Lucas called me at six in the morning with instructions to meet him at the gym on the top floor of his building.

"Gym? I thought you said training, not torture."

"Physical fitness matters in business. Be here in thirty minutes."

I showed up wearing the only workout clothes I owned, old leggings, and a tank top from college.

Lucas was already there, hitting a punching bag with bare fists, sweat running down his bare chest.

I stopped in the doorway, unable to look away from the muscles flexing under his skin with every punch.

"Done staring?" he asked without turning around.

My face heated. "I wasn't staring."

"Liar." He grabbed a towel and wiped his face. "Get on the treadmill. Run for twenty minutes."

"Why do I need to run? I'm your assistant, not your bodyguard."

"Because meetings run long, days are exhausting, and weak people fail. Run."

I got on the treadmill, starting at a slow pace.

Lucas increased the speed remotely from his phone. "Faster. You think your enemies will

  • Reborn to Seduce the Devil CEO    Chapter 28: The Fear of Losing Him

When I got to the room Lucas gave me, I shut the door and sat on the bed, my hands shaking. Everything that happened kept replaying in my head, Rachel standing there like she never died, her son calling Lucas “Dad,” the way Lucas looked at them. I had never seen that look on his face before. It was shock, yes, but also something deeper. Something that scared me.I told myself not to cry, but the tears came anyway. What if he left me? What if having his family back meant there was no place for me anymore? I wasn’t scared of Rachel; I could deal with her, no matter how cruel she was. What I was scared of was losing Lucas. After everything, after all the pain, I couldn’t imagine my life without him.The door opened, and Lucas stepped in quietly. I wiped my face fast, pretending I was fine, but he saw right through me. He came to sit beside me, his voice low. “Eva, don’t do this to yourself.”I didn’t look at him. “How am I supposed to act, Lucas? You have a son. And your wife... she’s al

When the boy ran into Rachel’s arms and called her Mom, I stood frozen, unable to speak or move. My brain tried to make sense of what I was seeing, but every thought collided and broke apart. Rachel hugged the child tightly, brushing his hair back with a proud smile.“He’s beautiful, isn’t he?” she said, turning to me with a smug look. “You weren’t expecting this, were you?”My throat went dry. “Who is he?”Rachel’s grin widened as if she had been waiting for me to ask. “My son. Our son, to be precise. Mine and Lucas’s.”The words hit like a slap. I took a step back, shaking my head slowly. “That’s not possible. Lucas would have told me.”She let out a low laugh that sent chills through me. “Oh, poor little Eva. You really thought he told you everything? You think men like Lucas share their whole hearts with women like you?”I clenched my fists but didn’t move. “He’s not that kind of man.”“Isn’t he?” She raised an eyebrow and stroked the boy’s cheek. “Five years ago, I left him, yes.

Eva’s POVThe next morning, I woke up alone in bed. Lucas must have carried me from the couch last night. The thought made me blush. The way we cuddled, the feel of his soft lips on mine, it all came rushing back. I could only imagine how sexy he must have looked while carrying me upstairs.A hot, caring devil of a CEO—that’s all I need in my life. And that devil is willing to change for me, a normal girl who was reborn and somehow walked into his world. He’s willing to change for her; for me.I got out of bed but couldn’t find Lucas anywhere in the room, not even in the bathroom.“Where is he?” I muttered.I quickly walked out to look for him. The Collector was gone now, which meant our biggest problem was finally over. But then I remembered Emma, how she sacrificed herself to save me. The memory hit me like a wave, and guilt filled my chest again. I would never stop feeling guilty for her death.I went downstairs, but Lucas still wasn’t there, not in the kitchen, not anywhere. Worry

The fields became smaller, and Emma's body started to glow as her own consciousness became entangled with the trap."Tell Daniel his theories were right," Emma said, her voice already fading. "Tell Lucas to stop blaming himself for Rachel. And Eva—""Don't. Don't you dare say goodbye.""Live. Live the life I never could. Love Lucas. Destroy your enemies. Be happy. That's all I ever wanted for us."The fields collapsed completely with a sound like thunder and silence combined.Emma's body fell to the ground, lifeless. The Collector was gone. The warehouse was quiet except for my sobbing and the distant sound of sirens approaching.Lucas held me while I cried. My father crawled over, freed from his restraints, and wrapped his arms around both of us. "I'm sorry, Eva. For everything. I should have protected you better.""You couldn't protect me from this," I said through tears. "No one could except Emma."The medics arrived, taking Daniel away on a stretcher. He gave me a weak thumbs up a

The Collector flooded into my mind like ice water, overwhelming and invasive, touching memories that weren't meant to be shared. But I'd prepared for this.During the car ride, while Emma drove and Daniel researched, I'd used a technique Emma described from timeline thirty-two—creating false mental corridors.I'd built fake memories, constructed emotional traps, anything to buy time. The Collector laughed inside my head. "Clever girl. False pathways. But I've seen this trick before.""Then you know it won't work," I thought back, letting my mental voice sound defeated."I know you're stalling. But for what? Your friends can't help you. The transfer is already halfway complete."Through my fading vision, I watched Emma pull something from her jacket—a second syringe, larger than the one Daniel gave me.She mouthed words I could barely understand: "Hold on."My father had regained consciousness, struggling against his restraints. "Eva, fight it! Don't let it take you!"Lucas was yelling

Lucas was already moving toward the door. "We need to leave. Now. If Doctor Chen knows we're here—"The lights went out.Emergency generators kicked in, bathing everything in red.And through the speakers came a distorted voice. "Did you really think I'd let you hide Richard Lancaster from me? I'm already here. And I brought friends."The door to my father's room exploded inward.Armed people in tactical gear flooded in, weapons raised.Lucas pushed me behind him, his gun drawn. "Emma, get Eva out of here.""I'm not leaving you," I said."Yes, you are. That's an order."Emma grabbed my arm and pulled me toward a side exit that Daniel was frantically trying to unlock.Behind us, I heard Lucas firing his gun, shouting orders to security. The door opened and we ran into a service corridor just as an explosion rocked the building."Lucas!" I screamed, trying to go back.Emma held me firmly. "He can handle himself. We need to get you somewhere safe.""Where? The Collector knows everywhere
