me."Those words hit Gideon like a lightning bolt.He opened his mouth to argue, but nothing came out.I immediately let out a wave of hostile intent, my voice icy. "Did you hear that? My daughter doesn't know you. Get lost."Gideon stared at us, his world utterly shattered. Finally, before I could call the guards, he dragged his broken body away. But he didn't give up.For the next few days, I was on edge. I drove Mia everywhere myself. One night, Mia asked me, "Mommy, why is Toby's dad always hanging around my school?"

Hearing the doctor's words, I let out a bitter laugh.Back in the alley, I told him, "You don't deserve Mia anymore." I never imagined it would become a literal truth. In my daughter's subconscious mind, Gideon the father was completely dead and buried."This is for the best." I looked at my pup with gentle eyes. "A dead hero father is much better than a living, hypocritical traitor."To avoid triggering Mia, I took her far away from that painful continent as soon as she recovered. We settled down in a neutral snowy town up north. No major Pack ruled here. The endless frozen forests were a paradise for free wolves. With the massive rent money Gideon paid me to appease Vivian, plus the cash from selling the relic hall and properties he signed over, I bought a log cabin with a yard and a nice SUV.Life finally found its peace.I took on high-paying jobs restoring ancient wolf relics and bone carvings. Not only did I get back to the work I loved, but I also made a name for myself in the i

"No... it can't be..."Gideon's huge frame swayed. He took the bloody clothes with trembling hands.A thick stack of papers slipped from my arms and scattered on the ground. They were bank transfer receipts. All small amounts from her allowance, ranging from a few bucks to a few hundred dollars."I'm sorry! I was wrong! I was so wrong!" He broke down sobbing. "Vivian blinded me! I thought I owed Civian a life debt. I was just trying to repay his sacrifice and I neglected you! I never wanted Mia to die!""Repay?"I let out a cold laugh. My eyes turned instantly red."You spent ten million to rent my mother's relic hall for another woman's bastard to have a ceremony, but you wouldn't leave ten minutes of surgery time for your own flesh and blood!"I bent down, grabbed the receipts from the dirt, and smashed them right into his hypocritical face."You traded your own pup's life for a bitch's vanity!" I jabbed a finger in his face and screamed, my voice raw. "Gideon, you are not worthy of

The sterile room was completely trashed. Expensive medical monitors lay smashed on the floor.A glaring trail of blood dragged from the operating table out into the cold hallway. It made my stomach churn."Where are they?!" Gideon’s eyes were bloodshot. He grabbed the lead surgeon by the collar. "Where is my daughter?!"The doctor trembled, his voice breaking into a sob. "Alpha, it was Vivian... She used your token and gave a strict order in your name! She forced all the doctors to go check young Toby for allergies. She didn't even leave an anesthesiologist behind... We missed the golden window. The pup’s heart gave out! We lost her!"Smash!Gideon slammed the doctor against the wall. Veins pulsed on his forehead."Find them! Tear this black market apart!" he roared like a mad beast. He remembered Cora’s desperate, tearful begging in the video. A giant fist crushed his heart. In his chest, the mate bond that used to connect their souls was dead silent.Cora had severed it.The agony of

I looked inside. Mia's sterile pod was open. Her vitals on the monitor were dangerously weak. The doctor shook off my hand. He wouldn't look me in the eye and spoke fast. "The Alpha's son ingested wolfsbane. It was a mild exposure, but he's having a reaction. We've all been summoned."My voice bled with despair. Shaking, I pulled the black card from my bag. "I'll double it! I'll pay whatever you want! Please, finish the surgery!"That's when I saw the memo on the transfer text. It was the massive fee Gideon paid to rent out the top medical team."I'm sorry, Luna," the doctor said, his voice full of pity but his actions firm. "We cannot disobey a direct Alpha Command.""My baby is waiting! She's waiting!" I begged, my voice hoarse. "Please!"But the doctors left without looking back. Leaving Mia to die alone on the operating table. My phone dinged. A photo from Vivian.Toby just had a tiny rash on his arm, but he was surrounded by specialists. Gideon was sitting by the bed, gently
