I knew it wasn't long until they found us, our Kingdom, my kingdom was taken from me, the only legacy my father adored, and now, I was brought to the home of the king who destroyed that legacy.
Everything I had worked for went down the drain. It's been seventy-five days, and I was still tucked with a few of my maids. We were chosen to do hard chores, wash the dishes, wash sheets and curtains, mop the floors, and sort ingredients for the king. I had hope, hope that the king would come for me. After all, he had come for my kingdom.I once saw King Kyler when he visited my father during a festival. He was flattering and kind, but he took my legacy away. That's how kings are. One minute they side with you, and the next minute, they are against you. I knew the ways of the royals; after all, my father built his legacy the same way. It's a power that makes Kings powerful. A weak kingdom was just prey to stronger kingdoms."Your Majesty, I haven't seen Isabelle yet," Kia whispered, dropping a basket of clothes beside me."What? We need to know if she is safe," I said. Kia shook her head."I have looked around, no news about her..." she replied. I nodded and forced a smile, inhaling in and out.Isabelle Teagan, a trustworthy servant of mine, the day we were brought in, she was separated from me and the rest of us, no word from her, no one knew where she was, and she vanished without a trace. The guards who served me were locked in dungeons, and some were enslaved for hard chores.I wondered, at times, if she was safe, Isabelle had saved me in so many ways a Queen could be protected, she was one ready to die for me, and I wanted to keep her safe, even until now."Your Majesty!" Sophie whispered, another servant of mine. She had the lightest shade of ginger hair, almost like Isabelle, fair skin, and golden eyes. She immediately fell to her knees, looking around before turning to me."What's wrong?" I asked. Panting and unable to speak, Sophie stared at me."I found-found... I found Belle, your highness," she barely whispered."Carry on with your work!" One of the guards yelled. Kia immediately continued while Sophie and I stared at him. Once he was distracted again, she continued speaking."Where?" I asked, curious.Suddenly, her expression changed, and she bit her lower lip worriedly, "Actually, your Highness... I am not sure she is the one, but I saw her hair, and- I-i."I glanced up and down at her, and her gaze shifted to Kia, who looked away quickly. Something was off. I had to ask."Is she dead?" I asked. Sophie swallowed. And seconds later, she shook her head slightly, still wearing a troubled face."No, the thing is, Your Highness, Isabelle is the king's bride, Isabelle, Your Highness, is having dinner with the King right now as we speak," She said. I fell numb, and I bet my brain did, too."What?" I barely said out, my eyes blinking a thousand times at her words, my chest pondering, goosebumps engulfing my rough skin, and the waters I had my hands in became too cold."She was dressed in royal silk, her skin glowed, and her hair was so silky I couldn't recognise her even. She looked so beautiful," I could feel the bitterness in Sophie's voice."The King chose his bride well. She's a goddess. I felt the texture of her red hair today, and I have never felt anything so smooth. Her skin was too beautiful for me to touch. Ayn and Betty are so lucky to serve her. I heard the king is so in love, I could understand,""Did you hear her speak? Her voice is gold," another said.My eyes lit up at the two ladies speaking, tears gathered in my eyes; what could become of me if Kyler had chosen his bride? As I turned my head towards their direction, I shivered."I bet her old queen isn't useful. She must be lucky to be chosen," she sighed jealously."Imagine seeing the king naked," one of them whispered, and they giggled. "Oh, her queen is doomed for, bet she is nothing now, no kingdom, no special life," she took a sharp breath of realisation, "Do you know what she is doing now?"Anger and rage engulfed me, the zeal to tear them apart, I glared at them furiously, and suddenly, Sophie's sudden stance caught my attention."Little whores!" She rushed over to the blonde, grabbing her hair, and the dark-haired, she also grabbed. They yelled, holding their hair and pulling against them.Kia got up also, and they began to fight each other. I watched, but my mind had zoned off. I thought of the times when Isabelle was a teenager when I saved her from dying at the market that hot afternoon, and she thanked me so much and even offered to serve me.Letting her serve me was the biggest mistake of my life. She was beautiful, down-to-earth gorgeous. Isabelle had men sending her flowers and gifts even as a servant girl. Whenever we went on a trip together, people assumed I was the serving girl, this made me jealous, but I concealed it. I remembered the night I took a knife against her while she slept. That night we snuck out of the Palace to see my Declan, a Knight and my lover, but he confessed he had approached me because he couldn't come to Isabelle. I was filled with bitterness, anger and the urge to murder her.Once again, Kyler had approached my Kingdom because of Isabelle. Maybe if I did then, Kyler would have chosen me as his bride now."How dare you speak against my Queen that way? What did you say?!" Sophie screamed, beating up the blonde that her body had turned red.The door opened, and guards rushed in while I sat quietly on the floor, stupefied."Victoria," I gasped at the sound of my name, looking in the direction. An older lady stood in a green dress, hands crossed at her front. "Come with me. Her Highness seeks your presence," she said,Isabelle, I knew it was she. How dare she summons me? I clenched my jaw tightly, glaring at her."Take her," she ordered. I quickly reached for the knife beside me and stuck it in my boots."No!" Kia and Sophie yelled, but I looked at them, shaking my head, and they understood it was fine.I have one more chance, one more chance to kill her. Maybe if I did, I would be chosen.Seventy-five days stuck in a very fancy room, the bed was huge, just like the ones Princess Victoria had back in our Kingdom, the sheets were silky, and they seemed to be made of the finest material. I could barely sit on this expensive bedding. The bedside lamp also looked expensive, and the curtains were out of our league. I mean, my Kingdom, Lakes was a small kingdom not so wealthy, so we didn't have lamps like this or rugs made of real bear skin. The dresses were that Princess Victoria's, and I had always admired them when I cleaned. Servants like me came in daily with rich meals, tasty wines, and the most delicious: the best fabrics, clean sheets and beautiful slippers and shoes. But none dared speak to me. I had showers three times a day, and they were days I bathed with milk or rose water only. My red hair was brushed and dressed every day after my showers. Sometimes, I wondered how my mistress was treated if I was treated this way because only royals or those in top position
"It is a common tradition, but she's not my bride; you are." "I am?" I asked with a low chuckle. If this were a dream, I'd like to wake up from it quickly. I lowered my head and rolled my eyes, "How can I be your bride? I am not even Queen," I said. "I think you meant she is," I finished. He stared at me with amusement flashing all over his face, a smile that looked seductive yet lovely. He had the look of someone in love. I have never been looked at that way, except one time, three years ago, in the dark forest. Finally, he cleared his throat and pulled a chair for me."Let's talk over dinner," he offered."No," I replied immediately, lowered my gaze and held my hands together, "I dare not," I said."Isabelle,""I can not go against my Queen. It's-" he breathed loudly and slowly released the chair. One step, my heart skipped causing me to take action backwards, twice... my breath seized."I don't think you understand, Love... or need more confirmation? Perhaps," I could feel his
Being king isn't always fun. There was everything I needed, but there wasn't always spare time cause in my spare time, I took classes from Kesem.Kesem and I had always been close. His father was the former general for my father, and now he was my general. Kesem was the best swordsman Yodora had and the best Archer."Well, well, if it isn't the very famous King," He said as he saw me approach. I ignored him and walked to get my bow and arrow, and a quiet sigh escaped my lips."I guess you've heard," I turned to him. Kesem lowered his bow and chuckled briefly before walking to where I stood."You captured a Kingdom, chose the Queen's servant instead of the Queen, and you expect her to be so pleased, I'd have splashed you my wine instead," He said, laughed, but began to move backwards when I threatened to stab with my arrow. "I was only being truthful. You're quite an asshole, Your Majesty," he finished.I took a deep breath and remained silent. "Maybe you're right, but -" "There's no '
When I opened my eyes, I was in the same fancy room. I didn't die after all. Kyler's people rushed in when they heard Victoria scream. It's a little disappointing. My death would have meant Kyler marrying Victoria, but somehow, I am grateful to be alive. How selfish. I took a deep breath and tried to sit up, but my sides hurt, and I let out a low, soft growl."Your Highness," I heard. The voice startled me. It was Ayn. She immediately rushed to me, and behind her was Betty. "Call Doctor Kim," she said to Betty, and she nodded, leaving the room before I could stop her."You didn't have to," I said, my lips dry, I swallowed, and I laid back. Each time I tried to speak, I felt the pain at my side. "I'm sorry, Your Highness," Ayn said, bowing, hands crossed at her front. "I should have known better," she fell to her knees, which startled me, "I promise to protect you and never leave your side," she said. Her action reminded me of when I said the exact words to Queen Victoria. My breath s
"Marry me," I said, brows raised, accompanied by a smirk. "Marry me, Isabelle. Then I'd spare her,"I wasn't expecting her to say yes. And, of course, she didn't. She laughed. She's unpredictable. Who would have thought she would laugh? She was begging with tears, but I guess I made her laugh. She paused and groaned, holding her side. Ah, her wound, I didn't remember that. She took a deep breath and glared at me. Oh my goodness, I forced myself not to take a step backwards. She looked like she was going to nod to me.What can I say? She looked extremely beautiful when angry but a burst of sunshine when she smiled."Why should I? It would be best if you married Queen Victoria, don't get me wrong. I didn't come here to strike a deal. I am just asking you not to behead her. She has done nothing wrong," she said. I couldn't believe my ears. Wasn't she begging seconds ago? Somehow, this lady leaves me speechless."That was an option. You need to do something for me to let her go, I don't w
Who thought he would kiss me back? His hands around me feel so strong, and I have no idea why I can't break this kiss. Each step he takes causes me to move backwards until I rest against the table. His hands leave my waist to my neck, pulling me closer. He tastes like the wine he had, making my head spin the way he holds me. Every move, his lips against mine, soft yet demanding, and when he takes a breath, he inhales me. It makes me drunk, dizzy. The way he pulls on my lips, taking me. I don't want him to stop, but he does.He places his hands on my head, holding me gently. He swallows, and his eyes meet mine. "You should rest. It's late," his voice is raspy as he tries to catch his breath."Your-" I stop when he glares at me. I thought he was going to give me a reply."Goodnight, Isabelle," he licks his lips slightly, turns around, heading towards the door, it opens, and he disappears. I swallow, resting on the table. WHEN I ARRIVE in my room, Ayn and Betty are standing by the door.
Marrying a king the following day was absurd, but it was happening. I was walking down the aisle to the king of a mighty nation. Who thought that would ever happen to me, me becoming queen and Victoria becoming a royal guest? He looked more nervous than I was when he reached for my hands. I took them, and he pulled me gently to stand before him."You look stunning, heavenly," He mouthed, but I stared at him instead. I could never tell him how breathtaking he looked in that tuxedo. His brow hair was styled perfectly, adding to his charming look.Charming, yes. This man was the most gorgeous man I have ever seen, so fine. And whenever he complimented me, it made my heart skip. "Do you take Kyler Castiel to be your loving husband, in sickness and health..." Word faded, and I began searching for Victoria in the crowd. I found her staring at me."Hey," Kyler's finger brushed mine, and I looked back at him, "Just me, nothing to worry about," he whispered. "Yes, I do," I said, staring int
Kyler seems to keep to one tradition, having the first dance at the reception ball. It was awkward, and I didn't know how to dance, and Ayn taught me a few steps at the last minute. If someone weren't hurrying to begin the wedding ceremony, I might have had more time to practice. I am very sure he can already feel my sweaty palm. All attention is on me, every eye in this room, from the serving girls to the maid, to the lords and their wives. It gives me anxiety, and I must not ruin my first dance with the king."Relax, I got you," I heard whispers as we walked to the dance floor. It's Kyler beside me. My hand is locked in his, and he is holding onto me gently.A little spin, and he pulls me closer to his body. I gasped, staring at him. I can feel his hands grabbing my waist, and his stares are warm until his hand moves down, too close to my butt. My breath seizes, and I release breathing heavily.A step, I miss and step on his shoes. "You gotta let me lead, Love," he says, giggling so
