It was late,well past midnight. The dim glow of a flickering streetlamp lit the quiet alley outside a rundown local bar. Inside a small convenience store nearby, William sat alone at the corner counter, nursing a half-empty bottle of soju. His eyes were slightly glazed, his tie loosened, and his shirt unbuttoned at the top. He tapped his fingers against the bottle in rhythm with the low radio humming from the counter.

“Richard and Madison must be living their perfect little life by now,” he muttered bitterly. A dry laugh escaped his lips. “To hell with them…”

Just then, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

He straightened up, clearing his throat and rubbing his face to sober up even just a little. Seeing the name on the screen, Sophia Harper,he blinked in surprise and then quickly answered.

“Hello?”

Her voice came through, slightly slurred but unmistakably hers. “Will… liam. Come pick me up. I’m at the bar near Rosemont Street. You know the one with the blue sign? I… I lost
