***Linda Wells’ POV***“Yeah, I’m not talking to Mitch,” I tell Ben as he holds the phone in his hand.He places the phone back to his ear and tells my message to Mitch. After a few seconds, he ends the call and puts the phone in his pocket.“What did he say?” I inquire.“Well…are you sure you would like to hear me tell you?” He fires a question to me without answering mine.“Spit it out, Ben,” I reply to him.The plane shakes a bit due to turbulence, causing my heart to skip a beat. I love flying but I definitely do not like the turbulence that comes with it.“He said that he won’t force you to speak to him, but you would eventually have to, considering that you are going to be his wife,” Ben explains to me, and I squeeze my hands shut as a way to control the anger that I feel.“Are you okay? You look like you want to kill someone,” Ben says to me as he chuckles nervously.“I’m fine,” I breathe out a sigh and I turn my attention to the view from the plane window. In a few hours, we l
“We don’t have secrets,” I say to her, and a look of guilt and shame covers her face.“Chris, the day after our wedding, I disappeared for a whole day, and when you asked me about it, I told you that I went to visit my aunt who had cancer,” She reminds me, and I nod slowly.Where is she taking this?“I lied, I went to see someone,” She explains, but I am still confused.“I don’t get why you are bringing up something that happened long ago,” I chuckle lowly as I reply to her.“Will you just listen?” She begs me, and I sigh loudly.“The guy I went to see was not just any guy, he was a lover,” She says as her eyes glisten with tears.“Haha, very funny, Violet,” I say to her in response, but when I notice that she is not laughing, I stare at her for a few seconds.“What?” My voice cracks.“I have been cheating on you from the day we got married, Chris. I have not been the wife you thought I was,” She sniffles after she says this.“You got to know about The Witnesses after you thought I ha
“Blackmailed? Dad, what?” I ask him and he looks around to see if someone is coming before continuing to speak again.“Let’s have this conversation in your room, please?” He pleads with me, and I agree easily. He leads the way as I try to understand what he is saying to me. He is a senator that has his own water company; he is honest and has always been, how could he be blackmailed? Where is the dirt that could be used against him? When the both of us have entered my old room, he walks toward the bed and sits on it. He has a worried look on his face that intrigues me even more.“Dad, how are you being blackmailed?” I ask him as I cross my arms on my chest. I choose to rather stand than sit.“Dad…” I beg him to tell me when he does not respond.“Your mother does not know about this, nor do your siblings,” He finally speaks up.“I made a huge mistake concerning the company,” He explains.“I still don’t get why you are being blackmailed, everyone makes mistakes,” I reply to him, and he
I cuss under my breath when I read the message that I just got from Violet on my phone. “We are here, ma’am,” The driver informs me, and I notice that the car is no longer moving, it has stopped.“Alright,” I reply to him as I place my phone back into my purse. I then open the door and I step out.The location that I chose for this emergency meeting is quite different, and in a weird sense, comical because we are here to air our sins to maybe a hundred powerful people.I am standing in front of a very huge church, the building is magnificent.I am wearing a silver dress that is slightly above my knees. It exposes my back in a sexy and fashionable manner. The heels I am wearing are expensive, they cost me 7k, and the bottoms are red.My hair falls to my shoulders gracefully, and my lips are stained with red lipstick.“Victoria!” Sue greets me as she joins me. The both of us are heading into the church with other members of The Witnesses who are also here for the meeting.“Hello, Sue,”
He looks different, the signature ponytail that he always does with his long hair is gone. His hair is now cut very low, it makes him look…mature. But it looks good on him though.“Hi,” He says as he smiles. He walks out of the house and closes the door shut.“I have some friends over, I don’t think you would like them to hear what you came here to tell me,” He sounds happy.“Uh, yeah. We can talk in the car,” I suggest and he nods. He has a smile on his face that reminds me of all the many times we spent together. It reminds me of so many of the dates that we went on.The both of us walk towards my family’s car in silence. When we reach it, I open the door and I step in. He opens the other door and enters also.“Thank you for coming to see me,” He starts the conversation.I really wish that I did not though. Even though I can not just simply press delete and get this man out of my mind, he has hurt me so much and I just want nothing to do with him. “The only reason I’m here is becau
***Linda Wells’ POV***As I drive away from Mitch’s house, I do not make any attempt to wipe away the trail that the tears left on my face. I just drive in silence with the windows rolled down. What was the point of even going over to his place? He’s not going to change his mind!He claims that he loves me but if he truly did, he wouldn’t have been forcing me to be with him.It does not take long for me to reach home. I park the car right in front of the house and I get down. I sniffle and then use the back of my hand to wipe my face.I walk towards the front door and make no attempt to knock, I just open it and walk in.My family is in the living room, and from the look on my dad’s face, it seems like he knows that I failed. I did not convince Mitch to stop this blackmail sh*t.“I think it would have been better if you didn’t go over,” He says, and I slump my body on the couch next to my brother, Ben.“Did he call?” I ask, and everyone stares at me as if I have a horn on my head.“He
“It’s your brother. After you left home, he went over to see Mitch,” My mom tries her best to explain even though I can tell it’s hard for her to speak between sobs.“They got into a fight, and he was injured badly. He’s at a hospital not too far from the Hub Hotel,” She continues, and I sniffle as I try my best to not break down while talking to her. It would only trigger her to cry more.“Is everything okay? Sammy asks when she returns from the kitchen. She has two cups of ice cream in her hand.“It’s Ben, he got into a fight with Ben and now he is seriously hurt,” I inform her as I excuse myself.“Wait, I can drive you,” She follows me, and I don’t say anything in response. I can’t stop thinking of Ben.Both of us exit the house and we head towards the car that I drove here. I can’t drive right now, my mind is all over the place, so I am grateful that Sammy offered.“Where to?” She asks me when we have entered the car.“The new hospital, it’s not too far from The Hub Hotel,” I info
***Linda Wells’ POV***It is the next day, to be exact, my wedding day. I am sitting on a chair in front of a vanity mirror. My reflection looks just how I feel, and that is emotionally drained. The ceremony is being held at the same church it was the first time Mitch and I tried to get married. Mitch invited so many people and my heart breaks each time I am reminded that I wearing a wedding dress. My parents got it for me last minute. My hair was impressively done by a hairdresser who once did Beyonce’s hair for a music video. My lips are stained by light red lipstick and my cheeks have some blush to give them color.I have half an hour to get to the church, yet I have been in this room staring at my reflection for twenty minutes. I have no choice but to be there, that I know. If I don’t show up, Mitch would pull the trigger; he would turn my dad in and he could lose all that he has worked for his entire life.My sister and her husband are the ones that would be driving me to the ch
