CHAPTER 11 | GHOST MEMORIES

ECHO'S POV

"Echo, Echo... Where are you?" Enzo called and I am usually happy to see and hear from him but not today, I feel so sad and alone in this world.

How, how exactly did I end up like this? What happened to me and why am I even here when I obviously can't interact or do anything tangible?

"Echo, you are here." Enzo noted as soon as he entered my room and saw me. "Didn't you hear me calling? What's wrong, why do you look so dull?" He asked curiously and I am so glad that in this lonely situation, I have someone that can at least see and hear me, it could have been even worse without him.

"My mom, I remember my mom. She will be so sad and lonely without me, I am the only person she has left." I remember that I do call her everyday and I check on her every weekend and now, she will be all alone and there is nothing I can do.

"I'm so sorry but honestly, it's a good thing that you can remember her, it means you are regaining your memory." He pointed out.

"What's the point? What's the point of regaining my memory when there is nothing I can do, maybe I was a horrible person." Maybe I am not as good as I thought I was.

"Why would you say that?"

"Think about it Enzo, this feels like punishment. It's like God is punishing me for something, he is keeping me here as a ghost to torture me because what's my use here? I should have just died like other people and I won't be suffering here and watching life pass me by." Tears ran down my face as it hit me that one day, Enzo might get bored of whatever he is doing here with me and move on with his life and I will be left here alone to suffer even more.

"I am not going to sit here and pretend like I know what you are going through because I don't but I know there is a reason for everything. I know there is a purpose for why God kept you here as a ghost and I am going to help you find it, but first, why don't we go and check up on your mom?" I know that going to see my mom will only hurt me more but I am willing to do it.

"Yes, I will like that." I said eager as I finally stopped crying. "What did you come here to say?" He must have been looking for me for a reason right?

"Yeah, I just finished talking to Laura and she said she will be coming over this evening." I still don't understand how we were friends to begin with because she doesn't seem like a good person.

I have a bad feeling about her and I am worried that Enzo is even getting close to her, I mean I know it's for my benefit but I have a bad feeling about it, I don't like her and I don't want her close to him, she gives me the irks.

"Okay, that's fine but I need you to be very careful and cautious around her, I have a bad feeling about her." I clarified.

"Is that bad feeling by any chance called jealousy because it feels more like you are jealous of me getting close to your best friend."

"First of all, she's not my best friend. My best friend won't steal my identity and secondly, I am not jealous, I am just worried about other terrible things that she can do." I mean, if she can steal my identity as her so called best friend, I am guessing she can do worse things to someone that is not even a friend especially if she realizes what Enzo is trying to do, she can do anything to keep her secret if she has any.

"Fine, if you insist but for now, I will get ready and we can go see your mom before she shows up later in the evening. You know your mom's address right?" He asked curiously.

"Yes I do" The address was actually the first thing I remembered this morning before I even realized who stays there.

"Okay good, I will go and get ready." He made my way out of my room and I felt like getting ready and looking good for my mom but what's the point, she can't see me.

I left my room and made my way to the living room instead to wait for Enzo and thankfully, it wasn't too long before he showed up.

"Shall we?" He asked as soon as he joined me in the living room, looking fresh and well dressed... Oh my goodness, it's such a pity that I am a ghost and I can't really touch him because I can think of a million things we can do together. "Echo!" He called again when I didn't respond.

"I said can we go?"

"Yeah, sure. Let's go." I ramble as I made my way out.

I suddenly got nervous as we got into the car and he drove out, how is it going to feel like when I finally see my mom. Will I be happy or extremely sad? "Turn to the left?" I directed as soon as we got to the junction.

My parents house isn't exactly far away from here, I decided to stay close when I moved out so that I can easily check on my mom every weekend. I didn't want her to feel too alone or miss my dad's absence too much because it was obvious that my dad's death affected her a lot and it's so sad that she has lost her only child too, she's all alone and it's so unfair, I feel really sad.

"Why are you crying?" Enzo suddenly asked and I didn't even realize that I was crying until he pointed it out.

"Nothing, turn to the right and go down the road. It's the last house on the street by the right." I instructed as I tried to think of happy thoughts.

"Look, I know you are probably sad and all, especially because you are about to see your mom and she won't be able to see you, but don't worry Echo, everything will be fine. I will do my best to help you figure things out and I am sure everything will be fine eventually, it might take a bit of time but everything will be fine." He asked me and I desperately want to believe him but it doesn't feel like it.

I don't see the possibility of things becoming okay because I have never heard of a situation where a ghost came back to life but I have seen in movies where someone became a ghost because they had some unfinished business and after that is sorted out, they vanished and I think that might be my situation, I just need to figure out what my unfinished business is.

"Thanks so much Enzo for all your support and help." I said truthfully just as he pulled up by the gate. "You have to input the passcode, it's 0808. That's my birthday." I pointed out as he punched in the pin and the gate opened up.

"Wow, eight of August. It's a few months away, hopefully we would have figured out your situation by then." At this rate, I don't think so but he doesn't need to know.

He pulled up in front of the car and I got even more nervous as I stare at the building, more memories of my childhood came rushing in and I should be happy that I am starting to remember things but it only made me feel worse. "Let's go." He said when he noticed that I didn't make any move to get out of the car.

"I don't know if I can do this Enzo, I don't know if I can see her. It will be too painful if she can't see and touch me, I don't know if showing up there like this will help her or make her feel even worse."

I mean it's already making me feel horrible, knowing that there is a reality that I can be a part of and I am technically here and at the same time, I am not. It's a very horrible feeling and I feel like shit.

"Well we won't know until we try, besides this will give her closure." He has a point, she is probably worried sick about me. "We are here already, so let's go." I reluctantly stepped out of the car and we made our way to the door.

I stood beside him nervous as he knocked on the door... We waited for someone to get the door but no one did, so he knocked again and then we heard footsteps approaching.

"Yes, who are you and how my I help you?"

"Hell no." I murmured as a lady opened the door and I realized who she is. "This is not good."
