I stood up and walked over to close the door.

“What is going on?” I asked. “You can relax and talk to me.”

“It is about…” he hesitated.

“Take your time; I am not in a hurry to go anywhere.” I said in a soothing voice, hoping it would help him relax.

He took a deep breath and removed his hand from the table, placing it under. “I found my mate.” He rushed out the words.

A small knowing smile embraced my face. “I know you have. She is a beautiful one,” I said.

“You knew?” he asked, surprised.

“I did. Hardly does anything go past me in this pack.” I said. The smile faded from my face slowly. “There is a problem, is there not? You would not be this nervous just because you want to tell me you found your mate. Is she trying to reject you?” I asked.

“Well, if I am not careful, that might be the case.” He sighed and lowered his head.

“Why? Did you do something, or did something happen?” I pressed, leaning forward on the table with my fingers linked.
