Because he is the reason you couldn't hear me before.

I stared at the photograph.

"How?"

My wolf went silent.

"No. You don't get to say something like that and disappear."

Nothing.

I pressed my fingers to my temple.

"Who is he?"

Still nothing.

I was beginning to understand why people argued with their wolves.

I turned the photograph over.

There was nothing on the back except faded ink I couldn't make out in the weak candlelight.

A knock sounded.

I nearly dropped it.

"Mira?"

Rowan.

Of course.

Because he is the reason you couldn't hear me before.I stared at the photograph."How?"My wolf went silent."No. You don't get to say something like that and disappear."Nothing.I pressed my fingers to my temple."Who is he?"Still nothing.I was beginning to understand why people argued with their wolves.I turned the photograph over. There was nothing on the back except faded ink I couldn't make out in the weak candlelight.A knock sounded.I nearly dropped it."Mira?"Rowan.Of course.I had managed to send my husband away twice in one night, and somehow he kept coming back."What now?""Open the door.""I'm trying to sleep.""You're terrible at it."I looked down.Light showed beneath the door.He could obviously tell my candles were still burning.I slid the photograph beneath a folded dress and opened the door just enough to look at him.Rowan had changed. Not into nightclothes. Apparently neither of us was sleeping tonight. He now wore a dark jacket over his shirt."Are you

  • REBORN: THE CURSED LUNA   Chapter Six The Wolf Inside Me

I didn't sleep.I stayed on the floor with my back against the bedroom door, staring at nothing. The voice had disappeared. For ten minutes, I waited for it to return. Then twenty.By the time the candles burned low, I had almost convinced myself it hadn't happened.Maybe returning from the dead did things to a person's mind.I'd died, become a ghost, met something called the Keeper of the Moon Gate, and woken four years in the past.Hearing voices hardly seemed like the strangest part of my week."You imagined it," I whispered. You always doubt yourself.I slapped a hand over my mouth. There it was.A woman's voice.Inside my head. Not my thoughts. Not my imagination.Someone else."Who are you?"Silence.I waited."Hello?"Still nothing.I felt ridiculous.I was sitting on the floor talking to myself on my wedding night while my husband slept somewhere else.Actually, that part wasn't particularly different from my first life."Are you my wolf?"You know me."I really don't."A stra

  • REBORN: THE CURSED LUNA   Chapter Five My Wedding Night

For several seconds, I forgot how to breathe.Rowan stood beside the window exactly as I remembered him.Same black shirt.Same sleeves rolled to his elbows.Same dark hair that never quite stayed where it was supposed to.He even had the small cut across his knuckles from sparring with Adrian that morning.Four years had disappeared from his face. The last time I'd seen him, he'd been kneeling in the rain with my blood on his hands. Now he was twenty-four again.Alive.Untouched by everything that had happened to us."Mira?"He took a step toward me.I flinched.Rowan stopped. His expression changed. Not much. Rowan had always been good at hiding what he felt. But I know him better now.Confusion."What's wrong?"Everything.I looked down at myself. My hands were trembling.I turned them over.No silver light. No blood. No broken skin.I pressed two fingers against my wrist.A pulse answered.Fast and strong.I was alive.A laugh escaped me.Then, without warning, tears followed.I c

Hearing my name shouldn't have frightened me.I'd spent an entire day desperate for someone to notice me.But not him.Not the man who had just discussed my death like an inconvenience."Mira?"He was looking directly at me.I backed away. His eyes followed."No," he whispered. The phone was still in his hand.A distant voice came through it."What is it?"The man didn't answer. His other hand disappeared beneath his coat.I turned to run.Pain ripped through me.Not the memory of pain.Real pain.It started beneath my ribs and spread through my body so violently that I folded over.A silver glow flickered beneath my hands."What are you?" the man whispered.Good question.I didn't stay to ask him.I stumbled toward the conservatory doors. The floor disappeared. So did the walls. For one sickening moment, there was nothing beneath me.Then my feet struck a cold stone.I was back in the hall of floating candles. The silver-haired woman stood behind her desk. She wasn't calm this time.

  • REBORN: THE CURSED LUNA   Chapter Three The Woman I Saved

I wanted to hate Lena.It would have been easier if I did. After hearing her phone call the night I died, I'd already begun rewriting every memory I had of her.Every smile became fake.Every kindness became manipulation.Every time she'd sat beside me at some miserable pack dinner and quietly changed the subject when people started making jokes about my lack of a wolf suddenly had another explanation. She had wanted Rowan.Maybe she'd wanted my place too.But when I found her the morning after my death, Lena wasn't celebrating. She was sitting on my bed, crying.I stood in the doorway of my bedroom and watched her clutch the silver hairbrush Rowan had given me for our second anniversary."I'm sorry," she whispered. Her voice cracked."I'm so sorry, Mira."I stared at her."Are you?"She couldn't hear me.That was becoming the worst part of being dead.I could finally ask the questions I'd been too afraid to ask while alive, and nobody could answer me.Lena wiped her face with her sle

  • REBORN: THE CURSED LUNA   Chapter Two Why He Married Me

Being dead was quieter than I expected. No heartbeat. No breath. No rain soaking through my clothes, even though it was still pouring.I stood beneath the trees and watched Lena put her phone away.He loved her. Those had been her last words. Now I killed her.Not everything went according to plan.Just: He loved her.It should have comforted me.I'd spent four years wanting exactly that.Instead, I wanted to scream."Lena!"She walked straight through me.I spun around."Lena!"Nothing.She hurried back toward the road, where Rowan was still kneeling beside my body.I followed her. There were more people now. Silverpine warriors had blocked both ends of the road. Someone had draped a blanket around Lena's shoulders. She looked small beneath it.Shaken.Almost innocent. If I hadn't followed her into the trees, I might have believed that too.Two healers approached Rowan."Alpha."He didn't move. One of them crouched beside him."We need to take Luna Mira."Rowan's arms tightened aroun
