Chapter 3

Author: Momo Two
Before I could even reply, Lily stepped forward, biting her lip.

She pressed a slender finger against Kaelen's lips. Her tone was aggrieved, yet she shot me a provocative glance.

"Stop it, Kaelen. What if Kristin actually bonds with Ethan and ends up dead without even a corpse left to bury?"

I had always loathed her fragile act.

In my last life, I would have already lunged forward, grabbed her by her hair, and forced an apology out of her.

But now, I merely looked at them with a detached gaze, as if watching a tedious play.

"Whatever happens between Ethan and me is none of your business."

Lily looked momentarily taken aback. She picked up a glass of moonwine and looked at me with pitiful eyes. "Kristin, I'm your sister. How can you say something so heartless?"

With that, she let out a violent cough while clutching her chest. Her face turned deathly pale. "I'm only looking out for you. After all, you threw away all your dignity just for Kaelen."

Boring.

Her delicate hand reached out, resting on my arm as if she were begging for peace.

Losing the last shred of my patience, I brushed her hand off and turned to leave.

But the moment I did, Lily acted as if she had been violently shoved. She shrieked and staggered backward toward the table.

Her lower back hit the edge of the table, and the champagne tower began to wobble dangerously.

Right before the glasses could crash down completely, Kaelen lunged forward and pulled her tightly into his arms to shield her.

The glass shattered, spraying shards all over the floor.

Lily clung to Kaelen, her voice trembling like a terrified rabbit. "Don't blame Kristin. I'm sure she didn't mean to push me. She just didn't realize the champagne tower was behind me. She didn't mean to hurt me."

As she spoke, she seemed unable to hold back her tears. Her weeping grew louder. "Kristin, I've never done anything to wrong you. Why are you always so cruel to me?"

Kaelen's expression darkened as he held her close. A dangerous edge emanated from him.

"Enough! You'd even bully your sister? Lily is still making excuses for you after what you did! Can't you see how utterly malicious you look?"

"I didn't touch her!" I yelled.

Looking at the smug satisfaction hidden in the depths of Lily's eyes, I suddenly found it hilarious.

Kaelen stepped forward and violently grabbed my wrist. "Everyone knows you're jealous of Lily. Apologize to her!"

Lily timidly tugged at his sleeve. "Let it go, Kaelen. I'm just afraid that once everyone leaves, Kristin will lock me in the punishment room again."

The punishment room.

She had fabricated something out of thin air to fuel the crowd's outrage.

The wolves began pointing fingers at me, calling me a disgrace who didn't deserve to be the Alpha's daughter.

They whispered that Lily was the true princess, as she was kind-hearted, forgiving, and graceful.

Blinded by fury, Kaelen raised his hand high and slapped me across the face. "If you don't change your wicked ways, I will never bond with you as long as I live!"

How could you have known?"I lowered my eyes, refusing to look at him any longer.Kaelen would never know that before leaving Central City, Lily had come to find me. She had laid out his entire plan, begging me to spare her life.Ever since Kaelen lost his claim to the chairman's seat, his treatment of Lily had completely changed. He had resorted to verbal and physical abuse, blaming her for ruining his relationship with me and costing him his path to absolute power.Staggering backward in shock, Kaelen crashed into a table behind him.A row of wine glasses went down with a loud clatter. The dark liquor soaked through his crimson suit. With a

The day of the bonding ceremony finally arrived.Seeing myself in the mirror in the bridal gown left me feeling a little dazed. In my last life, I had worn a similar gown.Back then, I had been filled with pure joy, naive enough to believe I was about to spend the rest of my life with the hewolf I loved.Instead, it had led to my ruin. This time, the gown was entirely different. White-gold threads formed intricate cedar patterns across the flowing skirt, and a silver silk ribbon was tied into a delicate bow at my waist.Ethan had designed it himself. He had poured over every detail for me, guiding the dress from the very first sketch to the finished piece.Shaking off the memories, I stood up and walked toward the ceremonial hall. The room was packed with elite guests.Ethan was already standing before the altar, looking regal in a black-gold suit with a moonstone brooch pinned to his collar. The moment he caught sight of me, his icy expression loosened for an instant. But j

Rumors in the pack began to spread like wildfire. Some said Ethan had laid hands on Kaelen all because of me. Others called me a temptress, tearing an uncle and nephew apart.Amidst all the gossip, I was dealing with a massive headache over the decorations for the bonding ceremony.Although Ethan and I had a history in my last life, we had only met a handful of times in this one.Still, the ceremony details required our mutual approval.Gathering my courage, I paid a visit to Ethan's estate on the east side of the city. The grounds were thick with cedar trees.I carefully pushed the front door open and stepped onto the polished marble floor in my high heels. "Ethan?"There was no response. The faint, savory aroma of food drifted through the air, suggesting the kitchen stove had only recently been turned off.The grand living room was entirely empty. The firewood in the fireplace was still crackling.Only the faint sound of running water came from the bathroom.I froze, inst

The engagement party was scheduled a week later.By then, word had spread across the entire Central City that I was actually going through with the bonding ceremony to Ethan, the cursed, impotent warrior.People whispered that I had loved Kaelen too deeply for too long and that this was nothing more than a childish tantrum. Some had even started a betting pool, wagering on whether the engagement would last even three months.I couldn't have cared less.…The night of the party, I was in the middle of a conversation with a few noble shewolves when, just as I reached for my glass, a tight grip clamped around my wrist. It was Kaelen. He was dressed in a pristine white suit, with Lily trailing closely behind him."Kristin," he whispered, his voice laced with that familiar, patronizing arrogance. "It's not too late for you to regret this."I looked down at his hand on my wrist calmly and made no effort to struggle. "Let go."Kaelen actually tightened his grip. A flash of genuine

The moment the words left my mouth, the entire room erupted in shock."How is this possible?""Didn't Kristin go as far as plotting against her sister just for Kaelen? How could she choose Ethan? There must be some mistake!"Kaelen lunged forward, his pupils contracting with utter disbelief. "Kristin, I am your mate!"He pushed past the Beta, reaching out to grab my hand. "I get it. You're throwing another tantrum…"Ethan stepped in and clamped an iron grip around his wrist.Kaelen gritted his teeth, his eyes reddening as though he had been deeply humiliated."Alpha Adam, Princess Kristin is just throwing a fit. Everyone knows she's been pursuing me for ten years!"Father looked down at him coldly, slamming his scepter hard against the floor. The entire hall fell dead silent."Enough. Kristin has chosen Ethan."As I looked at Kaelen, I suddenly smiled. "As you can see, Ethan is the mate I chose. We will share our lives and grow old together."The color drained from Kaelen's

Father stood on the stage, the emblem of the Werewolf Chairman pinned proudly to his chest.Though up there in years, he still commanded the room with the effortless grace of a true ruler. He walked over to me, his tone softening. "Today marks my daughter Kristin's coming-of-age ceremony, and the day she chooses her mate. As I have decreed before, whoever bonds with Kristin will become the next chairman."Kaelen puffed out his chest proudly, acting as if the ultimate power was already in his grasp. He completely failed to notice that Father's affectionate gaze was fixed entirely on Ethan and me.The ceremony proceeded."And now, will the couple please step forward to receive the blessing of the Moon Goddess?"Kaelen raised his chin high, preparing to stride up onto the stage. But out of nowhere, the Beta managing the event stepped in and blocked his path.Kaelen frowned, just about to lose his temper, when he witnessed a scene he would never forget for the rest of his life.M
