Chapter 1

作者: Forced Love Again
"Your conservative treatment approach is way too outdated, Dr. Lund. Mr. Joseph's time is far too valuable to sit in a hospital for half a year doing physical therapy and taking medication."

I instantly snapped out of my daze after hearing that contemptuous voice.

Derek Chapman, a new doctor in our department, was the one speaking. He held up his phone to show an AI medical consultation app called CyberDoc on the screen. He tapped the screen a few times and triumphantly surveyed the colleagues and the patient's family with a smug grin.

"I entered Mr. Joseph's ultrasound data and blood test results into this AI program, and the latest algorithm from Astoria gave a very clear diagnosis.

"Mr. Joseph isn't suffering from some complicated lesion due to a rare condition. He just has a standard retroperitoneal cyst. He'll be fine once he gets a simple laparoscopic surgery. He'll be discharged in three days, with zero chance of relapse."

I couldn't help but tremble all over when I heard those exact words again. I had actually been reborn. I had actually returned to the day that reshaped my whole life.

In my past life, I had pulled three consecutive all-nighters trying to uncover the truth behind Joseph Zeigler's condition—the heir to the powerful Zeigler family—digging through nearly a decade's worth of local and international medical journals.

His lesion was located in a very precarious spot and involved a rare vascular malformation, making any hasty surgery extremely likely to cause severe hemorrhage.

That was why, when Derek began boasting about his diagnosis, I openly reprimanded him without showing any mercy.

Derek felt so publicly humiliated that he stormed out of the hospital in a fit of rage, only to slip into a river and drown. His death marked the beginning of my nightmare.

Helen Walker, the head of department who was having an affair with him, abused her authority to access the hospital's surveillance footage.

She selectively edited the video before posting it online, then hired online trolls to manipulate public opinion. "Jealous Doctor Publicly Humiliates Young Medical Genius, Driving Him to Jump into a River!"

I became the most hated person on the internet in a single night. I was bombarded with death threats online, and my home address was doxed. I was utterly devastated when Dad suffered a sudden heart attack because he couldn't bear the online harassment.

Those self-proclaimed "justice seekers" livestreamed on their phones when the ambulance arrived, blocking the entrance to the apartment complex. They shouted in unison, "A murderer's father doesn't deserve medical care!"

I watched helplessly as Dad passed away right there on the stretcher. I was so overwhelmed by despair that I jumped from the hospital's rooftop.

"Jasper Lund! What are you spacing out for? Did my groundbreaking approach leave you speechless?"

My continued silence only fueled Derek's smugness.

He turned to Frank Zeigler, the patriarch of the Zeigler family, who was sitting to the side, and said ingratiatingly, "You can rest assured that current AI technology is far superior to those old-fashioned doctors who only go by the book, Mr. Frank. Mr. Joseph will be back on his feet once we cut out that cyst."

Frank had already been dissatisfied with my conservative approach. He felt that the lengthy treatment period would interfere with Joseph's engagement banquet with his fiancee the following month.

His eyes instantly brightened the moment he heard what Derek said. "Why did you insist on putting Joseph through months of medication if this can be solved with a simple minimally invasive procedure, Dr. Lund? Is that your way of trying to make extra money off the Zeigler family?"

Frank questioned me sharply, his voice dripping with hostility.

I took a deep breath and suppressed the painful memories of my past life. I then looked up, flashed a polite smile, and said calmly, "I have to admit, the younger generation nowadays is truly impressive.

"I'm getting so old that my approach has become outdated. I can't really keep up with all this high-tech stuff youngsters use nowadays."

It could be said that the retaliation from the Zeigler family was swift and devastating. Maria mobilized all her power and connections in a matter of three days. She filed for an 80-million-dollar medical malpractice lawsuit against Helen and Derek while handing the irrefutable evidence of Helen's assault on me straight over to the police.Helen's reputation was utterly destroyed. Her husband took their children, grabbed all the money, and skipped town when he found out what she had done.Derek's parents initially tried to buy his way out, but with the city's richest family shutting them out completely, their cash flow dried up overnight, and a tax fraud investigation wiped them out for good.I later went to the police station, where I saw Derek and Helen in the lobby, getting ready to make their statements. They both looked haggard and worn to the bone after just a few days."It's all your fault! If you hadn't insisted on taking the spotlight, I wouldn't have ended up like this!

Maria rushed over the moment the OR doors opened, followed by a group of hospital executives with pale complexions. Frank stood nearby with a bandage wrapped around his head, being supported by someone.Maria grabbed my shoulders tightly and asked, "How is Joseph?"I looked at her with a calm expression and explained, "Mr. Joseph is going to be fine, Mrs. Zeigler. His bleeding has been controlled and his tumor has been excised. His vitals are holding steady. "He's moving to the ICU for monitoring, and if he gets through tonight without complications, he'll be considered out of the woods."Upon hearing that, Maria visibly relaxed. She looked at me intently, her murderous gaze softening into profound gratitude. She then looked toward Helen and Derek, who were cowering in the corner while covered in blood, her rage igniting all over again. She bellowed, "Get these two incompetent quacks out of here!"In that instant, a pair of bodyguards charged over and dragged Helen and Derek in

I rapidly reviewed the monitor readings; Joseph's condition was even worse than expected. He had already lost more than 2,000 milliliters of blood and was in critical shock. I immediately issued commands, my voice steady and authoritative. "Give him two doses of epinephrine! Get eight units of packed red blood cells and four units of plasma from the blood bank! Get started on the rapid transfusion now!"Hearing my steady voice, the nurses and anesthesiologist, who had been completely panicked a second ago, snapped into gear and immediately got to work.Helen was still throwing a helpless fit beside us. "You've lost your mind! You don't get to call the shots here! Where is security? Get this madman out of here!""Get the two of them out of my sight! They're just getting in the way!" I ordered the circulating nurse, my eyes remaining on Joseph.Having grown tired of Helen's and Derek's incompetence long ago, several nurses stepped up immediately, dragging and shoving the pair out o

Derek exclaimed in surprise inside the OR. "What's going on here? I can't see anything! What the hell happened?"He lost it completely, and rather than shutting off the harmonic scalpel, panic caused him to blindly slash around inside the abdominal cavity. That blind cut severed a nearby arterial branch, causing blood to gush even harder, spurting up through the port and hitting Derek's surgical goggles directly."You fool! Stop moving!" Helen, realizing how dire the situation was, knocked Derek out of the way and yelled, "Suction! Clear the blood! Use gauze for packing!"It was no use, though. It was like a flood bursting through a dam once the malformed vascular plexus behind the peritoneum ruptured. It was impossible for them to control the bleeding through the micro-incisions. It wasn't long before blood accumulated quickly in the abdominal cavity, causing Joseph's stomach to inflate like a balloon. In that instant, the anesthesiologist yelled in absolute panic, his voice cra

I was overwhelmed with humiliation and rage, but I still gritted my teeth and slowly unfastened my hospital gown with trembling hands.Helen put her phone away after taking the photos, looking pleased with herself. "If you breathe a single word about this, these photos will be all over the internet by tomorrow. Get out of here now."I was dazed and disoriented as I walked out of the psychiatric ward's iron door, but I didn't head straight home. Instead, I went directly to an independent forensic lab to get an expedited toxicology screen on my blood. Helen had injected me with liquid phencyclidine, which would remain in my bloodstream for days. That blood result would serve as conclusive evidence that she had deliberately harmed me.I went straight home after getting the test results. I was utterly devastated when I noticed Dad's knees covered in bruises, but I still managed to hold it in and lied that the hospital had cleared my name and given me some time off. I instantly locked

I turned and reached for the doorknob, but Derek grabbed the back of my collar and yanked me backward with full force. I crashed into the cabinet before hitting the floor with a heavy thud."You ungrateful fool!" Helen rushed over and tightly restrained my arms. "Go bring me the agreement, Derek!"Derek retrieved the Primary Author Transfer Agreement and a pen out of the drawer. He then smirked maliciously, grabbed my right hand, and forced me to sign the agreement."Get off me!" I fought back with everything I had, but I couldn't overpower the two of them."I don't think a signature alone is enough to stop him from turning around and making a scene later, Dr. Walker," Derek said, staring at the signed agreement as a sinister glint flashed in his eyes. "I've got it covered, Derek," Helen said, smirking. She took out a pre-loaded syringe from her white coat.I widened my eyes in surprise the moment I saw the syringe. "I-Is that liquid phencyclidine? W-What the hell are you trying
