Chapter 3

Author: Cher
The butt of the gun slammed hard into my shoulder.

I heard the sound of bone dislocating, and searing pain instantly flooded my entire body. However, I did not fall and neither did I cry.

"Spoiled Principessa," Vincenzo sneered as he put away his gun. "Your existence makes the air in this estate foul."

He crouched down and gently helped Adriana up. "Does it hurt? I'll call for a doctor."

"No need. I'm fine." Adriana weakly shook her head, her voice trembling. "I'm just frightened, that's all."

She looked past Vincenzo's shoulder at me. In those clear eyes flashed a hint of triumph.

Just like countless times in my last life, she had successfully played the victim again.

I used my good hand to support myself against the wall, steadying myself. Everyone else in the room held their breath, waiting for this storm to end.

"I'll leave the estate." My voice was calm. "Very soon."

Vincenzo said without turning back, "That would be for the best."

Then, he carried Adriana out of the room, leaving me alone to face the bloodstains and pain. The bodyguards and maids in the estate had all seen what just happened, but no one dared step forward to help me.

They knew Vincenzo's temper and what would happen if they offended him.

I leaned against the wall and slowly made my way to the phone, dialing the number of the family doctor.

"Dr. Romano, it's me, Rosalie. I need you to come over. Yes, right away."

An hour later, my shoulder was reset and my arm was secured with bandages. Elio Romano was an old friend of the Moretti family who had served us since I was a child.

"You need to rest for at least two weeks." He packed up his medical kit, then paused. "Also, Ms. Moretti, this kind of injury isn't caused by an accident."

"I know."

He looked at my calm expression. He wanted to say more but ultimately held back.

As the family doctor, he had seen too many consequences of violence and understood that in this mafia family, women were often put in even more dangerous situations.

"If you need any help..." He left the sentence unfinished, gathered his things, and left.

Three days later, I moved out of the Marino estate. This time, there were no tears or reluctance.

I hired a professional moving company and had everything that belonged to me moved to a penthouse apartment in downtown Elgano City.

It was a luxury apartment over 3,000 square feet, located in the prime area of Pica Avenue. I then began setting up my own fashion studio.

I thought about many things during that year of imprisonment in my last life. I often asked myself what I would do and what kind of person I would become if I could live again.

I wanted my own career and my own life. I would never depend on any man again. I would never sacrifice everything for 'family' again.

I contacted several designer friends in New Fay and Marise and began preparing to set up my personal brand. Although the Moretti family was part of the mafia, our legitimate businesses included high-end hotels and luxury goods trading, providing me with a solid business foundation.

One late night, a week after moving out, Vincenzo drunkenly called me while I was organizing design sketches.

"I'm at the club. Come here." His voice was thick with alcohol, and the background music was deafening. "Now."

"I've already moved out."

"Moved out?" He paused for a few seconds, then let out a mocking laugh. "You've finally learned your lesson? Realized you're not worthy of living in the Marino estate?"

I did not respond to his provocation.

In my last life, I would have cried bitterly over such humiliation. I would have proven my worth to him over and over again.

"Very good." His tone suddenly turned vicious, the alcohol exposing his true nature. "Since you're so sensible, go buy Adriana a million-dollar jewelry set as an apology gift. Then, get back to the estate and be my quiet fiancée. I don't want to hear any more complaints from you."

"I refuse," I said calmly, my fingers lightly brushing over the design sketches on the table. "I have a better proposal."

"What?"

"I'll leave Elgano, as you wish. We'll never see each other again."

With that, I ended the call.

After the gathering ended, I flew back to my penthouse apartment in New Fay, where Ethan stood in the kitchen wearing an apron, preparing a candlelit dinner."Did work go well?" He walked over to embrace me and kissed my forehead lightly."Very well." I wrapped my arms around his neck, feeling his warmth. "I heard you canceled a business trip?""Yes, I wanted to spend the weekend with you." His eyes were full of tenderness.I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his lips. "So, we can stay home all weekend then, can't we?"…Three days later, Ethan surprised me with a proposal during our evening walk."Marry me." Ethan knelt on one knee, holding an exquisite sapphire ring in his hands. The ring's design was simple and elegant, with the central sapphire catching the light. We stood by the lake in the park as the sunset painted the entire sky gold and crimson. In the distance, couples were rowing boats. Nearby, children fed the ducks. Everything was so beautiful and peaceful."Yes." I

[My miscarriage was caused by Rosalie Moretti!]Adriana posted a photo on Instagram of herself lying in a hospital bed, her pale face streaked with tears. The caption was written pitifully.[She was jealous that I was pregnant with Vincenzo's child and deliberately pushed me down the stairs. Now, the baby is gone, and Vincenzo has abandoned me. I'm just a pitiful woman who has lost everything.]Within hours, the post was shared tens of thousands of times. The comment section was filled with curses and abuse directed at me. She even announced a live stream to expose my deeds. My fashion studio began receiving malicious phone calls and emails. Several important clients canceled their orders, citing 'brand image' concerns.Labels like 'venomous woman', 'the cursed Moretti Principessa', and 'vicious heiress' began spreading wildly across social media.I sat in my New Fay office, calmly scrolling through these vicious comments. My assistant, Emma Hughes, reported the losses with a pa

"Rosalie?"I was cutting my steak when I heard that voice that sent chills down my spine.I looked up to find Vincenzo standing beside our table, his expression as dark as the sky before a storm. He wore a black tailored suit, but his tie was loose. He had clearly rushed here."What are you doing here?" I set down my knife and fork, my tone icy."Handling business." His gaze swept back and forth between Ethan and me. There was a dangerous gleam in his eyes. "I didn't expect to run into you in New Fay."This upscale three-star restaurant was located in the heart of New Fay's financial district. It was a place where Ethan and I frequently met up. It was quiet, private, and far from the drama of Elgano.Ethan rose gracefully and extended his hand. "Hello, I'm Ethan Vance."Vincenzo looked at the outstretched hand but did not respond. His attention was entirely on me, as if Ethan did not exist at all."We need to talk." He ignored Ethan completely, his tone commanding. "Privately."

"Help?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, clearly somewhat surprised. "What kind of help?""I need to completely break free from Vincenzo and the entire Marino family's entanglement." I stated my plan calmly, my voice carrying unquestionable resolve."I need a new identity. Not as the Moretti family's Principessa and not as Vincenzo Marino's fiancée. But as an independent woman with her own career. I need a new trump card."Ethan fell silent for a few seconds. He seemed to be weighing the gravity of my words and the enormous risk this request represented. He said slowly, "You mean… A new, public relationship.""Exactly." I met his gaze without flinching. "I need a new boyfriend. A man powerful enough whom Vincenzo wouldn't dare to provoke easily."What I did not say aloud was that this person had to be smart enough to see through the transactional nature of this arrangement yet upright enough not to take advantage and make improper demands. Ethan fit the criteria perfectly. He did not an

That slap carried significant force. Even my own palm felt numb. The elders in the council hall were stunned. They probably never imagined that I, the daughter of the Moretti family, would dare slap him in front of everyone.Vincenzo clutched his face, his eyes filled with disbelief.I did not spare them another glance. I turned and nodded slightly to my Papa standing beside the head seat. Then, I left the prison that had confined me for my entire past life. I even felt I was not leaving fast enough. The immense pressure, the dull ache from my old shoulder injury, and the impact from that slap struck me all at once. The moment I walked out of the estate's gates, my vision began to darken. My body swayed unsteadily, and I finally collapsed by the cold fountain at the entrance. In the last moment before losing consciousness, I seemed to catch a fresh cedarwood scent. It was different from the heavy cologne Vincenzo wore. This scent was clean and steady. When I woke up again, I f
