Jessie's POV

"Hello?" A woman's voice, it was cautious and uncertain.

My heart leaped. "Hello," I said quickly, trying to keep my voice steady despite my racing pulse. "Is this Beatrice? Beatrice, who used to work for Luna Catherine of Moonstone Pack?"

Silence. Then, heavy with emotion and something I couldn't quite identify, "Who is this?"

"My name is Jessie. Princess Jessie. Luna Catherine was my mother."

The silence that followed was so long and so complete that I thought she might have hung up. I pulled the phone away from my ear to check if the call was still connected. It was.
