LOGINAlong with Abria, Hailey emerged from the airport and surveyed their surroundings. Abria was holding her cellphone, scanning for the car number sent by the HR personnel.
"There," Abria pointed out when she spotted the car parked a short distance away. The HR had informed her that the company car would pick them up from the airport. They approached the car and settled inside.
"How long will it take to reach?" Abria asked the driver.
"About thirty minutes," the driver replied. Abria nodded and glanced at Hailey, who sat with her eyes closed. After around thirty minutes, they arrived at the underground parking of the Holt Group of Companies Head Office.
"Ma'am," Abria called softly, and Hailey opened her eyes and looked at her. "We've arrived." Hailey nodded and stepped out of the car. They stood in the parking lot. "Where do we go?" Abria asked the driver, who directed them towards the elevator.
The driver took them to the reception area. "We're here for a meeting," Abria informed the receptionist.
"Hailey Andreev?" the receptionist asked.
"Yes," Abria replied.
"This way, ma'am," the receptionist said, leading them to the meeting room.
"Sir will be here in a minute," the receptionist added.
"Thank you," Abria responded. Hailey remained quiet, observing her surroundings. They took their seats at the large conference table.
Moments later, the door opened, and two people entered. Hailey and Abria stood up to greet them. "Welcome, Miss Hailey, to the Holt Group of Companies. I'm Caleb Grant, the Managing Director of the company, and this is my P.A., Skylar," Caleb introduced himself, extending his hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Caleb. This is my P.A., Abria," Hailey replied, introducing Abria. Caleb nodded towards her with a smile and gestured for them to sit down.
"I hope your journey was comfortable and that you didn't encounter any inconvenience," Caleb said. Abria opened her mouth to respond, but Hailey cut her off.
"Why are we here? Why did you call this meeting? I know you don't even know about me or my company until my issue with Adam Steve came to light," Hailey blurted out bluntly. Abria and Skylar's eyes widened in shock, and they exchanged fearful glances before looking back at Caleb.
Caleb was momentarily taken aback by her directness but soon let out a chuckle, shaking his head slightly. "Blunt, aren't we?" Caleb said teasingly. Hailey remained silent, giving him a blank look.
"Miss Hailey, you know what?" Caleb continued, as Hailey, Abria, and Skylar looked at him curiously. "This is one of the major reasons you have a long list of enemies—perhaps even more than you have well-wishers," Caleb said. Abria couldn't help but agree, but she stayed silent.
Hailey shifted uncomfortably in her seat, and Caleb noticed her reaction. "I know everything regarding your issue with Adam Steve, and to be honest, it's commendable," Caleb said.
"You called me here to appreciate me?" Hailey asked, and Abria wanted to bang her head somewhere. She wondered when her boss would start thinking before speaking. Caleb chuckled at her response.
"As much as I want to do that, the real reason you're here is because you're the first woman to stand up to Adam Steve without any fear. And that's precisely why we're interested in you. Miss Hailey, Holt Companies is going to invest in your company, and in return, we'll own 15% of your shares," Caleb explained, handing her a file after taking it from Skylar.
Hailey was shocked to hear this, but she composed herself and took the file to read the documents. There was nothing suspicious in the papers. But why were they being so generous with her company? Only 15% shares and nothing else? No profit clauses, no CEO rights, nothing?
On the other side, Abria was silently thanking God that her boss would finally be safe, as she knew Adam Steve wouldn't leave her alone easily.
"Such simple papers from the MD of a company people think twice about even mentioning? It's hard to digest. And last but not the least, why the CEO of Holt Group of Companies not doing this meeting?" Hailey remarked, and Abria pondered on that for a moment.
"Believe it or not, Miss Hailey, but this is the truth. And regarding the CEO, then I'm also authorized by the CEO only that in his absence I can take the decisions." Caleb said. "So, will you sign the papers?" Caleb asked, handing her a pen. Hailey stared at his face and then at the pen in his hand. She looked at Abria, who was watching her with eagerness.
Hailey raised her hand and took the pen from Caleb. She knew she had no other choice but to sign the contract with Holt. She looked down at the papers and gripped the pen tightly. Suddenly, she hissed and dropped the pen.
"Ma'am," Abria said in a worried tone. Caleb and Skylar also gazed at her with concern.
"I'm fine," Hailey said, pressing her hand for a moment before picking the pen with her other hand and signing the document. Caleb gave her an amused look.
"Ambidextrous, impressive," Caleb muttered inaudibly and took the file Hailey passed him after signing.
"Miss Hailey, Miss Abria, our driver will take you to the airport, but please have lunch before you leave," Caleb instructed Skylar to order the chef to bring the food. Skylar nodded and used the intercom to contact the kitchen.
The food arrived, and all four of them began their lunch. Suddenly, while eating, Hailey started breathing heavily. Abria, who glanced at her randomly, was shocked to see her in distress.
"Shit, shit, shit, ma'am," Abria hurriedly got up, followed by Caleb and Skylar.
"What happened?" Caleb asked.
"Is there peanuts in any dish?" Abria asked in panic while trying to calm Hailey down.
"Skylar?" Caleb asked.
"Sir, one dish contains peanut butter," Skylar replied worriedly.
"Ma'am is allergic to peanuts. I don't know how I forgot to check," Abria exclaimed, rummaging through her bag for Hailey's medicine.
"I'm calling the doctor," Caleb said, pulling out his cellphone. Skylar wiped the sweat from Hailey's forehead. Hailey was struggling to breathe; it was getting increasingly difficult. Suddenly, she stood up but stumbled.
"Ma'am," Abria exclaimed, and before Hailey could lose her balance, Abria and Skylar caught her just in time. However, their expressions turned horrified as Hailey fell unconscious.
To be continued...
"I can't believe this, that you are alive," Hailey exclaimed and broke the hug. She cupped his face with both hands. "I...I thought you had done something to yourself. You didn't say anything, just left. Nobody in the hospital knew where you went. I thought maybe your surgery wasn't successful and you got disheartened," she said in a low tone, tears welling up in her eyes again.Cassian softly wiped her tears. "I was broken after knowing about the cancer. But I wasn't weak enough to kill myself. I just did whatever came to mind, at that time," Cassian replied."Now, you're fine? I mean, your cancer?" Hailey asked in a concerned tone. She knew he had told her, but she wanted to confirm."Yes, I've been cancer-free for the last three years. But tell me, what were you doing in Bristol?" Cassian asked.Hailey stiffened on hearing this but composed herself and removed her hands from his face. "Many things had already changed in my life, but the day you left, everything changed," Hailey sai
The driver dropped Hailey off at Caleb's home. A maid escorted her to the same room she had stayed in before. Just as she settled in, her phone buzzed with a message from Cassian: "Take rest, I want you to look fresh tonight."Hailey chuckled, replying, "Yes boss," with a salute emoji. She took a deep breath and decided to rest for a while. When she woke up, she noticed several bags placed near the bed. Curious, she opened them and found a stunning red dress along with matching accessories.Inside the dress bag was a note that read, "Red is a common color, but it matches my Rose's color, so wear this one tonight." Hailey smiled, feeling her heart flutter at Cassian's thoughtful gesture. She began to prepare herself for the evening. She started with a relaxing shower, allowing the warm water to wash away any lingering fatigue. After drying off, she applied a light layer of moisturizer to her skin, enjoying the refreshing scent it left behind.Next, she focused on her makeup. Although s
Hailey exclaimed with a frustrated tone, "You are still calling me from a private number," as she paced in her office. It had been around ten days since Cassian and Caleb had visited. They had spent the weekend with her before returning to work. Before leaving, Cassian had appointed guards for her, which she knew was pointless to refuse, so she didn't protest. But Cassian regularly called her, always from a private number. Many times she had asked him to message her from his number so she could call or message him back. "I don't want you to block me if you get angry," came Cassian's teasing voice from the other side."You are texting me from your number or not?" Hailey demanded sternly. "Okay, okay, I'm doing it. To be honest, I forgot to call from my number. Look, you have got a message," Cassian replied. Hailey pulled the cell phone from her ear and found a message from his number."Wow, golden number," Hailey murmured, and Cassian chuckled on hearing this. "Okay Rose, I've called y
"What was that?" Cassian asked with a death glare."My tongue slipped," Caleb replied with a sheepish grin. "But hey, it's not like you both will not be having any babies, in the future," he tried to defend himself."We're not getting married today or tomorrow, so hold your horses," Cassian exclaimed through gritted teeth."Okay, fine, but jokes apart, I'm happy for you," Caleb said, patting Cassian's shoulder.Cassian looked at him with a raised eyebrow and then, with an air of attitude, replied, "I know, tell me something new.""I'm not that happy," Caleb shot back instantly."Liar," Cass retorted."As if you're not?" Caleb quipped."No," Cassian insisted."You are so full of yourself," Caleb replied, narrowing his eyes."As if you're not?" Cassian countered."Not more than you," Caleb fired back."Not less than me either," Cassian shot back with a smirk."Admit it, you're just jealous because my jokes are better," Caleb teased."Jealous? Of what? Your terrible sense of humor?" Cass
Cassian and Hailey were sitting on the couch in the hall. He sat upright, while Hailey was leaning against his side comfortably, with Cassian's arm wrapped around her. She was engrossed in a book while Cassian was checking his emails."Wow," Caleb exclaimed as he entered the room. But both ignored him and kept focusing on their previous tasks."So, what are you reading?" Caleb asked while jumping onto the other couch. Hailey eyed him and then turned her focus back to the book."101 Ways of Killing Caleb Grant for Lying to Me," Hailey said dryly. Cassian started chuckling on hearing this.Suddenly, she sat up straight on the sofa. "How dare you lie to me?" Hailey asked, her eyes flashing with a murderous look. Caleb rolled his eyes."How could I possibly deny my boss's orders?" Caleb replied in a duh tone. Hailey gave him a narrow look, while Cassian pulled her back into his arms, wrapping his arm around her.Hailey suddenly sat up again and, with a stern look at both of them, demanded
Morning:Cassian's sleep broke when he felt Hailey stirring beside him. He opened his eyes to find her trying to hide her face against his chest, as sunlight streamed through the gap in the curtains and fell onto her face.He glanced around and spotted the curtain remote on the side table beside Hailey. He shifted carefully to reach for it, his movements causing Hailey to frown but not wake. She instinctively rubbed her face against his chest, her cheek brushing against the fabric of his vest.Cassian grabbed the remote and closed the curtains, plunging the room into a soft, comfortable darkness. He settled back down and, sensing her continued discomfort, gently pulled her fully onto him. As he did so, he pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head, his lips lingering for a moment longer than necessary.Hailey stirred slightly but kept her head resting on his chest. "Sleep," Cassian murmured, his voice a low, soothing command. He wrapped his arms around her more securely, his warmth en
