It's been six months since I got rejected by my mate; six months since my sister betrayed me and stood in that crowd, watching him, Damon, crown her his Luna.

Six months since the cloaked stranger in the shadows eluded me, like smoke, yet it wasn't Damon's face that haunted me most, nor the way he gently secured his hands on her tummy. The way he pressed his lips to her hair, as if she were the only woman in the world.

Not even the swelling curve of her belly under her dress, proof of the love child they made together.

None of it mattered.

But it was her cold voice, that single word she whispered to me the last time we stood face to face, that made my whole world come crashing down on me.

"Stepsister"

At the time, the word had felt like a weapon, sharp and mocking.

I'd thought it was nothing more than a dagger aimed at my heart, twisting the knife deeper. But the more months passed, the more it festered.

Step-sister, why would she even call me that? Why say it as though it mean

  • REBIRTH OF THE STORMWOLF   Chapter Twelve

The scent was everywhere; the smell of pine was crisp and sharp, evergreen, like when I smelled it last night when my wolf returned. It was overwhelming, but with the mixture of sandalwood, it was warm, rich, and subtle in a good kind of way. It haunted me all through the night; it clung onto the air like a promise I couldn't outrun. No matter how tightly I wrapped the duvet around me, no matter how I pressed my face into the pillow, that scent slipped in through the cracks and messed with my thoughts, driving me to the edge. It had begun last night, the moment my wolf clawed back into me, violent, glorious, and whole, and brought with it a strange scent, and that drives me insane. I was thinking of ways to get a hold of myself when a gentle knock on the door startled me. Before I could answer the door, it was already open with Kristen standing outside and a woman in her fifties carrying a tray of food standing behind him.The scent from earlier suddenly became dominant, almost

They poured from the shadows, like a nightmare, only this time it had shapes and blades. White-eyed, smelling hollow, their bodies too fast and fluid for anything born of this world, Karen went all out to eliminate me. The first wave of attack was bad, but now it was an avalanche. Swarming everywhere like a locust. Within a twinkle of an eye, the world stood still, the wind hissed through the pine, my breath fogged in the cold air, and then he broke loose. She must have found out I sneaked into Blackclaw, hence she sent all her minions to clear every doubt I had about her being a witch."But why?" These questions kept ringing in my head. I mean, she has already taken away everything, so why would she send the legion to kill me? What would she gain? The guards charged; the clash of steel and claws tore the air apart, and snarls ripped through the darkness. Sharp and vicious, The metallic scent of blood hit my senses, mixing with the wrong empty scent of our attackers. Kristen's w

I was at the out of the Redmoon pack, heading towards the market, dazed by my discovery, when I felt something inside me change, which was strange. The air was cool and fragrant with pine, but there was wrongness beneath it, a sour kick that made the fine hairs on my arms rise. I froze mid-step; something was out there lurking in the dark. The woods have their rhythm: crickets, the rustle of leaves, and the distant hoots of an owl, but tonight that rhythm faltered. Like the night animals were all holding their breath. A low crunching came from my right; I turned slowly, my eyes scanning the darkness. "Who's there?" I called, my voice sharper than I intended. The response I got was a deafening silence, then a flicker of movement, too fast for common eyes, but my heightened senses caught it. I caught the shape of a figure cloaked in shadows gliding between the trees. I stepped forward, heat surging in my palms, "Show yourself."A whisper of air brushed my ear, but not alone, and

The crowd blurred around me, faces masked with joy and voices lifted in celebration, but all I could see was him. The figure is standing still in a sea of movement, wearing a cloak to hide his features. Staring directly at me, from across the courtyard of Damon's pack house. I thought it had disappeared earlier in the dark garden, only for it to reappear now. I guess it's all fun for him, chasing him around the pack house like some lunatic. He shouldn't have recognized me, because just like other servants, I was wearing a cap to cover my hair. "Fuck, the nose mask must have given me away."The moment our eyes met I felt something sharp twist inside my gut just like earlier. Maybe familiarity, or recognition. But I swear I haven't seen him before today. I was still trying to figure out its deal when it suddenly turned and ran. I chased after it, praying it's a vengeful spirit after Damon and Karen to kill them both. I slipped through the crowd like a ghost, the layers of my cl

The sun was barely rising from the horizon, but I was already up. No matter how hard I tried, I could barely sleep these days; I kept having nightmares of Karen and Damon laughing at me. I was walking the outskirts of Redmoon pack, the edges of my black coat barely grazing the gravel path. The cold morning wind bit into my skin, but I welcomed the sting. It reminded me of my pains, the reason why I'm still breathing and burning. It's been two weeks since the cliff drama, and I'm still dealing with the aftermath. It is these walks that help keep my demons at bay. I wasn't healing; I was merely evolving, and until then, I just needed to lie low. "You need to see the world through the eyes of your enemies," Rick had said during the period he trained me at the rogue hideout, and I guess now I perfectly understand what he meant then. "If you must win, you must first understand how they think, how they move, and how they lie." I guess this training is one of the reasons we had eluded
