After saying that, I couldn't hold on anymore. I started to black out.

The Pack Healer suddenly jammed a needle of adrenaline into me.

He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead."Chloe, you cannot sleep! If you close your eyes, you won't wake up! Think of your mate, think of your pup! They are waiting for you!"

The Lycan King chimed in, his voice urgent."Yes! You saved me.You will have endless wealth. And your pup—if it's a girl, she will marry a royal prince! If it's a boy, he will be a Gammal! Hold on! I've already sent guards for Rowan!"

Hearing the King, I forced a bitter smile.

I'm not stupid. The moment I took those claws for the King, I knew my pup was gone.

As for Rowan, he would never come.

Just then, the guard the King sent rushed back.

He dropped to his knees, terrified to even look at the Lycan King.

"Where is Rowan?!"

The guard trembled violently.

"The Gamma refuses to come. He said... he said not to use cheap tricks to win his pity."

The guard slammed his forehead against the ground.

I knew Rowan's words were probably much worse. The guard was just too scared to insult the King's presence.

It made sense. In Rowan's heart, I was nothing compared to Yara.

But I was his fated mate, properly marked and bound! Yara was just a mistress! To chase after a mistress, he abandoned the King's safety and took his guards to comfort her.

Even that flare—I had to beg on my knees for him to leave it with me!

If he loved Yara so much, why did he mate with me in the first place?!

He ripped the royal seal from his belt and threw it at the guard.

"Go! Tell him this is an Alpha Command! If he doesn't come right now, I will execute him!"

The Lycan King was truly furious.

He usually had elite guards everywhere. Today, during an assassination attempt, not a single one was around.

I sacrificed myself to save him, yet he couldn't even summon my mate. To an apex alpha like him, this was the ultimate insult.

I couldn't move. The healer kept me alive with IV fluids, waiting for the wolfsbane antidote to brew.

By the time the guard returned, I was still conscious enough to hear him.

But this time, the guard didn't come back alone.

I forced my eyes open and saw a familiar face from my past life. Tara, Yara's loyal maid.

Tara used to be my servant. But after I got pregnant, she slipped wolfsbane into my food. I was on the brink of death when it was discovered.

I wanted her executed. But right as I ordered it, Rowan walked in with Yara in his arms.

Yara sobbed, holding Tara's hand, looking at me pitifully.

"Chloe, how can you be so cruel? You didn't die, did you? Why must you take a servant's life? You are a monster! Rowan, please, give Tara to me. I'm just a mistress, but surely I can save one maid's life."
