Liana closed the farmhouse door. She could still hear Marcus outside.

“What are you hiding?”

She ignored him. In her previous life, Marcus had always been like this. Whenever Liana had something, he wanted to know. Whenever she earned money, he wanted a share. Whenever she made a decision without consulting the family, he accused her of being selfish. This time, however, Liana had nothing to explain.

She walked toward the kitchen and placed the box of seeds on the counter. A moment later, her phone rang. Mom.

Liana stared at the screen. She almost didn’t answer. But she knew her family wouldn’t stop simply because she ignored them.

“Hello?”

“Liana, your brother said you bought a property.” Her mother’s voice was sharp.

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell us?”

“Because it’s mine.”

Silence. Then—

“Don’t be ridiculous. We’re family.”

Liana closed her eyes. There it was again. That word. Family. In her previous life, that single word had been enough to make her surrender everything—money, food, her opportunities, her future, even her life. But now? It meant nothing.

“I bought the property for myself.”

Her mother scoffed. “You can’t possibly manage a house alone.”

“I can.”

“Your brother said it’s far from the city.”

“That’s the point.”

“What are you planning?”

Liana looked toward the window. The sky was clear. People were driving home from work. Children were playing outside. Everything looked normal.

“Nothing.”

“Then why are you acting so strangely?”

Liana smiled bitterly. Because I know the world will end in seventy-nine days. But she didn’t say it. If she told them about the apocalypse now, would they believe her? Probably not. And if they did believe her? They would immediately expect her to prepare for them. She knew how that story ended.

No. This time, she would protect herself first.

“I’m busy, Mom.”

She ended the call.

---

The next morning, construction workers arrived. Liana had hired them under the excuse that she wanted to renovate the farmhouse for long-term living.

The first priority was the fence. The second was the doors. The third was the windows. She didn’t want the place to look like a fortress. Not yet. That would attract too much attention. Instead, she wanted everything to appear normal from the outside. Inside was different.

She had a reinforced steel door installed behind the main entrance. A second emergency exit was created at the back. The basement was cleared. And beneath the basement floor, Liana began preparing a hidden storage room.

The work cost nearly ₱40,000. Her savings dropped again. But she didn’t regret it. Money could be earned again. A safe place could save her life.

By the end of the week, the system notification appeared.

[Safe Haven Upgrade Progress: 82%]

Liana nodded. Almost there.

Then she opened her storage space. The room was already filling—rice, canned food, water, batteries, flashlights, medicine, seeds, tools, clothing, hygiene products, cooking supplies. She had learned from her first life that people always focused on food. But food wasn’t the only problem. What happened when there was no electricity? No clean water? No medicine? No soap? No feminine hygiene products? No batteries? No way to cook? Those small things became enormous problems after society collapsed. Liana planned for all of them.

---

That afternoon, another package arrived. She opened it. A portable solar generator.

Liana’s eyes brightened. She had bought it at a huge discount. She carried it inside.

“Storage.”

The generator disappeared.

[Survival Points +3.]

Liana blinked. “Why did I get points?”

A system message appeared.

[High-priority survival equipment detected.]

[Reward: 3 Survival Points.]

Liana smiled. So certain items were worth more.

She opened the Market Exchange. Her current points were now 25 Survival Points. The space expansion still required 50. She needed 25 more.

Liana closed the panel. “Not yet.” She wasn’t going to waste points just because she was impatient. She needed to think long-term.

---

That evening, Marcus came again. This time, he wasn’t alone. Her mother and father were with him.

Liana stepped outside. Her mother immediately looked around. “This place is bigger than I expected.”

Her father inspected the house. “You spent a lot of money on this.”

Liana said nothing.

Marcus crossed his arms. “Why didn’t you tell us you were buying property?”

“Because I didn’t need permission.”

His expression darkened. “We’re not strangers.”

Liana looked at him. “No.” She smiled faintly. “You’re my family.”

Her mother relaxed. Then Liana continued. “But that doesn’t mean you own me.”

Her mother’s smile disappeared. “Liana!”

“I’m not fighting with you.” She kept her voice calm. “I’m simply setting boundaries.”

Her father frowned. “Your mother only wants to know why you’re suddenly spending so much money.”

“I’m preparing for my future.”

Marcus laughed. “What future?”

Liana looked at him. “The future where I don’t have to depend on anyone.”

Marcus’s face changed. Before anyone could respond, Liana’s phone vibrated. A system notification appeared.

[Warning.]

[Unusual atmospheric activity detected.]

Liana’s smile disappeared. She quickly opened the notification.

[Estimated probability of major environmental disruption within 30 days: 17%.]

Her heart tightened. Thirty days? That was much earlier than she remembered. In her previous life, the first warning signs hadn’t appeared until much later.

Liana stared at the message. Something had changed. Her rebirth wasn’t simply giving her another chance. The future itself might be changing.

She looked toward the darkening sky. For the first time since waking up, she felt genuine fear. The apocalypse was coming. But perhaps—it was coming sooner than she thought.

“No…”The word escaped Liana’s lips before she could stop it.On the security monitor, a zombie stumbled toward their northern fence. Its clothes were torn, its face was covered in blood, and its movements were no different from those of the other infected. But she recognized that jacket. She had bought it for her father on his birthday in her previous life. She remembered him wearing it to family gatherings. She remembered him complaining that the sleeves were too long. She remembered laughing when Marcus told him he looked like an old-fashioned businessman. Now that same jacket hung loosely on a body that no longer seemed human.[Possible Identity Match: Richard Hart.] [Confidence: 96%.]Her hands began to tremble. Adrian stepped beside her. “Liana?”She couldn’t answer. He looked at the monitor and immediately understood. “Are you certain?”She shook her head, even though the system had already given her its answer. “I don’t know.”The lie sounded weak even to her own ears. Adria

  • Reborn: I Won’t Save Them Again   My Brother Came Back Alive

“Marcus is standing outside the gate?”Liana repeated Samuel’s words, hoping she had misunderstood.“Yes,” he answered through the radio. “He’s alone. His clothes are covered in blood, and his left arm is bandaged.”She gripped the receiver. “Has he shown any signs of infection?”“Not that I’ve seen. He’s sweating heavily, but he can still speak normally.”Adrian increased the vehicle’s speed. “We need to get back immediately.”Liana nodded, her mind racing. Marcus had been bitten. Her father had told her he was transforming. Yet somehow, her brother had escaped the roadside building and traveled all the way to their settlement. How? Had the infection progressed more slowly than expected? Or had he received treatment? She didn’t know. But she wasn’t going to let her uncertainty endanger everyone inside her home.“Samuel, keep the gate closed. Don’t let him touch anyone. Have Clara prepare the scanner.”“Understood.”She ended the transmission. Adrian glanced at her. “If he’s infected,

“Are you sure about this?”Adrian stood beside the utility vehicle, checking the ammunition and emergency supplies. Liana tightened the straps on her backpack. “No. But we can’t make a decision without knowing what’s happening.”Samuel approached them with a map. “The evacuation center is about twelve kilometers away. The main road is dangerous, but there’s a smaller route through the agricultural district.”“How many zombies have been spotted there?”“Unknown. The last report mentioned several groups near the highway.”Liana frowned. They were heading into an unfamiliar situation with limited information. That was exactly how people died during the apocalypse. “Then we don’t use the main road,” she decided. “We’ll take the agricultural route. If it becomes unsafe, we turn back.”Adrian nodded. “And our objective?”“Assess the evacuation center, deliver what we can, and help anyone we can safely extract. We’re not staying to fight a hundred zombies.”He gave her an approving look. “Go

Every time she closed her eyes, she heard her father’s voice through the radio. He keeps calling your name. Marcus had turned into a zombie. Her father and mother were somewhere near the southern highway, surrounded by infected people. And she had no idea whether they were alive. At six in the morning, she finally left her room. Adrian was already in the kitchen, studying a map spread across the table. “You’re awake early,” he said.“I couldn’t sleep.”He pushed a cup of warm water toward her. “We received another transmission at dawn.”Liana immediately sat down. “From my father?”“No. It was an emergency broadcast from a nearby evacuation center.”Her shoulders slumped. “What did they say?”“Several roads are blocked. The authorities are asking survivors to avoid the southern highway. They’re setting up temporary checkpoints near the main town.”She looked at the map. The old roadside building where her family had taken shelter was marked near a junction. If they had escaped, they m

“Your brother was bitten.”Liana’s mother’s words continued echoing in her mind long after the radio went silent.Marcus. The same brother who had taken her food in her previous life. The same man who had watched her struggle and still demanded more. The same person who had called her selfish when she refused to give him money. Now he had been bitten. She lowered the radio. Adrian studied her expression. “Are you going to look for them?”“No.” Her answer came quickly, but her fingers remained wrapped around the radio. He didn’t question her. Instead, he asked, “Do you think your mother was telling the truth?”“I don’t know.” That was the problem. Her family had lied to her before. They had hidden things, manipulated her, and used her sympathy whenever they needed something. But a zombie bite was different. If Marcus was infected, he could become dangerous to anyone near him. Including her parents.Liana looked toward the

The infected boy kept throwing himself against the isolation barrier. Every impact made the metal frame shake. His father sat outside the quarantine room, his hands trembling. “Please,” he whispered. “That’s my son.”Liana stood beside Clara, watching the medical scanner. The boy’s temperature had climbed beyond forty degrees. His breathing was irregular, and dark veins were spreading across his neck.Clara adjusted the scanner. “I’ve never seen an infection progress this quickly.”“Can you tell whether it’s contagious?”“Not with certainty. But we have to assume it is.”Liana nodded. “Then nobody enters that room without protective equipment.”Adrian secured the outer door while Victor brought additional metal panels from the storage shed. Samuel cleared the surrounding area. Everyone followed instructions without arguing. That was good. Panic could kill them faster than the zombies.Suddenly, the boy slammed his head against the barrier.BANG!His father jumped to his feet. “Daniel!
