The house felt different the next morning.

Not fixed, not healed, but something warmer drifted through the cracks, like the faintest shift in weather before a new season.

Arielle stood in the kitchen doorway, blinking in slow disbelief.

Damian Blackwood, the man who hired private chefs, who considered cooking “a survival skill he outsourced” was standing at the stove in sweatpants and a black T-shirt, flipping something in a pan.

He looked… human.

And alarmingly attractive.

She cleared her throat. “You’re cooking?”

Damian turned, a spatula in hand. “I was hoping you’d leave before you saw this,” he admitted flatly.

She snorted. “It’s a little late for that.”

He gave the smallest, reluctant smile, Not perfect, not polished, A real one.

And it hit her, this man rarely smiled, and when he did, it felt like something dangerous was blooming in her chest.

“I didn’t know you could cook,” she said, stepping inside.

“I can’t,” he answered, flipping the omelet again. “But Emma ment

Damian didn’t sleep that night. Not really. Every time he closed his eyes, he felt the ghost of Arielle’s breath against his chest… or the warmth of her lip beneath his thumb. It rattled him more than he’d ever admit. He had touched her before, accidentally, reluctantly, in moments that demanded something raw. But that moment was different. He hadn’t been angry. Or desperate. Or trying to stop her from walking away. He had simply… wanted to. That terrified him more than losing any boardroom battle ever could. By the time dawn broke, he was already showered, suited, and leaning against the island counter with a mug of untouched coffee. Arielle padded into the kitchen quietly. Her hair was pulled into a soft bun, her eyes still sleepy, lips flushed from biting them nervously. The same lips he’d touched. “Morning,” she whispered. Damian’s fingers tightened on the mug. “Morning.” They held each other’s gaze for one charged second too long. Then she looked away, pretendin

As the door clicked shut behind Arielle, sealing her inside with Damian’s sleepless eyes and the tension that still clung to the air from last night. She stood just a few steps inside the living room, her duffel bag slung over her shoulder like a declaration. A reminder that she had left… and could still do it again. Damian didn’t move, didn’t speak. He simply watched her, dark circles beneath his eyes, his shirt rumpled, his usually perfect posture slightly slumped. He looked like a man who had paced holes into the floor while waiting for her. “Arielle,” he said quietly. Her heartbeat stuttered, but she forced herself to stay steady. “I said I want to talk.” “I know.” His voice was low, almost hoarse. “And I’m listening.” She didn’t trust him. Not fully. Not after the way he’d spoken to her, the way he’d dragged her out of his company, the way he’d called her a liability. A word she felt still bruising the inside of her ribs. “I meant it,” she said sharply. “I couldn’t stay h

The elevator doors were seconds from closing when a hand shot through the gap.Damian’s hand. The doors slammed back open with a metallic jolt.Arielle froze, her duffel bag heavy on her shoulder, her breath caught somewhere between her ribs and her throat.Damian stood there, shoulders tense, tie loose, eyes burning with something raw and unguarded, something he didn’t know how to hide fast enough.“Arielle.”His voice wasn’t cold this time.It shook. She swallowed hard, gripping her bag tighter. “Damian, move.”“No.” just a simple word, a dangerous one at that.He stepped inside the elevator, forcing her backward until her spine brushed the cool metal wall. He didn’t touch her, he didn’t dare, but the air between them tightened until it felt like pressure on her skin.“You’re not leaving,” he said quietly.Arielle lifted her chin. “You don’t get to decide that.”His jaw flexed. “I know that, I know I can’t control you. But”“But you’re trying,” she snapped. “Like you always do.”His

The penthouse was too quiet. Too still. Arielle stepped inside, Emma is with Liam at the moment and the silence wrapped around her like cold air. She dropped her keys on the marble counter at the entrance of the house and exhaled shakily. She had replayed the scene at the company the entire drive home, Damian pulling her, yelling, dragging her out as if she’d stepped into a fire. Her pulse still hadn’t settled. She set the thermos on the counter, for the second time that day, untouched, and sank onto the couch. Not even ten minutes passed before the elevator chimed. Damian stepped into the house like a storm in a tailored suit, jaw locked, tie loose, eyes dark and carved with exhaustion. He shut the door harder than necessary, the metallic clank shuddering through the room. “Arielle.” Just her name, But it sounded like a warning. She stood slowly. “You are here, so early?.” “No,” he said coldly. “I came home because you didn’t listen.” She blinked. “Excuse me?” “I told you

  • RUTHLESS HEARTS COLLIDE    CHAPTER 24 — Sabotage at the Company

The Blackwood enterprise felt different the moment Arielle stepped through its towering glass doors. The last time she was here, the lobby hummed with efficiency, heels clicking, hushed phone conversations, sleek suits moving like synchronized machines. Today, however, the atmosphere had a strange tension, a stiffness that crawled across her skin. She clutched the thermos of ginger tea she brought for Damian. He had left the penthouse before dawn without a word, not even the cool, distant glances he usually gave her. Just silence. After the chaos of the past few days, the scandal, his defense, Emma’s surgery, Valerie’s intrusion, she could no longer tell where she stood with him. But she knew he was exhausted, And angry, Not at her, she hoped, Mostly at his uncle. Severin Blackwood. A man she’d only heard about in sharp fragments, like broken glass, Wealthy, Ruthless, Dangerous, And for some reason, obsessed with Damian’s marriage and the Blackwood inheritance. “Ma’am?” the fron
