Chapter 3

Author: Nameless
My knitting skills had improved.

I'd unraveled the first rabbit and remade it into a bigger, cuter one.

But then, Joel sent me a video.

In it, Louise had just wrapped up a business deal at the manor in Leoni City. Holding a black umbrella, she walked past Paul.

Ever since he'd been blacklisted, he had nowhere to go.

He couldn't even make rent.

He was soaked to the skin, his purple shirt clinging to him and outlining every attractive curve.

Tears in his eyes, he gazed at her in the wind. "Louise..."

Paul's voice trembled.

Louise's steps faltered for a split second.

Then she walked right past him without looking back.

"Louise! Have you forgotten everything we had?"

No matter how many times Paul called out to her, Louise never turned around.

I let out a breath of relief.

Looked like she knew her place.

What I hadn't expected was how determined Paul was.

The rainstorm raged all night. And he stood outside her building all night… until he collapsed on the ground.

A black umbrella came into view on the screen.

Paul forced his eyes open and looked up at the person under it.

Louise was completely dry, her cold, pale face giving nothing away.

But that umbrella tilted gently toward Paul.

The next day, Louise flew back to Harland City as planned.

Only, she'd given the manor to Paul.

"Tiger, what do we do? Louise only ever spends money on her own man!"

I thought it over for a moment. "Since she sees me as her husband, I'll just have to handle this the way her husband would."

That same day, Paul was thrown out of the manor.

And that same day, Louise didn't come home.

It was the first time since our wedding that she'd missed one of our nights.

I called more than a dozen times. She didn't pick up.

The next day, she came home exhausted, her eyes bloodshot. "Did you have Paul kicked out?"

I didn't dodge the question. "Yes."

"Who said you could throw a tantrum like this?"

The accusation in her voice stunned me. I looked up. "So what you're saying is, as your husband, I'm supposed to put up with your ex-boyfriend living in our property?"

Louise didn't say anything. She just frowned and tossed me her phone with a video playing.

In the footage, a dozen men dragged Paul into an alley. Every one of his fingers had been broken, and his mouth was bloody from the beating.

Louise's voice shook. "If I hadn't gotten there in time, Paul would've thrown himself into the river by now!"

I watched the video coldly. "What do you want me to do?"

"Go to the hospital and apologize to Paul."

"Louise."

I pushed the phone back to her. "I'm not apologizing to a homewrecker."

"A homewrecker?"

She clearly hadn't expected me to use that word.

A mocking smile I'd never seen before tugged at her lips. "If we're being honest, aren't you the real homewrecker?"

My breath caught.

She ignored my shock, turned, and walked out.

For the first time, she slammed the door behind her.

I sat alone on the sofa until late into the night.

My phone kept buzzing with messages from friends.

[Tiger! What's going on? Louise's stopped doing business and is spending all her time at the hospital with another man?]

[They're saying he's Louise's first love. That's not true, is it?]

[Tiger, get to the hospital now! Your wife's about to become someone else's!]

I didn't answer any of them. Instead, I packed my bags and waited for Louise to come home three days later.

She took one look at my suitcase and gave a soft laugh. "What's this? Running away from home?"

I handed her the divorce agreement. "Let's get divorced. I don't want a payout."

The hand holding her teacup froze.

Her expression turned grave as she leafed through the agreement page by page.

Her hand was trembling slightly.

"If we divorce, who's going to give you all that money?"

"Thank you, Ms. Ackman, but I won't starve."

She paused. "Fine, we can divorce. But you'll have to pay back every cent I've spent on you."

I froze.

In five years as her stand-in, I'd spent a fair amount of the money I got.

Seeing me freeze, Louise's smile relaxed a little.

I looked at the woman in front of me and froze. "Louise..."It was just the two of us in the conference room.Louise looked at me, a sudden emotion I couldn't read welling up in her eyes. The next second, she threw her arms around me. Her lips crashed onto mine in a scorching kiss, as if feelings she'd held back for far too long had finally exploded.I shoved her away hard, but she clung to me and wouldn't let go.Her voice trembled. "I was wrong. Come back.""What are you talking about?"She held up the ring for me to see. "I love the ring. And Louise Ackman loves Tiger Ford, too."My breath caught.Wasn't that exactly what I'd engraved in initials inside the ring?"Stop wearing it. It's ugly."I didn't even want to look at it.But she smiled. "Nonsense. It's beautiful. I love it.""Louise, we're divorced."She didn't answer. She just took out a document."An asset transfer agreement?" I stared at her, wide-eyed.She nodded. "You said before that if I gave you two-thir

It seemed she'd only just noticed that detail. "Honey, is that true?"Her eyes shone with hope. But I laughed. "Tell you what. Give me two-thirds of everything you own, and I'll come back to you."The hope in her eyes dimmed. She lowered her head and gave a soft laugh. "I knew it. You're still the same man you always were. Whether you come back or not is up to you."With that, she turned and left.As far as Louise was concerned, I was bound to come back eventually. After all, I'd been in it for the money. Without her, who else would ever give me that kind of money? But I took Joel and left. She waited a long time, but I never came back. Unable to help herself, she returned to the flower shop. But the place was deserted. In the middle of a pile of rubble, a storage bag caught her eye.She opened it. Inside was an adorable rabbit, soft and plush, the kind that looked perfect for hugging in bed.A black-covered diary fell out. It was one of those old-school kinds with a combin

The floating restaurant on the bay that she'd only ever taken me to, and the VIP window table that had belonged to just the two of us, now belonged to her and Paul.On Valentine's Day, Louise bid at an auction and won Paul a watch worth millions of dollars, sending the story straight to the top of the trending lists.I'd already blocked both their names, but their sugary couple content still kept showing up in my feed. So I simply turned off my phone and focused on running the flower shop.Joel crouched beside me, chin propped in his hand. "Don't worry, man. That kind of thing never lasts."I laughed and spritzed him with water. "I don't give a damn whether it lasts!"Soon the flower shop was filled with our laughter.…Meanwhile, Louise had been staring down at her phone the whole time.I hadn't messaged her in a long time.During my years as her stand-in, I'd sent her good-morning and good-night texts every single day. Even if she didn't reply, I'd send a whole string of kis

Paul hadn't expected things to take this turn.Looking flustered, he tugged at the hem of Louise's jacket. "Louise, we never actually broke up back then, did we?"Louise seemed lost in thought. When she came back to herself, she gave me a complicated look.I clenched my fists. "Louise, back then, it was mutual between us, wasn't it?"She frowned.Slowly, she took the microphone. "Yes. Paul and I never broke up back then. It was all a misunderstanding. If we hadn't been reunited all these years later, I'd have stayed in the dark for the rest of my life."The entertainment reporters immediately sniffed out the "truth." "So what happened is, Tiger Ford took advantage of their fight to swoop in and kiss Louise Ackman, and Paul Brennan was so heartbroken he went and found another woman."Then Ms. Ackman saw that Paul had moved on, so she settled for Tiger?"Neither Paul nor Louise denied it.The reporters immediately swung their cameras toward me. "Bombshell scoop! He knew he was t

I stared in shock at the languid man strolling toward us in a purple casual suit. The spotlight didn't shine on me.It lit up the man in purple Saint Laurent instead. He was supposed to be overseas, yet a hint of a triumphant smile played on his face."Louise!" Joel slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet. "What the hell is this? Your husband is right here!"He shoved me toward the front of the stage.Louise's gaze swept past me.Her smile turned cold. "Do I really have to expose what you did in front of the press before you'll give up?""What are you talking about?"My voice shook as I looked at her.Paul's eyes went red at once.A flash of heartache crossed Louise's face. The next second, the big screen showed Paul in a northern country abroad, half-dressed, being beaten and even violated by a group of men."Tiger."Louise lowered her eyes to look at me. "I already sent him away like you asked. Why did you still have to destroy him?"The venue erupted at onc

Louise said, "It's fine if you can't pay it back. As long as we don't divorce...""Done," I replied. She blinked.Money had never made me feel secure. No matter how much came in, I never dared spend it freely.Even with nine figures in my account, whenever Louise wasn't home, I still lived on boxed mac and cheese with fries.Five years, hundreds of millions in income, and two million spent.I handed over my bank card, then patted myself down and took off the two-million-dollar watch. That covered exactly what I'd spent."I won this watch off Paul in a bet, so it's mine. Here. Now we're square."I took Louise's hand and set the watch in her palm. The instant I turned to leave, she tossed the watch aside and grabbed my hand. "Don't go! I don't really want you to pay me back!"The famously silver-tongued Ms. Ackman was actually at a loss for words."Louise, don't try to stop me..."I turned around impatiently, but the moment I saw her face, I fell silent.A tear splashed on
