Chapter 3

Author: Green Pick
"Look. There's not a single mark on my body!" I exclaimed. "If I had really slept with those men last night, how are there no traces of them at all?"

The videos could be deepfakes, but the non-existent marks on my body couldn't lie.

In my previous life, I had indeed checked into the hotel and woken up the next morning with red marks all over my body. At that time, I hadn't been able to defend myself. I had even suspected my blackout was due to being drugged.

But this time, I hadn't even set foot in the hotel, let alone had any marks on me. This should be enough to prove my innocence, right?

The moment the words left my mouth, everyone just frowned and stared at me like I was an idiot. I thought they simply didn't believe me, so I hurriedly rolled up my sleeves.

"If you don't believe me, check for yourself! Test the DNA in the room or—"

"Enough!" Zachary snapped, cutting me off. "Did you forget? You told them in the video not to leave any marks on you!"

I was baffled. I had avoided watching that video so much that I never dared look at it carefully. I hadn't noticed that detail at all.

Meanwhile, the officer in charge of processing the scene returned to the hotel lobby. "I'm sorry, ma'am. Our tests confirm that your DNA was found in the items in the room, along with that of several other men."

"That's impossible!" I shouted. "You must've made a mistake! You should run another test!"

The people around me gave me contemptuous looks. Not a single person believed me.

Still, how could my DNA possibly have been found in a hotel room when I hadn't even entered the lobby last night?

Just then, a woman shoved her way through the crowd and slapped me viciously. "You bitch! How dare you seduce my husband! I'm going to kill you!"

Right after that, the wives and girlfriends of the other six men rushed forward and shoved me to the floor. They yanked my hair and tore at my clothes, raining punches and kicks all over my body.

All I could do was curl into a ball on the floor, shielding myself as best I could until the officers dragged them away.

I straightened my clothes and continued explaining, "I swear it wasn't me. I was home all night with my parents. They can vouch for me!"

"Like we'd trust your bullshit! Of course, your parents are going to vouch for you!"

My hands clenched into fists.

At that moment, I spotted Nancy Miller in the crowd. She was a middle-aged woman who lived next door to my parents. Last night, I happened to run into her outside our houses and even greeted her.

Without a second thought, I rushed toward her and grabbed her hands. "Nancy, we talked last night when I got home, didn't we?"

When that face, identical to mine, was fully revealed, the crowd gasped."Oh my goodness. They look exactly the same!""So, they're identical twins! No wonder she could impersonate her so perfectly. Even the DNA matched!"My parents stood frozen in place, while Zachary was stiff beside them. The anger and contempt on his face were displaced by pure shock. He couldn't get a single word out.As for my twin sister, now exposed, she showed no trace of panic. She simply stood there, her eyes cold as they locked onto mine. "So, you figured it out, Julie. Is this what they call twin telepathy?"She curled her lips into a detached smile, but all I felt was sorrow."Why would you do this?" I asked quietly. "Even if Grandma gave you away back then, you're grown now. You could've come home to us. We could've been a family.""Home?" she repeated the word as if it were the punchline to a cruel joke, then burst into hysterical laughter."Julie, do you have any idea how I've lived all these

At my words, Mom's face turned white. Her knees buckled, and she almost collapsed. Dad caught her just in time. She clutched her shirt, tears filling her eyes as she choked out, "H-How is that possible? Why? Why would she do something like that? That was our daughter, her very own granddaughter!"The crowd around us fell silent, hearing our conversation.I gently rubbed Mom's trembling back, trying to soothe her while pushing past the sharp ache in my own chest. "Mom, Dad, remember when you told me our family was in terrible financial trouble while Mom was pregnant?"We had loans we couldn't repay, and Mom didn't even have enough money for treatment. But right after I was born, Grandma suddenly won a huge prize, which helped us get through all of it."If I'm right… Grandma must've taken my twin sister and…"I couldn't bring myself to say more.Dad's eyes were filled with disbelief, his voice shaking. "How could my mother do something so cruel? Julie, are you sure? Isn't this jus

"This is the security footage from our house last night," Dad said. "You can clearly see the date and time on it."The officer took the phone, and I stepped forward, picking up where Dad left off. My voice carried across the lobby."Last night, I stayed home with my parents. We watched TV together, then I went to my room. The footage shows I never left my room all night, and nothing unusual happened in the house. I didn't come out until this morning, when Zachary knocked on our door."When the crowd had attacked me earlier, I suddenly remembered the security cameras at home. I texted my parents right away, asking them to retrieve the footage and get here as fast as they could. I was only trying to buy time when I accused Zachary of cheating, but I never imagined he had actually betrayed me behind my back. The police reviewed the full recording. It played smoothly, the timeline intact. There were no signs of deletion, splicing, or tampering. Most importantly, the timestamps showe

In the end, Zachary finally admitted it. The moment he confessed, it felt like a thousand needles had pierced my chest. A confusing, painful wave of emotions crashed over me. He was right. The earlier accusations had only been a tactic to distract everyone, to buy time. Until that moment, I couldn't even be sure whether he had actually cheated. But now, all illusions were shattered. Our seven years together had fallen apart in an instant. My eyes burned, and my nose stung. In both my previous and current lives, he had always treated me coldly, never believing a word I said. Deep down, I had sensed something was wrong. Still, hearing him admit it out loud sent a sharp pain through my chest.Zachary handed his phone to the officer, his face dark, his tone almost reckless, like he had nothing to lose. "Go through it all you want. I admit it—I made a mistake and fell for someone else. But that's it. There's nothing on this phone to prove I set her up last night."The officer took t

The moment I said that, the crowd exploded."Is she crazy? Did she just say that her husband had pretended to be her?""How can a man disguise himself as a woman? Especially naked?""She's running out of ideas. She's just trying to make up an excuse to get out of this."Zachary sneered at me, his eyes full of contempt. "Julie, have you lost your mind? Is that why you're spouting such nonsense?"The officer frowned and stepped closer, his voice firm. "Ma'am, do you have any concrete evidence to support this claim?"I took a deep breath, forcing myself to look calm and in control, like I already held all the cards. I cleared my throat and said, "Everyone, let's not jump to conclusions. I'll explain everything from the beginning."Last night, I left home and stayed at my parents' house after a huge fight with Zachary. And the fight started because I found a lipstick in his passenger seat—one that wasn't mine."Whispers spread through the crowd. People began throwing suspicious l

Nancy froze for a moment, clearly flustered. After all, I had become public enemy number one, and she had no intention of getting dragged into the mess. However, seeing me battered and disheveled, my eyes red from crying, she ultimately gave in and spoke up for me. "That's right. When you came back to the neighbourhood last night, we had a little chat…"Her voice still carried some hesitation, a trace of doubt. Even so, just having her step forward and clear my name at a time like this was enough to make me feel grateful. At that moment, the woman who had slapped me earlier yanked a man by the arm and pushed her way out of the crowd. She shoved him right in front of me. He was one of the seven men from the video."You've got witnesses? Well, so do we!"She slapped the man before her and demanded, "Tell everyone. Is she the bitch you slept with last night?"He shuddered, then nodded quickly. "Yeah, that's her! I'd never forget her face! If she hadn't thrown herself at me last
