Aurora’s eyes snapped fully open.

The hospital lights above her blurred into harsh white halos, and for a moment she couldn’t tell if she was still dreaming or awake. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, each beat louder than the last.

Then she saw him.

Xavier.

His face hovered over hers, his eyes were filled with worry, breath trembling and jaw clenched tight like he’d been holding himself together by sheer force.

The the warning fate gave her from the meadow slammed into her chest like an electric shock:

‘Don’t trust anyone. Especially the people around you.’

A cold wave of terror surged through her.

“NO!” Aurora screamed, jerking violently. “Get the fuck away from me!”

Xavier froze.

“What…Aurora?” His brows knitted tightly. “Hey, hey, it’s me—”

“GET AWAY FROM ME!” she shrieked, hands clawing at the air, trying to push him away. The monitor beside her began beeping uncontrollably. “DON’T TOUCH ME! DON’T COME NEAR ME!”
