LENA'S POV

I shouldn't have opened it. Every instinct told me not to. But as usual, I decided to be stubborn.

I opened the door, expecting to see Dante standing in front of my door with something he thought I needed or something he forgot to tell me.

“Dante I said…”

My mouth hung open.

It wasn't Dante, and he wasn't coming to give me any new instruction or rule of staying in his home. It was the last person I was expecting to see and the last person I wanted to see after my very long day.

Jax.

Anger swelled within me immediately and I rolled my eye. “What are you doing here?”

He raised a bag up slowly without saying a word.

I looked at him, and then the bag. “I don't want your gift.”

“I'm not here to bring gifts either,” he shot back at me coldly and I felt a shiver run up my spine.

Gosh, why is he being so brutal?

“Then what is in the bag?” I asked without letting him come into my room.

He looked at me, then at the door apparently waiting for me to let him in.

I sighed, then shifted and allowed him to pass. He walked past me and straight to my bed like it belonged to him.

Well, come to think of it, it does belong to him in some kind of way, after all he's my father's heir.

He sat on my bed and poured out the all contents of the bag on my bed.

I stared at my bed, confused for a second. “What's all these?” I asked.

“Toiletries, clothes, painkillers.”

My ears turned red immediately.

Whatttttttttttt?!!! These staffs actually told him that I was on my period?

My day couldn't get anymore worse.

Just one hour ago I was finally able to roll on my bed in pain after a full day acting so strong.

I rang the bell by the side of my bed and politely asked the staffs for these items. What I didn't expect was for Jax to bring them by himself.

“Why are you the one bringing them to me? I asked the staff not you.”

“They are following instructions.” He shot back.

I rolled my eyes at how overbearing he was being right now. “What instructions are those and who in gods name would give those kind of instructions?”

“I did.”

“What?”

“Everything you need,” he paused for effect. “Everything you ask for goes through me. They're not allowed to provide anything for you. You get it from me directly. My orders.”

I felt like strangling him right there and then but I kept my cool.

“You know,” I said slowly. “For someone who pretends like that night didn't exist, you sure act like a prison guard.” I said with a smug smile.

He smirked. “You might just be in prison but you don't know yet.”

He stood up from my bed and looked around my room.

“And for someone who has only been here for a few hours, you look like you're already planning your escape.” he said in a voice that was slightly impressed. I could tell by that small smile lingering at the side of his mouth.

“I'm not a fool Jax. I know this is a prison.” I shot back. “What I want to know is why are you holding me prisoner? What's the plan?”

His coldness returned. “Nobody called you a prisoner.”

He turned to leave, but I caught his arm.

“Please cut the act. You are not leaving this place until you tell me why my father showed up after ten years, right after my mother's death and right after getting married to your mother.”

He paused, surprised. Then looked at me. “Let go of my hands.”

“No,” I replied firmly. “I know you recognized me at dinner.”

That caught him off guard and his face softened.

“Yes I did.”

“Then why?” My voice broke. “Why did you say all the hurtful things that you said? Why did you act like I meant nothing?”

His jaw hardened.

“That's because you do.” He snapped angrily. “You don't mean anything!”

Something inside me broke at that last word. He doesn't really mean that, I know that he doesn't.

But the lie hit hard, and my grip on his arm hardened.

“So you think that I'm only here because of my father's money?”

He didn't reply to that and that felt worse.

“I was forced here.” I said in a very small voice that was barely audible. “I never wanted to be here.”

“I don't care.” he said once more twisting the knife deeper. “It's better if you forget that night happened. It would be better for both of us.”

I let go of his hands refusing to cry in from of him. He doesn't deserve to see my tears

Never.

His fist curled up into a tight ball and I could tell he was having a hard time as well.

Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe it was never meant to be.

I made up my mind. If he wanted to wipe away the memory of that night with lies that hurt us both then let him.

I turned my back. “You can leave now. Thanks for the supplies.”

I walked towards the door and opened it. He walked towards the door then stopped and grabbed my wrist suddenly.

“Ouch… what re you doing? Let go of my hands.”

His eyes flashed gold and his fangs flashed in the bright room.

“You're hurt.” He growled possessively, my back against the door.

My chest rose and fell in waves. “Wha… what are you doing?”

His fingers rubbed my bruises softly.

“You're hurting yourself.” He growled once more. His face dangerously close to mine.

I swallowed, unable to speak.

He took one long deep look in my eyes studying every feature on my face, then changed his mind just when I thought he wanted to kiss me.

“Goodnight.” He spat and shoved me away from the door.

A loud slam followed immediately he walked out the door leaving me at that spot, shocked and furious at him at the same time.

Fuck! Why does being so close to him make me wet?

I sat down on my bed and buried my head in my hand feeling extremely exhausted by my short encounter with Jax.

“Staying in his house with him is going to be a long long ride” I said to myself then started picking the supplies he brought and taking them out of my bed.

Buried inside a night dress, carefully hidden and barely visible, I saw something that looked like a paper.

I picked up the paper and it was a folded note.

I read it, and my blood ran cold.

“Lock your windows tonight—Jax.”

JAX’S POVThe room was already filled with tension by the time they arrived.Four men sat around the table wearing expressions that immediately irritated me. The type of looks politicians had when they were trying to pretend that they had the solution to a particular problem. I hated politicians solely because of that reason. One of them stood politely to state the reason for their arrival.“Alpha Dante.”Dante nodded once. “Marcus.”Marcus' eyes shifted toward me carefully. “Jax.”I did not answer.Marcus cleared his throat awkwardly before continuing. “We came because the Kingshade situation changes everything.”“Yes,” Dante replied calmly. “We are aware.”“The heir should be transferred.”My expression darkened immediately but Dante stayed extremely calm. “Transferred to where?”“To council protection.”“Absolutely not.” my wolf growled. Marcus continued speaking carefully like he didn't sense the shift in the room.“She is unstable right now. Her wolf is surfacing aggressively

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

JAX’S POVI should have stayed away from her. The only problem was that staying away from Lena had become almost impossible now especially after the kiss, the alley and watching her tear a man apart with blood on her hands and fury in her eyes while her wolf surfaced for the first time.My wolf had not calmed down since then and neither had I.“You are staring again.” Dante’s voice dragged me back immediately.I looked away from the security monitors sharply. “I am not.”“You have been watching the same camera for ten minutes.”I ignored him completely. The screen displayed the east garden where Lena sat near the fountain. She was alone with a book resting open on her lap but she wasn't actually reading.I knew this because she had been stuck on the same page for several minutes.“You are becoming predictable,” Dante said dryly.“I was checking the perimeter.” I replied curtly.“Yes.” He nodded without belief. “The perimeter appears to have long hair and severe emotional issues.”I t

LENA'S POVThe room went quiet immediately.Elias blinked once before leaning back slightly. “I am literally treating her.”“Her injury happened yesterday. You should have come then.”“I know.” Elias nodded slowly. “Your father called me today because apparently injured people see the doctors and you didn't make sense of it to call me.”The room was getting heated as I saw the two grown men argue and bicker about me like two children struggling for candy.“He was wounded yesterday.” I said trying to ease the tension. “And we had just been attacked. We needed to rest.”I turned to Jax. “I just woke up from sleep.” I whispered but he didn't seem to mind. He walked further into the room slowly and the space started to feel too small.“She is done.” he said coldly Elias looked deeply unimpressed. “You are not in charge here.”The silence afterward became very tense because everyone knew that Jax was technically in charge everywhere. My heartbeat sped up slightly as Jax’s eyes stayed fix

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER NINETEEN

LENA'S POV The drive back home wasn't to the estate built like a fortress. It was somewhere outside the city. I frowned. “That's not the way home.”“I know.” He replied. “We have to lay low for now. I'm taking us to somewhere safe. Somewhere that's totally off grid.”I didn't say anything after that because no matter how much I wanted to argue, he was right and I knew it.The estate outside the city was quieter than I expected. No sirens, no alarms blaring through corridors and no guards moving in urgent pairs through hallways that smelled like gunpowder. It was just a large property sitting in controlled silence while the morning came in pale and unhurried through windows that actually had curtains. I heard that Dante came over after dark but I was too weak to go out and meet him. I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at my hands for a long time.My knuckles were slowly healing the way Jax said they would while my wolf figured out how to work properly. Small cuts from the crash

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

LENA’S POV The rain kept falling hard enough to blur the entire city around us. I tightened my grip on the motorcycle while my pulse slammed painfully against my ribs. “Who shot him?” I shouted over the storm. Jax kept scanning the rooftops behind us carefully, his body tense against mine. “I do not know.” That answer terrified me more than the gunfire because Jax was the kind of man who usually knew everything. The motorcycle sped through another flooded street while thunder cracked violently above us. My breathing still had not recovered from the tunnel crash or the biker. Or the fact that someone unknown had just saved our lives. Jax suddenly grabbed my waist tighter. “Take the next right.” I obeyed immediately. The streets here were narrower and darker, and most of the shops looked closed while rainwater flooded heavily along the sidewalks. For one brief second, I thought we had finally escaped. Until headlights appeared ahead. My stomach dropped violently. Three b

  • RISE OF THE BIKER QUEEN: Her protector, Her ruin   CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

LENA’S POVAnother shot cracked through the warehouse and Jax reacted instantly. His hand grabbed my wrist roughly before pulling me lower behind the metal containers and another bullet slammed into the wall above us.My heartbeat exploded painfully against my ribs.“They found us again?” I whispered in disbelief.Jax did not answer immediately. His entire body changed beside me. Every muscle looked tense and alert like a predator seconds away from tearing something apart.Another shot rang out and this time, it was too close.“They are sweeping the perimeter,” he said quietly. “I think there are at least three of them outside.”My stomach dropped. “How do you know that?”“I can hear them moving.”“Right.” I rolled my eyes.He has wolf hearing. The reminder hit strangely considering how normal all of this insanity was beginning to feel.Jax reached behind one of the crates and pulled out another gun before handing it to me.I stared at it like it was poison. “Absolutely not.”“You he
