Elliot's POV
I sat on the sand, watching the horses run free on the ranch. It felt nice and quiet to be in the open. It had been two days since I made the call. Zia no longer had time for me. She acted differently and smelled of a different perfume anytime she came back from her business meetings or whatever she called it.
I noticed her spy, Pamela, wasn't giving as much information as before. I could only guess she had been discovered and changed sides, or she had other plans with Zia.
I checked my phone and dialled the number my Intel had sent me. Of course, this was an untraceable call. It rang, and he picked.
โThat's odd. I was expecting him to be more difficult,โ I thought. I had gotten
Ziaโs POVโCling clang,โ my heels clattered against the tiled floor like a metronome marking the time. I paced back and forth across the room. I stopped for a bit to check the time on my phone. I didn't like stress, and I was doing just that. My exotic designer attire, made of a sleek black Versace dress with intricate gold embroidery, shimmered on my body, nicely fitted to show my curves. Elliot sat on the plush sofa, doing nothing and being useless, sipping his wine nonchalantly. How could he be calm while I was not relaxed? He looked away from the glass in his hand and stared at me with a mixture of amusement and annoyance.โWhat?โ I asked in disbelief.โZia, darling. Can you sit down for a bit? You're making a lot of holes in the floor.โ Elliot said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. I spun around, angry at his words. โShut up, Elliot!โ I snapped, my voice echoed off the walls. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing and took another sip of his wine. I continued to pace back and
Zia’s POVWith burning anger, I stormed into my home office, slamming the door behind me. I let out a scream, showing my frustration. It felt better after I did that, and I paced back and forth, my mind racing with the thoughts of Elliot not falling for my wimps. He used to be so obedient. What had gotten into him?My feet gave way, and I fell to the floor. “ouch,” I growled. “It's all his fault.”I rose from the floor, dusted my dress, and collapsed into my chair, exhausted and angry at everything. “This is not my day,” I thought.“Elliot, what exactly are you playing?” I asked no one. My thoughts w
Elliot's POVโWe? You honestly expect me to believe you have my best interest. Share what company? Zia, I know you. You're selfish as hell, and you're just looking for a scapegoat, but I will not be one.โ I replied to Zia with a cold look and walked out on her. Once I got to my room, I laughed, not because I felt used, but because she was more stupid than I thought. Did she think her plan would go through? Without wasting time, I dialed a number. โMorning, boss.โ He answered.โYou did well with all the drama. I'll have the balance sent to you. Do well to keep a low profile.โ I said with a relaxed mind. โOf course, boss.โ The receiver responded and hung up. Zia thought she was so clever to double-cross me. She had no intention of helping me clear my name. I had seen her through the crack in her office door talking on the phone. For a person who loved to scheme, she wasn't fast to catch on to everything I did. I ruined her phone to have enough time to get someone repaired, and I ha

ToucheElliot's POVโI wonder if you'll be able to talk if your tongue is cut off,โ Zia snarled. I stopped smiling as I noticed the men turn their gaze to me. โBully,โ I murmured and walked out of the room, climbing the stairs to my room.โElliot!โ Zia yelled. โWhat did she want this time?โ I thought and shrugged my shoulders. Her heels kept making clunking sounds as she walked up the stairs, and with a huge force, she pushed my door open. โYou!โ She yelled. I looked at her like she had lost some screws in her brain. โYou're behind this, aren't you?โ She asked, her eyes flashing daggers at me. โMe?โ I queried, surprised at her outburst. โAnd where are your manners? Shouldn't you know before entering?โโThis is my house, and I can come here anytime and anyhow I want!โ Her voice gave me the chills. โYou're never going to stop reminding me, huh? Some rich helper,โ I answered and went back to ignoring her. โElliot! Listen to me. I am talking to you!โ Her voice now raised in high pi
Elliot's POVโHow long do we have to wait? It's getting late, and we need her here before she makes other plans,โ Zia's voice spoke behind me. She was pacing again. Why did she have to be so impatient every time?I adjusted my gloves and cleaned all fingerprint traces I might have made. โBe patient, Zia. Don't you love suspense?โ I asked.Zia rolled her eyes and spoke coldly. โRight now, I don't need that. I need her here, begging for her life. I just eliminated two problems, and she won't be the third.โโSomeone get me a phone,โ Zia demanded and eyed me suspiciously, her hand outstretched.โWhat are youโฆ?โ I sighed as I realized what she wanted me to do. โYou want me to make the move.โ She said nothing and dialed a number. I raised an eyebrow and stretched my hand to collect the phone. โWhy? You're scared?โ I asked, playing along with her charade. โWeโre in this together. Besides, I need to trust you more,โ Zia responded in a fake sweet voice. I nodded, understanding her game. โOk
Rayne's POVThe sun's warmth peeked through the glass windows, waking me up. I stretched my arms and yawned. My hair was a tangled mess like Anna from Frozen. My hair never let me have a sweet and complete beauty awakening for once. My pajamas were wrinkled from a night of tossing and turning because I couldn't sleep. Nathan had to cuddle me before I could let him rest in peace. I swung my legs over the side of the bed, another yawn escaping my lips. My feet softly planted firmly on the ground. Nathan was still fast asleep, making light snores. His chest rose and fell with each gentle breath. He always looked handsome with his thick hair, and his jawline made me want to purr. โGod, I married a fine man,โ I whispered, and he smiled in his sleep. Was he awake? โNathan,โ I whispered to him, but he was still asleep. I didn't want to disturb him, so I gently slipped out of bed, put on my feather-soft slippers, and went to the garden. I needed the fresh air and gentle breeze to clear my
Rayne's POVโAre you ready, babe?โ Nathan asked, briefly taking my attention from the files with evidence of Ziaโs shady deals. Dad had smartly made multiple copies, or I would have resigned to my fate. โYes, I'm ready,โ I answered, and Nathan picked up the files, clutching them at once with the recordings Pamela had provided us. โGood. You look tense. I'm going with you,โ Nathan spoke softly to my ears, and I nodded. The drive to the police station brought more tension than the relaxation I hoped for. I kept letting out gasps of breath. Nathan held my hand to calm me. โI don't know why I am nervous,โ I said between laughter. โIt's fine, sweetie. Everything is going to be okay. Scared?โ He asked, stroking my hair.I nodded, remembering the past incident almost costing Elvis and me our lives. Elvis was off duty today and was fully recovered. โIt's okay. I'm here for you. Nothing's going to happen to you. I promise,โ Nathan's soft voice sang to my ears. We arrived at the police st
Nathan's POVMy heart raced wildly as I ran up the stairs with Jack and Alex behind me. We reached the rooftop, and my heart sank as my worst fears were confirmed. A lady lay unconscious on the floor and I walked slowly to the body scared it was Rayne but it was Pamela. I felt bad but hoped she was still alive. I looked up to see a masked figure dressed in a black suit pointing a gun at someone. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Rayne shivering with fear at the gun pointed at her. โHey, let her go!โ I shouted, finally getting the attention of the masked person. The figure looked at me and back at Rayne and slowly removed its mask revealing a long hair flying with the wind. It was Zia. She had a wicked grin and spoke with a sinister tone. โOh, my darling. You're just in time to witness the end ofโฆthis bitch.โI walked cautiously to her so as not to make her shoot. โHow did you get in here?โ I asked.Zia chuckled and answered calmly. โYou're not the only one with spies, Nathan. I've
Rayne's POVI pulled up to Rayne's house, my second home. Nathan and I were getting off on the good side. He was never that bad if I was being honest. I was just jealous. It was now a habit to spend the weekend with my biological family. Many times Dad had asked me to come stay with them but I couldn't abandon my adoptive parents and he understood.I planned on taking Rayne on a sibling date. I was going to live up to my big brother's expectations since we both missed growing up in each other's lives. Her kids were my kids and I couldn't have enough of them. I had a little chat with our father while Rayne dressed upstairs in her room. When she came down dressed in a lovely casual top and jeans with a baseball cap, I cheered because we had unknowingly worn the same thing.Janet crawled up to me, and she lifted her body making an attempt to stand but her feet wobbled and she fell but I caught her in time. She giggled and raised her hands up for me to carry her. Nathan came by and after
Ziaโs POVI didn't say much and let Lucinda do her stuff. She presented the paperwork from the court to the head officer and I was free to go. Nothing felt better than leaving the mental hospital. It was a breath of fresh air. I had all sorts of emotions come to me. It was a mix of relief, anxiety, and uncertainty. Lucinda let me into her car and flashed me a sly smile. โGet in,โ she said with an up tone. โWe can catch on what we have missed on the way. I want to know everything.โ I scoffed and entered the vehicle. โYou wish, old witch as if I would ever tell her anything. Like I would ever tell you anything. You deserve nothing but total hatred from me,โ I thought, faking a smile at her. She drove as I sat in the car and the image of the mental hospital gates getting distant made me want to fly to the moon. I didn't trust her so I let the questions fly around to be sure. โHow did you know I was locked up in an asylum?โ I asked, my eyes fixed on her body movements to detect if sh
Ziaโs POVMy body grew numb as I lay in the cold room. My mind became foggy as I Lost my sense of time. I hoped Sarah was able to make it far away. She could always find a way to help me but how she would go about it bothered me. My teeth chattered uncontrollably and I couldn't feel my fingers or toes. White smokey gas came out of my nose and mouth anytime I breathed out in my vain effort to warm myself. I clutched down to the side of the room, with my hands folded across my knee.I was about to give up and pray for death so I could end it all, but the door creaked open and a worker stepped in. I raised my head and he looked at me with disgust. There was no hint of flinch of pity in his eyes. โWell, well, well. Look at what we have here,โ he said, mocking my situation. โIf it isn't the little troublemaker? How do you feel? Do you want to escape or perhaps you want to create another show?โI shivered and tried to maintain eye contact. Every time I tried to speak, my mouth felt dry and
Ziaโs POVSarah and I exchanged looks and began laughing. When we were tired of laughing, we started working. I began brushing the dust and dirt away while Sarah mopped the room. We worked for nearly two hours and the room was almost completely clean. I wiped the sweat on my forehead with the back of my hand. We rested a bit as we finished the work. Sarah lay beside me panting. I whispered to her. โWhat do you say about getting the hell out of here?โโYou don't mean..?โ Sarah whispered back, her gaze still fixed on the ceiling. โYeah, leave her for good,โ I answered. โHow are we supposed to do that? The hospital thinks we are crazy and it would take a long time to convince them that we are sane enough to be discharged, we came here because of a crime,โ Sarah replied. โI wasn't talking about convincing anymore. And for all I know, I am pretty sure they can tell we aren't crazy. We have to escape,โ I said confidently.Sarah shivered and sat up immediately to think. โThat would be
Ziaโs POVI stood from my seat and approached her slowly with caution. The ranting and noisy chatter from the other patients didn't stop me. I got to her table and carefully sat on the opposite seat so as not to aggravate her in case I was wrong. โHi,โ I said, smiling. I looked around to make sure none of the nurses, doctors or any officials were watching. โI'm Zia,โ I said, giving her my hand for a polite handshake. She looked at me with a hint of curiosity then at my free hand and she slowly let out her hand and shook mine. โHey, I'm Sarah and I am not crazy.โ She said calmly but in a happy voice. โGlad to see someone else has their head right. I was worried you wouldโฆโ I said, but was unable to finish the words, afraid it would come off as offensive to her. โKoo Koo. Nuts missing and screws flying. Nah, I'm fine. I just act along sometimes so I get to be left alone and not poked with annoying needles all the time,โ she explained. She was a chatty one and I liked that. I needed
Ziaโs POVThe prison room was cold as I was alone in my room. I glanced at the toilet from my small bed. The bed was only large enough to carry only me. I felt devastated, angry at Rayne but pity for myself. How did I move from the queen of the business world to this? And Elliot? That bastard had betrayed me. I had betrayed him first but it still didn't give him the right to leave me like this.I had spent a month in this disgusting cell, the prison room was neat and I was lucky for someone to pay for me to stay alone after a week of torture and bruising from the other prison mates. I had begged the warden for a phone call to call my Dad, Rayne's father but he didn't respond to any of my calls. Maybe, it was Dad but I was moved to the upper-class prison cells where I could stay alone and not have to worry about fighting for where to sleep with five roommates for the night or being woken up with kicks. The inmates were cruel and I was subjected to slavery. I began to feel how my maid
Make UpRayne's POVโHello, sister,โ Alex spoke softly as our eyes locked onto each other. โExcuse me? What did you just call me?โ I asked puzzled. Did he just call me his sister? What was going on here? At that moment, the world stood still. Alex's words hung in the air as I stood frozen.โSister. You're my sister.โ Alex spoke softly. I stepped backward looking him up and down as if he was drunk. โAlex, I think you have the wrong person. Did you hear your head?โ I asked with worry etched on my face. Alex walked forward, his hands outstretched to me trying to pacify me. โRayne, I know this might come off somewhat crazy but I'm your brother. Your twin brother.โโYoโฆyour twin? What the heck? How's this even possible? IโฆI should have known. Dad should have known,โ I stuttered.Alex hesitated then moved slowly to me unsure of how to proceed. โIโฆI just found out. It's been a few days. Nathan told me. He brought the test and..โโNathan told you. Test results?โ I asked startled. I eyed h
Rayne's POVโNathan, Zia's out of prison. She got an appeal and somehow proved her insanity," I complained.โI know. I found out this morning. But that doesn't seem to be the only thing on your mind. What is it?โ Nathan said, pulling back as his eyes locked onto mine. I took a deep breath and let it out. โI got a text just after I saw the news. It said the first strike. It was an unknown number and it called me but I was too frightened to pick up. First, Zia gets out and I know she's not smart to do this plus she is at the hospital.โ โYou think it's Lucinda?โ Nathan asked calmly. โI don't know who to blame right now. Have you checked the CCTV footage?โ I asked, hoping to find some answers. Nathan answered just immediately as if he was expecting me to ask the questions. โMy men are working on it now.โ Jack walked in at that moment. โWe could find any suspicious activity or persons on the camera. The main circuit seemed to have been tampered with. I am guessing the footage was dele
