Chapter 3

Author: Iced Americano
At dawn, I picked up the statue and headed for the woods, where the oldest witch, Hannah Franklin, resided.

The moment I stepped into her cave, Hannah's wrinkled face tensed up. "Elena, there's black magic on you!"

She reached out with her wiry arm and snatched the Moon Goddess statue I was holding. When she came in contact with it, the statue let out a high-pitched scream and started thrashing wildly on the ground.

Hannah's eyes widened. She hammered on a bell made of bone hanging on the cave wall. Immediately, silver arcane markings appeared on the ground.

Chains made of solidified moonlight wrapped around the statue, which let out another piercing shriek. After thrashing around for a bit more, it lay still.

After taking care of the cursed object, Hannah pulled me into her chamber. "Elena, what was that about? Why are you dabbling with a forbidden spell?"

I told her everything I'd encountered after my rebirth, including the conspiracy Leo and Sylvia were planning.

When she heard about my horrible death, her murky eyes lit up. "This statue was an offering to the Alpha King from a non-native witch years ago. I sensed something was wrong with it and proceeded to look into it.

"Once a target's hair is inserted into the statue, the caster and the target will have their fates switched."

My hair stood on end.

In my previous life, Sylvia had always been sickly and was constantly coughing. After Dad took her in, her health improved significantly. Now I understand why.

Meanwhile, despite being in my prime, my health deteriorated after forming the mate bond.

No wonder I'd always blundered during the trials. I had trained hard day and night, yet to no avail.

On the other hand, Sylvia, who experienced difficulty in a basic shift, had passed the toughest examination along with Leo.

Hannah patted me on the back with her weathered hand. "Elena, it's fortunate you came here in time. Once the switch begins, it would be impossible to reverse the effects—that's the darkest nature of the cursed statue.

"You'll have to bear the fate of the other party. If Sylvia gets injured, the same wound would be inflicted on you, but worse."

I took a deep breath as I remembered the weird wounds that appeared out of nowhere in my previous life.

Now I knew the truth.

"What would happen if we embed an animal's fur into the statue in an attempt to switch fates?"

Hannah's cloudy eyes widened. Then, a look of understanding crossed her face. "It works the same for any being alive. If one switches fate with an animal, they will adopt the ways of said animal, becoming a half-human, half-beast creature."

Smiling, I kept the statue in a sack. After a short discussion with Hannah, I returned to the pack.

I happened to spot a newly captured stray dog in the beast enclosure. I swiftly pluck a strand of its hair.

Under the cover of the night, I sneaked into Sylvia's cave and placed the statue under her bed. Then, I slipped away into the night.

Next, I wanted to focus on preparing for the pack's trials.

It was an important trial that would determine the pack's line of authority for the next decade. In my previous life, I painstakingly prepared for two years, only for myself to lose my ability to shift into my wolf at a crucial moment.

Back then, Leo had consoled me, saying, "Elena, she-wolves aren't skilled in combat in nature. You should just stay in the pack and take care of logistics. After I pass the trials, we can then proceed with the bonding ceremony. When I become Alpha King, I will make you my Luna Queen."

However, I recalled that in the past hunting competitions, I'd always surpassed him in terms of speed and strength.

Now that I thought about it, I was so deeply in love with Leo that I believed his nonsense and poured my energy into developing the pack. In the end, I could do nothing but watch them use the resources I'd accumulated to slowly take over the pack.

However, in this life, I would no longer let anyone control my fate. The Moon Goddess would eventually shine her blessings on the true werewolf.

Leo howled, "Elena, after all these years being together, I don't believe that you don't love me anymore!"Lashing out with a kick, I toppled him over. "Love you? Should I love you for teaming up with Sylvia to steal my admission token? Leo, have you still not come to your senses after being jailed for so long?"Leo's eyes were bloodshot. He staggered backward. "I did that all for the sake of our future! Now, Sylvia has gone mad, the pack has banished me… Elena, only you can help me return to the pack!"Before he even finished his sentence, he dropped heavily on his knees onto the icy rock slab. He grabbed my war boots in a tight grasp. "Elena, I beg you… If you help me return to the pack, I'll agree to anything you want!"I kicked him aside. "Leo, you're no better than a stray dog now. In both our past and current lives, you're always a parasite who leeches off others!"Aidan grabbed my waist and stepped back. He stared at Leo warningly. "Leo, if you continue to pester Elena, I'l

Leo's eyes widened as he let out a suppressed growl.Swaying, he rose to his feet. His body was convulsing. "Impossible… That certificate must be a fake!""It contains a seal from the Moon Goddess altar. Do you want to take a closer look?" I tossed the certificate to the executive leader. The leader examined it and looked at Leo. "Leo, you're charged with theft and illegally altering the ownership of the strike force's admission token. You're now under arrest."Leo shook his head violently. "How could this happen? Elena, you said…"His gaze was fixated on Aidan and my intertwined fingers. When he saw the ring on Aidan's ring finger, he crumbled to the ground."Aidan… Why did you take her from me? How am I less than you in any way?"He hugged his head tightly, looking very miserable. Just as the executives were about to take him away, Leo suddenly broke free and lunged at Sylvia.Crouching in a corner, Sylvia was sobbing in a sound that wasn't anything a werewolf could produce

The next day, Aidan and I visited the human market to purchase new weapons and forge new gear.Aidan brushed his fingertips along the smithing table. "Ten years ago, we could only make weapons by hand, yet now we can produce them in large quantities. This bears witness to the interweaving of the cultures of two different species."We must break the barrier between our civilizations that has lasted for a century."I touched the molds. In a solemn tone, I said, "We should seize the opportunity. The Dark Hunters pack's blacksmithing skills will rise above all others."We initiated the production of the new equipment, and soon, the first batch of new weapons was born. When they were first introduced to the trial grounds, it created an uproar.Orders stacked up as quickly as the naked eye could see, and the Dark Hunters pack's armory soon became well-known across the continent. As the day of enrollment for the Silvermoon Strike Force neared, my admission token went missing.I smiled

The next day at dusk, I saw a figure pacing back and forth outside my house.Flipping the curtains aside, I saw it was Leo. He was clearly filled with resentment.Walking toward me, he pulled out a Moon Goddess pendant from his pocket. "Elena, I acted recklessly yesterday. Please don't take it to heart."Noting my silence, he placed the pendant on my palm. "I exchanged my battle merits for this. Here, you can have it."Studying the pendant's worn surface, I scoffed under my breath. That same pendant was still on Sylvia's neck last year.I coldly asked, "What do you want?"Noticing that I was still cold toward him, he seemed annoyed. "Elena, how long are you going to act up like this? I've already given in. What else do you want from me?"His face contorted with anger. Scoffing, I threw the pendant on the ground."Leo, are you living in your own fantasy?" Folding my arms across my chest, I looked straight into his reddened eyes. "Do you think I'd care about a defective second-h

When she realized what she'd just said, Sylvia clasped her hand over her mouth.I stared at the results as tears welled up in my eyes.My ratings were two rankings higher than what I'd achieved in my previous life!Leo found his name on the list. He was filled with disbelief as he stared at his ranking. "How could this be? How am I only rated B?"Smiling, I watched condescendingly as they became flustered. In my previous life, I'd trained with Leo before the trials. Without my help this time, he and Sylvia were too wrapped up in their plot. It'd be weird if they'd obtained good results.Suddenly, Leo pounced at me furiously. He grabbed my wrist. "What did you do? There's definitely something wrong with the results!"His eyes were bloodshot. He was no longer the composed werewolf he used to be. "Elena, do you think you can bribe the examiners just because you're the daughter of the Alpha King?"I grabbed his collar and shoved his face against a moonstone slab. "Take a good look

During that period, Sylvia stopped appearing before me.She hadn't realized that whenever she saw an object whizzing past, she would instinctively give chase. She'd also unintentionally sniff at others.I smiled. Within two weeks, Sylvia would behave completely like a dog. However, that was only the beginning. I wanted her to pay a painful price for everything she'd done.I trained hard every day. However, as it had been a long time since I trained, I couldn't keep up. After giving it some thought, I decided to ask Aidan to help me train. In my previous life, Aidan came out first in the trials and joined the Silvermoon Strike Force. He was more than qualified to help me with the trials. When I entered their house, Leo and Sylvia were sitting next to the moonstone, whispering to each other. Sylvia's ears were red as she gently hit Leo on the chest.Seeing that, I smirked.Callum and Theodore turned to look at me.Theodore asked, "What's wrong, Elena? Callum and I were just betti
